I don't really see how another typical redesign will help. If they haven't figured the basics out by now, they either need to just take one last overhaul into consideration or just ship already. Too much time has been wasted. I hope a lot of people are fired after this game's release tbh.
To be clear, I hope they get fired, not because I'm an angry fan, but because I believe some employees deserve to be fired after climbing through a money tree for several years while not doing their jobs in a timely manner.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
What vastness of what changes? Nothing's even changed at all. A couple of stat changes? Whoop de doo. That should've been dealt with last year, not in January of 2012.
As for pretending Bashiok is saying anything other than, "I'm not saying the games close to release." is just wishful and naive thinking.
The entire item system is based around the stats of the classes, since they are now changing them, all the unique items have to change inherently and so do all of the random stat attribution algorithms. Also the skill system is changing to so they have to make all the new changes sync together.
In my opinion the stats system was fine in 2008 I think they had a similar system to D2. When they introduced the attack as the main damage attribute it seemed pretty obvious that if magical, ranged and physical melee damage is all benefited from the same stat the itemisation will be boring. I don't why they couldn't think about that while brain storming, etc.
Dexterity should benefit ranged damage, Strength Melee, Intellect magical damage. Not class specific and also not pigeon holing, because D2 was all about gear choices within different methods. Ranged barb, spear Amazon, Enchanted Sorc etc all viable to some extent. But it seems like they are now pigeon holing gear to classes (For example the demon hunter's dex somehow effects it's melee now?) which is not what D2 was about.
Also the skill system needs to allow players to feel some enjoyment at level ups, this is even more vital because of the removed stat allocation. I personally think you should be able to somewhat influnce stat changes in a more broad way, say one choice of geting a bit more vit at each level or strength etc. The skill system needs to allow level by level progression with increases in energy usage and damage(It would be cool also to see a progressive increase in visual effect for example larger energy blasts for high level skill usage.)
I also think the different rune effects of the skills would be alot more intersting with specific skill improvements in a skill tree etc. And most important of all they seem to have forgotten entirely about the end game level up progression which was through getting more + to all skills. That was the end game, with the current model there is no end game item progression, at least not one people will enjoy as much as it was when you knew every one of your skills got a bit better with better gear.

This part I kinda agree with. Str for melee, Dex for range, and Int for magic would make a lot of sense. However, there isn't any quick weapon swapping, plus barbs have no range skills, and DH no melee. So, I think people will stick with their intended weaponry, except for the really, really odd builds.
But it seems like they are now pigeon holing gear to classes (For example the demon hunter's dex somehow effects it's melee now?) which is not what D2 was about.
This part I don't agree with. Like I've said, and Bashiok have said, armor and dodge will be sought after by all classes, so while each class has a preferred attribute, they will definitely not be ignoring the others.
And haven't you seen fighters use finesse. A melee weapon doesn't always mean you bash a person until he doesn't move; some fighters used grace and speed to kill people. Likewise, ranged weapons aren't always about grace, especially if thrown weapons will make a return. There are also some types of bows that allows for greater strength to give a greater pull. I think this is what Blizz is going for; barbs are machines of all out fury, while DH and monks fight with agility.
