i really dont think leachers will be that big of a problem. i mean it will get annoying but hey diablos a co op game. make some friends and just run with them. i play old school style diablo i like to go threw and search everything. u never know when u click a dead body and a unique ring is gona drop. alot of people just like to run threw stuff and go straight to the boss. thats cool with me u go right on ahead. ill take the accept button once u get their.
Playing with friends only doesn't solve the leech problem. Sure they are actually going to kill mobs but they are less helpful than non-MF and they are getting better gear. If they aren't distributing MF/GF across the group as an average then they haven't fixed the leeching issues unless you count having to inspect everyone (including your friends) prior to starting (which, of course, doesn't stop someone from swapping gear as soon as you're inside).
I think your definition of leaching is differing from what most of us have been talking about.
We've been talking about people that don't do anything and just stand in radius of XP/loot. Playing with friends does indeed solve that.
I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to. MF leaching? Everyone's MF is applied separately, so it's not like someone can have 0 MF and then "leach" MF off of someone that stacked it by grouping with them.
Like I said early, just have the game keep track of spells/skills cast and damage/healing done. A simply algorithm putting those together should be sufficient to determine whether someone is doing nothing or "something".
All they have to do to fix this problem is average out MF/GF amongst the group. Then leeching simply doesnt exist.
It doesnt feel right, MF was soppose to sacrifice damage and speed of killing shit in the exchange of better drops, the idea of getting loot even if not killing shit its totally wrong.
Of course it feels right...thats the whole point of group play, to work as a team.
In any mmo,
Tanks sacrifice dmg for survivability.
Healers sacrifice dmg to keep others alive.
Dps sacrifice survivability to do dmg.
Just because you sacrifice dmg doesnt automatically mean you arent part of a team.

Actually we are talking about MF leeching.
MF leeching is wearing very high MF/GF, to the point your ability to kill is almost nil, which in turn drastically increasing your chances of getting loot/gold while not contributing much if anything to the group itself. Essentially you get all the loot, while the other members of the group do all the work.
Its stupidly easy to notice and boot someone standing around doing nothing... Also there is no follow option in D3, so they would have to intentionally walk behind you and intentionally not kill things. Almost no one would bother doing that, thus its a non-issue. So idk who considers this an issue as it makes absolutely no sense at all.

I don't think leechers will be a problem but people maxing out their MF and joining games fighting but not doing a lot of dps will be. Can't say they are leeching when they are fighting like you are - just they are purposely bringing less to the team by focusing on themselves. I am positive you will see a lot of that happening because of the AH, which = greed.
