Well I've been playing the Beta for quite a while now (since monday to be exact) and I've done TONS of skeleton king runs, only to notice one thing.. The random loot doesn't seem too random, maybe its some CRAZY coincidence but this is what I've noticed..
SK has been dropping progressively worse loot after every kill. If you've played the beta through on different characters you will notice that EVERY first SK kill, he will drop a rare along with a few blues..
I noticed on my Barb, that eventually it went from a few blues to a couple blues.. to just one blue with a buncha common junk and now I've gotten to the point where I'm literally, every run getting 1 to 2 pieces of common junk every single run... I've tried a setup with more MF gear with the same results..
So has anyone else noticed this, or am I just crazy?

For me at least SK has been dropping progressively worse loot after each kill. If you've played the beta on different characters you will notice that EVERY first kill of SK he will drop a rare along with a few blues..

I am not in the beta, but the dev team did state that the first kill of the skeleton king will acquire you rare loot. However, every kill with the same character after that will provide more common loot. So its not a coincidence, its how its meant to be.

Well thanks for answering my question right off the bat, first time I've heard of this.
But then I have this question, Is this specifically setup like this for the Beta or what? Considering in the end your going to end up killing bosses over and over again on the same character, thats what MFing is.. Having loot become more and more common as you rack up as you kill the same boss will kind of kill the concept of Mfing
I don't know if someone will have an answer to this or not, but I guess we'll see.

No worries mate. =)
I would include some evidence, but can't be bothered lol. I'm sure if you did a google search or something you will get a more accurate answer.

I don't think we know if thats just a Beta thing, but the idea seems to be that no, MFing is -not- about wasting your life on the same boss. Instead, its about actually killing things. Everything, really.
If people aren't just going right to the boss all the time, then job well done, one incredibly big and obnoxious flaw from Diablo 2 already gone.
Yea, the only time you get a guaranteed rare is with a first kill. After that, the Skele King becomes just as good for loot as a champion/rare mob. Maybe a bit better, but not noticeably in my experience. I like it though. It makes it so that even though boss/dungeon/event runs are still the way to go, you have a reason to stop and kill mobs other than just the necessary ones.
You don't just skip to a boss. You might skip some regular monsters, but its worthwhile to kill champion or rare mobs when you see them. I hope its not just for beta, and it certainly fits in with the mentality the D3 team has expressed before in regards to boss runs.

Well Agreed, but look at it this way. Say I'm running inferno, I've been 60 for a while now and I'm mfing through the whole game act 1 through 4, including all mobs, clearing everything, including bosses. Eventually these bosses after multiple run throughs will begin dropping trash, so in the end, even if you do clear everything, bosses will hold no value.. Which makes 0 sense, the whole point is to clear everything up to the boss, which is the grand finale, the big guy who has the highest chance to drop your o so beloved gear.
Edit- just to add to my previous point, this setup will end up making bosses pointless. People will just end up skipping the main boss if he consistently drops common crap. Whats the point of killing him if you know he wont drop anything of value.. I would just end up clearing all the mobs up to the boss and then bounce on over to the next section.
Renski, after the many many SK runs I have done (I have been in beta for something like 2 and a half weeks now) I have never noticed a decline in loot dropped for each subsequent kill (disregarding the first kill with the rare, of course). It is all in your head. I've found some of my best loot on some of my last SK runs.
There is only a "first kill" bonus for bosses. There is not a "repeated kill" penalty. Do not worry.

That is interesting. There is a possibility that blizzard has thrown in a level variable to help determine what loot drops. For example, I level 13 killing the Skeleton King might get 10% chance for a unique item, where a level 7 character might have a 100% chance to get a unique(yellow item).
We would need a lot more beta testers to input specifics before we could confirm such a thing.

I did not see that either...that is a great design.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
Yeah, it makes the beta quite bland after about a week of playing too - and it makes magic find pretty much useless. If you want to get all rares, just keep making new characters and running through the beta.
I'm almost 100% positive this is not how the final product will end up - otherwise, why play through the first portion of the game?
I think people might be misunderstanding a bit here. The only time the drops you get degrade is after the first kill of a boss. At least in the beta, the Skele King automatically drops a rare (sometimes even 2) when you kill him for the first time, and after that he drops magic items. It doesn't keep degrading every time you kill him, just the first time. After that, you can still even get rares from him, but its pretty, well, rare. I've killed him many times on certain characters, and he continues to drop the same quality magic items, its not as though if you do it enough he'll only be dropping common and trash items.
