so I called UPS only to be told now that it won't be delivered today and possibly not tomorrow. Really? So I wait an extra week and now have to wait another extra week. Seems like no one is doing things properly around this book. Mind you, I took the day off to wait for my package.

I suppose delivery firms have a rough time around Christmas time but it sucks to take a day off and then nothing arrives. At least you know it's coming sometime soon ;).
Further research has led to me discovering that, despite me PAYING for two day shipping, Amazon shipped it ground, which means I may have to wait up to another WEEK because of this. The rep's response to me questioning this was to say "Amazon won't consider it late until the 21st and even then, we do not consider it our issue." So. Not amused.
When speaking to customer support it's always kind of a lottery..
Sometimes you just get that rotten egg who just doesn't get their job at all and seems to go out of her/his way just to make things annoying for the customer.
I do understand that of course shipping issues would likely be on the end of UPS since they are the ones handling it, but if you got the wrong shipping then there is something wrong in the communication either from Amazon->Amazon shipping department or Amazon shipping->UPS which very much would be Amazon's problem imho.
Try calling/mailing again and see if you get a better answer..
Long story short, they confirmed I ordered it two-day, they confirmed that they shipped it ground instead, then asked me "What do you want me to do? You want a five dollar promo coupon for amazon?". Of course I told them no. Don't need any more of those. After that, they said "We can ship one out with one-day delivery and you'll get it on the 21st" "No, I'd rather not, since I convinced UPS to move delivery up to tomorrow", finally, they agreed to give me a shipping refund and a partial refund on the book, while not canceling the order, so we'll see how it goes. Makes you wonder if they do it often and people just don't catch it.

We order about... at least 2-5 things from amazon each week, never once had an issue with shipping, in fact, regarding the book of cain, it seems like the UP'ed everyones shipping for free...so this is just an odd one for you...

Received my book yesterday as well. Read thru the first 70 pages or so in my first sitting, so I had to stop. Book is a real work of art ... everything from the pages to the cover. Its amazing. Im really glad I was able to get it ...
To update: Even though Amazon said (even yesterday) that my book wouldn't ship until January 10th, I got an email saying that it has shipped out late last night. This is from Amazon.ca. : D
I'm hoping for the same luck.. I ordered mine the 13th from amazon.co.uk and it still says
