All the wizard skills, I am assuming the WD skills too, have been nerfed to oblivion. That is with the exception of the plethora of trash battlemage skills.
If this is the way the game launches, they might as well delete the wizard, and rename it the battlemage.
Jay has a hardon for melee wizards, so apparently we are going to get it jammed down out throats.

AoE (Area of Effect) skills for all classes have had their damage reduced
Again.
Single-target skills for all classes have had their damage increased
The only thing the wizard has is AoE, with the exception of Magic Missile and RoF are the only single target spells we got. And as far as I can tell, they were nerfed as well.

Don't you think that a rune letting you do triple damage is a teeeeeeny bit much?
Ok the patch notes were a bit off with regards to wizards but 700%/s cmon it outclasses the other runes by far too much even if you only consider for that spell.
That is because you do not understand how it works.
It increase to that dmg slowly over time, and only reaches full power at 1.5 seconds. Chances are you will have to move shortly after it reaches full power. Even if you could continue to stand there you are still limited by your Arcane power.
And if it was just this one skill, your point might be valid, but its basically every ranged skill the wizard has.

Note:
1. They are still balancing things out, so don't jump to conclusions.
2. All AoE spells/abilities were hit, not just those of the Wizard.
3. Wizard still has highest damage cap among the 5 classes.
One more thing, skill calculator and item database are currently being updated.
1) True, but this current build looks grim...thats all I am saying. There is no wizard in Beta 5, just the battlemage.
2) AoE is the only thing they gave the wizard.
3) What does that mean?

I understand fully well how it works, how could I not. But if you think that a 1.5 second ramp up time justifies being able to nuke that hard then...well...
Whatever, your point is moot and irrelevant. That is only one skill.

A lot of items give additional damage % to Wizards. Because of this, even with the nerfing of AoE spells, Wizards are still capable of doing the most damage, compared to any other class.
I thought they were going to remove that attribute.

And yours is infinitely more worthwhile because it mentions 2 spells? behave. The skills system is supposed to be about choice, crimson ray of frost was not a choice.
If you want to make a thread about crimson RoF, go ahead.
That is not the discussion here....

I'm not sure, atm my Spec Blade hits about the same as my electrocute... I did find a 24.5 dps wand that is usable at lvl 2 lol!!!
My Char sheet says i'm doing about 103 dps... I can kill alot of things with my spells in 4 player games within a few casts... if I can do that solo gameplay will be easy...
Remember folks its ALL about the LOOT!!!
My chars were sucky until I got some decent gear on them and now they smash face.
EDIT: Also the Skill Calculators and Item DB are taken from blizzards INTERNAL server and not the Beta server.....<--- READ THAT, a Blue post has said Beta patch 5 is already a few weeks old.
Heck, I would consider some of those Rank4s downgrades. And by some, I mean everything except Lightning Hydra, which is only a 6% dmg increase, ROFL!!!
I would be scared what a Rank 1 would look like,

And one of your complaints was at the massive reduction to crimson ray..so you kind of already made it about that. I'm just saying that "nerf" (wasn't even in the game before hand) was totally justified.
That was not a complaint, that was an example....
The crimson rune isnt even worth taking now...Even IF you can just stand and fire, and that is a big IF you are only looking at like an 350% wpn dm on average.
Heck a lot of the ranged wizard skills are like that now, in fact some of the skills dmg are so low that it almost seems pointless to even put runes in them....
Heck, I would consider some of those Rank4s downgrades. And by some, I mean everything except Lightning Hydra, which is only a 6% dmg increase, ROFL!!!
And this is Rank4 FFS, I would be scared what a Rank 1 would look like!!!
And what might be even scarier is the unattuned rune system picks your skill at random. So there exists a good probability to actually DOWNGRADE the skill you want to upgrade.

