"Here's a video showing Diablo 3 with a darker color scheme. It works as a direct3d post processing filter, making the game look sharper, have less saturation, add a slight bit of a (silver) sepia tone, slightly lowered exposure, slightly raised gamma."
I like the increased sharpness, but not the colour changes. Little bit too washed out for my liking.
Me too, the UI looks dull with the filter altso.
I like the original best, but its nice that moody people can get what they want now and since you can modify it if you know programming, we might see unicorn levels right at the start!
not bad at all...i think it looks good mostly in outdoor environment... but i will stick with the original version of Blizz. at least for the first couple playthoughs....
maybe later in time i would try something like this for difference...(if its allowed something like this of course, and its undetected)
Since its a DLL file on your computer, he says its undetected. I dont know if this counts as a mod.

I wouldn't count on it being undetected. If it offers absolutely zero gameplay advantage blizzard may let it slide, but Warden(blizzards security service that comes with all their games) can be quite agressive when they want it to. I'd leave well enough alone.
Damn! I like this. It certainly seems like it would bring back that uneasy feeling of not knowing what's around the corner. I doubt I would add this to my files folder as I'm sure I'll be able to adjust the settings in game to my liking. This is right on par with what I wanted originally.

The blind mind's eye replies with a sigh and a tear of contempt for those who see the world as it truly is.
To those that play Diablo 3s beta, some areas feel very gloomy, haunted and dark. Adding monsters taunting you and leaving trails of alot of blood make Diablo 3 vary from colorful to less colorful.
And I need to know if this is gonna be somthing that Blizzard thinks OK, its not a MOD but probably count as a MOD once D3 is released. I dunno.
I need facts, so if anyone can point me to a direction now or later on (next year, whatever) please do so about these kind of "tweeks".
I wouldn't mind having a small light radius, but I don't like anything else it adds color/visual wise. The darkness is good and looking at it more maybe a little sharpness is nice, but everything else I think looks worse.
For all you guys who do not like that.
This post is for People who were disappointed in colors.
No one force you to use this, you don't have to discriminate an author.
Second it is not a mod. For example I can do same changes by
my monitor where I can add blur sharpens etc. and color temperature etc.
and get what I like. Or in my video card not a big deal.
But again, some one put effort in this, respect that.
It is interesting. I would like to check this. If I could ofc :-)
Wuuuuuuuuuuuuut? It's called discussion.
While I do like the filter, I think players that are yearning for effects like this completely miss their mark by not knowing what they are asking for blizzard to do. Players looking for a darker feel to D3 should be requesting a lighting system that has a lot more contrast, along with the player(s) and their followers to be independent lighting sources.
D1 has its own gothic feel, because of light sources and vision restrictions. Now, if you aren't looking for that in particular, then this filter might help give you more of a D2 feel, but it will make the ui look dull.
Man, I hate to really say this, but I honestly feel like this series just looks better in 2D. I know this sounds random, but I don't know. lol. WoW has really tainted how Blizzard handles 3D modeling, imo.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!

Path of Exile looks very "Diablo", and just about all of Diablo was prerendered 3D converted to sprites.
It's not really a 3D thing; as mentioned, it's a WoW thing.
I might use this after the first couple play throughs! If I like it on a full playthrough then perhaps I'll keep it if not well either way its win win

Sure if you dont get banned for "false-modding" your D3. Its unknown if Blizzard will ban people with this. However in the Beta they couldnt care less.
I'll definitely be going for a similar look as far as video options allow. I like the sharpness and I'm one of those people that are nostalgic for the creepiness of the original game. I suppose quite a bit of that were system limitations or design faults. Like your character being hidden behind walls and such but it did give the game a certain horror movie quality where that which you can't see is often scarier.
Remember hearing the twang of a bow and frantically looking with the mouse for the red outline of an archer.
Wonder how the soundtrack is. Fucking screaming baby in the catacombs of the original used to scare the hell out of me.
This is NOT my video

Looks simple enough, adding a DLL file to those that complain about the D3 graphics.
Edit: Oh yeah, and there is an on/off button.

TBH I don't like the gothic look, its silly and stupid, I do however love the sharpness and clarity it provides to the game.
As JW said, with the engine they are using they couldn't do a player "light radius". Plus we've only seen 1/3 of the first act of a 4 act game -_-...
Hoping Blizzard adds that sharpness and clarity to the game cause atm it does look blurry / washed out.
