Diablo 3 has been in development for some 6-7+ years. To make a 2D environmental game and have it take this long is just ridiculous. The team behind this game has to be extremely small.
Bethesta's team of 100 or so people made The elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 3 years. Less than half of the time d3 has been in production. They developed an entire new revolutionary engine and and a massive game all in this time. Skyrim's content and environment detail is downright amazing. I can almost guarantee it's content and amount of quests will dwarf that of diablo's. And its a 3D environment, unlike diablo. Sure d3 has 3D character abilities and other things, at its core it's still a 2D game. If i had to guess how long it took Bethesta to make that game, I would have guessed 6 years or more. But it didn't.
Another thing people say is that Diablo is an online game. Do you think it really takes an extra 3-4 years to produce online hardware? No.
This leaves no question about it. Diablo's team must be extremely small or they're just extremely lazy which most likely isn't true. A game like this should in no way take 6-7+ years to make. It's just ridiculous.
Wasn't the only change made when blizzard north disbanded back in 2005? I know that version was scrapped and they got right back to work on the version we know of now. If this is correct that still would be 6-7 years of production.
yes, but we were never told if it was righth away or not... on top of this, they are already redoing rune system, skill system...ect theres no telling what they have totaly scrapped.
The point I guess im trying to make is, the time they have been in dev... can not tell us how many people are on the team... HOWEVER... I just remembered something... 1 second.

Good find. Where did you find that? According to that it looks like a pretty good size team. I agree it has to be the reiteration of major systems that has delayed it for so long. That could be due to inexperience on the team
then why arent you on a skrym fans forum? (flame off) as the days pass the more threads pop up complaining about how its taking too long and such. which i agree it definitely is.
but
were ALL upset its taking this long. your not even close to alone, your one of millions. but posting threads bitching about it isnt the answer man. find other games to occupy your time or get another hobby (i definitely had to). ive been going nuts surfing this forum posting tons of stuff everyday and its only made my feeling for D3 worse.

All the 3D artists working on D3 will be surprised when it comes out missing a dimension.... wait.. hold on guys, wait that's what's causing the delay. The lazy understaffed 3D artists LOST A DIMENSION! I mean, it's an entire fucking dimension, who DOES that???
Obviously nobody knows how many people are working on D3, your post is a thinly veiled whine. So I will dispense of this conversation with one final thought, because after all, it's the primaries: BYAAAAHHHH!!!!!
You know that Skyrim doesn't huge amount of the best quality cinematics in gaming industry right?
The fact that I can play Skyrim for well over 300 hours constantly experiencing new content I've never seen and be constantly immersed in extremely well written quests makes this irrelevant. Don't get me wrong good cinematics are nice, and I especially love the D2 ones(I personally thought the d3 opener was extremely stupid and didnt compare to d2's) but while playing Skyrim, there is so much content you just simply don't worry about the lack of cinematics.

While you're enjoying all of this amazing "content" (lol, fetch quests) you never stop to realize that you are just repeating the same exact environments, textures, enemies and weapons throughout the whole game? That's the difference.
In Diablo 3 I guarantee you will see varied, diverse landscapes and there will be hundreds and hundreds of items. Skyrim might have Diablo beat in the random story generated content but that's the ONLY thing it can claim.
The D3 dev team is redesigning everything in the game to see which one is best...they may have 3 or 4 versions of the rune-system, but after the 4th one they might say: "Hey, our first one is the best, lets stick with that." The problem with that is it obviously takes an immense amount of time...which is bad of course, but the game will be out soon enough.
The difference between D3 and Skyrim is that Skyrim is one big map, probably, well lets say 10 times bigger than D3. The upside to this is there's a gazillion places to go and a gazillion quests to do ect, but once you've gone through the whole map, it's done. You may have taken 150 hours, but your done. If you create a new character and start playing, you'll see nothing new, except the random dragons popping up.
With D3, each playthrough will be different, randomized and have unexpected excitement. It may be smaller than Skyrim, but with D3, you'll invest much more hours in the game with a new experience each time.
Skyrim is entirely content driven. It has fewer engine systems than Diablo 3, and they also suck horribly (interface menu on PC, lolloololololooll).
Bethesda can throw 100 people at it because they're each designing different SCRIPTED content. None of those hundreds of people were actual engine developers.
A more accurate comparison for content development time between companies would be Skyrim and WoW's raid release schedule (which is damn fast).
Also, nobody is going to be playing Skyrim in 10 years from now. It has little staying power and will be overthrown with the next game in the series.

The "content" I'm referring to is the 120+ different unique dungeons in the game. The enemy variation may lack but the environment variation is very good in my opinion. Other than the dungeons there are tons of different environments. I was just expecting everything to be snow covered but that wasn't the case. I agree also the item number and number of unique items will dwarf that of Skyrim's, but you cant say the environment variation is lacking. That's just not the case.
Do you want a shitty game, because I have a few suggestions starting with COD, it's also an inadequate comparison between Diablo 3 (Made by Blizzard Entertainment) and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Made by Bethesda Software) Wow what do you know two different companies! Now that any one who has read this has figured that out you will realize to state the development of Diablo 3 as slow you would need to have two different teams working on the same game to measure the motivation and quality of the game. Also Skyrim has a much smaller world, they didn't build the graphics engine from the ground up, it's buggy, and the menu system sucks (when playing on a PC) Think about this would you rather have a smaller raw diamond (yellow and unpolished) or a nice shinny polished and cut diamond? Now apply that to the context.
And I didn't even get started on the RMAH or online.
You guys are really trying to do a Skyrim vs Diablo 3 contest ? Even though I will probably enjoy Diablo 3 more, Skyrim is definetly a good game, but comparing them is like comparing a Hockey video game to a Soccer video game... both are team sports and share some mechanics but that's it.
Compared to the rest of the gaming industry, you'd probably be surprised by how small the Diablo III development team is. And the reason it's relatively small is because we do want it to be a family of highly talented individuals who have a certain synergy to challenge one another -- developers who know what they like and don't like, but at the end of the day can come together and agree on a design vision. - The Answer.