I haven't had a chance to play through fully with the Wizard since the latest patch (But the above poster who mentions it being all gear based is definitely correct!) - but so far, Wizard feels similar to how it used to play, though certainly not as ridiculous. In the previous build, you basically could one-shot almost any normal mobs, and ruin huge groups with no effort. You still do great damage, but it feels much better between various classes.. I certainly have no problems staying at range. Ridiculous statement is ridiculous.
As a side note, the new DH is way, way more fun than it used to be, though the first few levels are still a bit sparse... but then, Amazon was the same way.
You need to understand. The absolute numbers are meaningless. What counts is the dps of all stacked abilites. The Wizard has some spoon bending Arcane Regen my friends, look at her passives. In addition, for skills such as Hydra it all comes down to how fast they attack and what the splash radius is.
What the deal with Energy Twister I am still uncertain, however. Haven't found a use for it. Low damage and random doesn't seem to work too well.
Another thing. In Hell and Inferno, I can almost garantee that nobody will get away with a zero-defensive builds. Fortunately many defensive abilities come with synergies that increase overall damage in addition to providing a substantial survivability boost, which is surely needed past Nightmare.

Jay has a hardon for melee wizards, so apparently we are going to get it jammed down out throats.
Okay, Jay doesn't make all the decisions that goes into the game, you know.
And why call it a battlemage, that makes no sense at all.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this but...
1. The wizard was already very overpowered, so I'd say this is part of the testing phase.
2. The game is still going through beta testing, which means sweeping changes are to be expected.
3. Wands will come with bonuses to wizard spell damage, and wands will cast at increased cast speed.
4. Orbs will have damage bonuses as well.
5. Spells that increased by level were dwarfed by spells that worked off weapons damage. So, in effect, wizards received a large boost.
Basically, they are not trying to cater for wizard melee primarily, and I'm thinking that if you try to hit enemies with a melee weapon as a caster will get you killed, especially in hell and inferno. Melee wizards seemed so-so, and I think they've just made them more viable.
You can't complain about nerfs unless you've played the new build. I can say that while things look like they were nerfed for the wizard, with the change to weapon damage my patch 5 Wizard is doing about 20dps more than my patch 4 Wizard (who had almost all crafted gear and was 2 levels higher).
Edit: Still using a Wand as well. Had a shortsword equipped for a while until I found a wand that compared to the sword's dps.
Its sad that there is no good Signature spell left. When we get actually good Single target spells like Ray of Frost with Golden runestone, nobody will bother with any Signature spell (unless you "melee wizard" :hehe:).
Electrocute was broken, but now it's crap because it's not overpowered anymore? Right...
It's still the same awesome spell, only difference is the tooltip, instead of being 5-8 damage its now 40% weapon damage. But it's still the same spell, just not insane numbers anymore. If broken constitutes as good, then you're going to become more disappointed throughout the beta phase.
Anyway, Magic Missile is still a great spell, especially when runed, and shock pulse is basically a free charged bolt. They are supposed to be the starter, initiation spells. Don't know how you expect them to be the super awesome spells, when the later level ones are supposed to fill that role.
Wizard overpowered patch 4 = good.
Wizard balanced now patch 5 = omg they suck now
Loving the logic here. The BETA is just that, a BETA. If any one class is too much, stronger(ex:killing everything easier and faster than other classes) or weaker, they will continue to nerf or buff till release. Just because the Wizard isn't miles ahead of everyone anymore, doesn't make them crappy to use. If anything this will make more diversed wizard builds, Speed Casting vs Damage Cannon. Not to mention unorthodox melee or slow 1-hander with shields. They may or may not be buffing certain spells in the future, if they aren't already. It's still way too early to tell people don't start freaking out so soon.

I thought this too when I first glanced at the numbers, but after reading the full rune descriptions I see why the percentages drop. The base fire hydra does the most direct damage, but the runes modify it so the hydras do different types of damage. Check it out:
Fire hydra - 35% direct damage
Arcane hydra - 28% splash damage
Frost hydra - 32% damage, shorter range, but it's frost damage so it slows everything
Firewall hydra - 18% damage as a firewall
Lightning hydra - 41% lightning damage
Poison hydra - 23% poison damage per second for enemies that step in the acid pool
So all in all, it should even out.

Was 715% wpn dmg, the rune now only adds +100% dmg.
Crimson Arcane Torrent
Now adds 31% Arcane dmg, was 70%, i think.
Wave of Force
Was 150% dmg, now 205% wpn dmg.
Crimson Teleport
TP blast wave now hits for 210% wpn dmg
Spectral blade
At 30% dmg, only nerfed 5%.
