So for a few days now we got a lot of new info and from it the stash and all its secrets have unveiled to us. I am wondering are people satisfied with the number of slots that they'll have, shared between all their characters.
A few points to consider:
1. The stash is 350 slots that are locked at first and can be bought with gold to extend to that final number.
2. There will be many, many unique and set items that you will not be able to mule to different characters, but you can make a new Bnet account (that will only cost the price of the game) for an additional 350 slots.
3. Every character on your account will have dozens of runes at the least, which are equipped, but I believe a lot of players will keep some runes for their skills in the stash for further/fun use whenever they feel like it. I know I will. Specially things like Barb runes that increase gold/item drop from monsters that aren't generally good at first, but will come in handy while farming.
4. Gems. There will be so many gems that it's hard to figure out how many slots you'll need to be able to collect the smaller grade ones to be able to combine them into higher grades.
5. There will undoubtedly be vanity items which will be fun to use/collect. Not many of these in D2, but Blizz has learned a lot over the past decade and there will be many, many such in D3. For example items that change your shape, give unique skills, add certain effect to your character while equipped and so on.
6. Salvage materials might not look like a lot right now, but when we reach Inferno and the number of unique materials raises up to, say, 25, they will obviously take a good portion of the stash as well. Especially considering how rare some of them may be.
So, with all these points made, and probably a few others that I've missed - how well do you like the shared stash? Is the space given big enough for all your characters? Should there be specific (extended) slots for items such as gems and runes? Or are you completely satisfied with how it turned out? :]
I have a small addition to this, targeted at set items that I feel some of you may like. What if, after you collect the entirety of a certain set - it combines into a single item requiring only 4 or 6 slots for example, so that it doesn't use as much space as its separate parts. You can then easily right click it or something to once again disassemble it into its separate pieces, in case you want to use a certain one. A new neat way to save up space! :]

While space may become an issue, i think its plenty for now. At worst, that would allow you to store 175 items. If you're storing only gear, that is a LOT of gear, and does not include 10 characters' inventory and wearable items, which would add a significant amount of slots.
I could see them coming up with a rune container or gembox just because those items are relatively space-hungry.
Hell, they could even be additional gold sinks to get and buy more slots for. Maybe add them next to the stash in towns.
Considering that crafting will be in the game, and it takes quite a few resources to build stuff (that's only useful for a couple levels/hours? until you have to do it again) and that this time around people will probably want to sell things in the Auction HouseS.
350 does sound pretty small, especially if you like to have plenty of items in your stash. Since I'll most likely just play with 2-3 characters I'll use the rest of the character slots as an 'extended stash'.
It sounds small? That's hundreds of items, I figure if I can't use it on a character, or don't want to salvage it I should sell it on one of the AH's and use that for something else. I have no idea who these people are who plan on keeping over a hundred items that they aren't using on their characters. What would those items even be for?
Considering that it will allow you to hold vastly more items than you could in D2 and it is shared, I think it will be. There is still nothing stopping you from holding items on characters, and of course unless the stash was limitless in it's size, some people would not have enough room.
Also it looks like most items are smaller in D3. Gear is often 2-4 slots instead of 3-6 slots in D2. I believe some were even 8 slots?

Well, I for example have all 180 slots in my WoW bank filled up + half my character inventory (50). I'm well aware WoW has thousands of items you can gather but my bank there has been full since about BC and I've been trying really, really hard to figure out how to make more room. Not to mention items there take up a total of 1 slot. :]
350 slots is not enough. I dont know what are they thinking.
For hardcore farmers/collectors it wont be enough. Considering ammount of slots items take ... 1 slot for ring, 2 for 1h axe etc. Just not enough.
It would be perfect for 1 character not for all 10
Also most people will learn to sell items knowing they can then rebuy the item in the future for a likely similar price, save inventory space and maybe by that item you really want instead of keeping 4 you may use on another character.

So far it seems like an item never takes up more than 1x2 slots. I have no idea how many characters it would take to hold even 150 armors in d2, but i'm guessing its like 10 or so?
Add to the fact that either you will have an item equiped, will equip it on a character once they are the appropriate level, possibly store a set of pvp items (just for whatever stats may be more desirable there), and the AH, you likely won't have much more than 1 set of gear stored in the stash per character you have. So lets say that's 5 sets of gear not being worn, and lets say that that takes up 15 slots per set, for a total 75 slots used for all your gear (this is not including anything you may be wearing, or each character's personal inventory). This means you have 275 slots to do whatever the hell you want with. Any good gear that you're not actively planning to use will be put up on the AH (G or $) so that you can get gear that you ARE actively planning to use (via gold or $), turned in to mats, or sold to get a little cash.
If they don't go with skill-specific runes, the amount of space those take up probably won't exceed 100 to have every skill runed with the right type and level (assuming you would replace, sell, etc when you get the right level and type with better stats) ((assuming they keep the stats on runes)).
Gems might not take up anywhere near as much space since the high level ones will be sought after and you will (seemingly) always want to transmute (or whatever they call it) up.
gems, crafting materials, and runes all stack and I believe nothing takes more space the 2 slots, so yeah its plenty.
Exactly. Assuming everything takes up 2 slots, that's still 175 items. On top of that, every toon has 60 slots to fill in their own bag. It'll be plenty.
I would argue however, that it is at least 1/2 as big as it should be. Maybe even 1/3 as big as it should be.
--Gems are not too big of a deal because they stack. So your looking at 10-15 slots taken up for gem collecting
--Items you plan on using for your other characters are really the primary purpose of the stash. lets be conservitive and say you keep 8 items for each class in you stash that you plan on using for a different build / expirementing or just plain upgrades for the next time you log on. that is 8x5x2=80.
--Crafting Materials are really a guess. Its not clear how much space you may need for this. If I had to guess you will liekly use most of what you find fairly quickly. But late in the game I am sure you will have stockpiles of the various materials for each artisan, pages of training andrecipees that maybe they can't use quite yet or are for a different specilization that you don't have leveled yet. Lets again be conservative and say you need 20 slots for this.
--Runes are one of the big problems with the size I think. Since we have the official calculator now, and can see each rune color for each skill has a unique name, I think we can almost safely assume that they won't stack. So if you are a completionalist and would like to shoot for collecting 1 of every rune, that is about 480 slots you would need (that also counts for 1 rune type being socketed in to every skill)
--Legendary items. Of course some people don't think of them this way, but I always think of them like baseball cards. You wan't to collect them. Sure you can sell them or breakthem down now, but I still KNOW that I'll want to collect them so I can look at the art work any time. Also, finding duplicates is fun because you can see if its a better version than the one you already have. If there are 200-300 legnedaries, that is another 400-600 slots you would need if you want to try to collect them all.
So I am fully away that to collect all of this stuff would take forever, but its a goal to shoot for and its fun. Personally I hope blizzard at least doubles the size of the stash by adding additional tabs to be purchased.
Either way, the size is a huge immprovement and won't cause to much of a problem early on. But 2-3 years from now it won't be enough. Buying a second account is an option for sure.. maybe even a 3rd.
HOARDERS BEWARE YOUR IN FOR A SCARE. yeah if your a hoarder then no duh it won't be enough, but like all the sensible people have said its hundreds of items. and we still don't know if gems of different grade stack yet or not (same to runes) diablo 2 had limited space and everyone dealt with that just fine. this is tons times more the size of the D2 stash. Items are stored better than they were then. so i feel even with all the runes and gems and what ever vanity items there might be, that yes i do have plenty of space.

Went outside today, the graphics were ok. But the gameplay sucked
I can see three things becoming a potential problem:
Gems - We know they drop only up to level 5 but there 14 levels and six? types. I believe you can use a gem/unsocket/upgrade/resocket your highest gem - but lets say you're working on a level 8 diamond. You theoretically could have a 7 in your eq, a six, a five, four, three, two and first level diamond all stored at once - in other words just upgrading one gem type could use up to 13 slots (assuming you were about to get to 14)
Runes - People seem pretty sure that runes "lock on" when you socket them in a skill - others have seemed to mention that the rune type is not determined until you socket it. So if I want a golden rune in a particular skill I may burn through any number of runes trying for the golden - I'm probably not going to get rid of the runes that locked in at the wrong type because you never know when you're going to want to try that combo. Lots of skills with many runes for each = might have a 100 or more runes - especially if you save low unsocketed ones for future builds.
Sets - We all know there's typically one piece of set eq that is super rare - assuming there is even a modest number of sets for each character class you quickly get to a point where you have dozens of set items waiting for the final piece before that set becomes truely useful (better than the random collection of rares you're probably wearing at that point).
