From my point of view that Magic Find stat should be removed. People should not have to stack irrelevant from action-game-play stats and feel less powerful as they would investing in different stat just to be able to grow their chances to find some rare item from 1:1000000 to 1:100000. If this stat is added it should have a separate placeholder just for it so there is no other stat which could change its place. This way it would be nice to have stat and make us feel lucky but it wouldn't make us say ohh, MF is good, sure, but it would be probably better if I rolled strength instead MF, or better why blizzard couldn't give us both, buuu.
Unfortunately that's off topic to the OP's request. I wish I could respond but I am not in beta so my MF is 0%.
But to counter your argument, MF is a strategic choice. If you're killing monsters in one shot with a specific ability, it does not help you any more to stack offensive stats. If you instead lower your offensive stats to the breaking point of 1 shotting monsters and increase your MF instead, you keep the same killing speed but now find more/better items. I'm willing to bet I'll end up with a very balanced mix of stats in Inferno, MF, GF, and all stats. Gotta have survivability.
Maybe not remove it but I would just like to have a separate stat placeholder just for it in which nothing else could roll. Basically every item could have magic find in it and this way I wouldn't have to feel bad that I have sacrificed firepower which I may need for PvP for magic find which I don't need in PvP. It kinds of makes you wish you need to sets of armor, one for grinding and one for pve/pvp.
An interresting notion to ask Blizzard is how it would work in diablo 3.
Seeing how loot is now specific to a person, what would happen in a teamfight?
Say 3 person take down Azmodan. The first two don't have any magic find at all, while the last has +200% magic find.
Azmodan dies and drops his loot. Will only the loot of the person with the MF be better, or will the loot of the others be better aswell, because they had one with them that had the MF.
Imo it would make sense now that loot is split up that only the guy with the MF would get better (chance of) loot than the others. But I would be interrested in knowing if this is the case.
if they removed MC.. I would think about not getting the game =P
Also, MF does not replace main stats (like in d2), so that whole argument is a little off =) (check some of the old interviews) Though, with the stat changes I guess that could have changed, but I doubt it.
I had around 80 or so before, but I wasnt mainly searching for MF gear, just random stuff and have not had much time to play since the character wipe =(
I'm at like 60% on my witch doctor, with a 33% gold find. I feel like, in the beta at least, gold find is a bit more valuable than magic find. Get enough gold and you can just buy blues at the vendor. Since your best gear is crafted gear unless you happen to pull a yellow drop, hoarding blues isn't very efficient.
this way I wouldn't have to feel bad that I have sacrificed firepower which I may need for PvP for magic find which I don't need in PvP.
Keep separate pvp armor?
edit: Oh and to op i currently have very little MF... i like to have it though and will use it often after release to farm gear.
You say you will be running around farming in your great MF blue/rare armor while your legendary armor will be in your stash as you cannot wear it because it does not have a lot of MF which would make it difficult for you to find legendary shoes you still doesn't have. Not very entertaining.
In the beta at least, i craft items until I get the max % Magic Find stat on it. In fact all my slots have items with % Magic find. In a game where loot is everything, this is the single most powerful stat. You are kind of forced to stack it, which is my problem with it.
Yes, you can say you have the choice and just don't bother with it if you don't like it, but that's a silly argument. The whole entire focus of the game is farming mobs for a chance at good items, and a stat that increases the rate at which these items drop forces you to stack it if you want to be efficent in the entire point of the game.
I wish they would have been more clever in fixing the Magic Find issue from D2 but right now (in beta, and i doubt any different in release) it's the stat I value over anything else.
I'm at 100% right now. In previous patches I had around 108% (I think?), but I'm not sure with the gear changes how high it can go now. I did find a +8% MF ring this patch though, before the highest I had seen was 7% on a ring (but looking at Cherub's pictures I see there's a 10% one :o).
@CherubDown Damn, nice amulet! I haven't been fortunate enough to find one yet.

*Goes to check MF atm* Mine is at 94 atm, with the follower it's at 97.
I guess this is a good opportunity to show off some of my E-Peen :D. Before patch 10, I was up to 114:
