Now it's just a matter of time for someone to hack his PC and unleash the beta. Since you know, the machine is connected to the Bnet servers. I'm looking at you Swedish torrent sites.

Go 16:9.. I'm stepping on eggshells with this comment because there's a huge confusion about 16:9 vs 16:10, but with modern games you get more out of 16:9.. period. People with 16/10 monitors often set their resolutions in game to a 16:9 aspect ratio to add the extra lateral view, and just live with the black bars on the screen.
I can't wait to build mine.. It's been a pipe dream of mine forever.

I'm assuming that 2560 refers to the screen resolution. How would you know what you could run on the monitor before you buy it? Judging by Groanan's post, 16:9 = lower resolution, 16:10 = higher?
I'm currently looking at 23" monitor (because I don't really like huge monitors) 1920x1080 full HD monitors and I see some that are 16:9 and some that are 16:10.
Can anyone get into details for me? Thanks ;D

16:9 is the more standardized resolution. My screen is a 42" sony LCD television, also got a new 47LED so I'll see which is better. Furthermore, past 1920x1080 I don't see how much resolution can matter. I guess on a 47inch screen it would mean something, but on those gaming monitors does it really make a difference (Actual question to those with 2560 displays)???
Edit: Also, someone's surprised Blizz is playing the game at home? Anyone who has been testing the game plays from home (Blizz employees I mean).
Your total resolution when comparing 16:9 (2560x1440) to 16:10 (2560x1600) doesn't matter, since if you want the best field of view you'll be using a good amount of those extra pixels with a 16:10 monitor as black bars..
I hope this very clear GIF clears this up nice and quick.

So it's still a little unclear to me. What will be the max resolution with a 23" 16:9 monitor? What about a 23" 16:10?
As of right now I don't have an HD monitor, but a standard 19" DVI and I'm running 1440, so I'm assuming that the upgrade would bring me up to 2560?
Your max resolution depends both on your monitor and your GPU. Both of them need to support larger resolutions. My video supports pretty much 8k x 4k resolutions but my monitor is locked to 1080p. The last one is the one my PC can run.
1080p is usually a solid number and the definition of today's "HD". Beyond that we're talking 30+ inch monitors for you to be able to tell the pixels apart.
Be sure to check out Cnet's list of great monitors when making your choice. I've used their lists when making tech purchases before, and I've never been disappointed.

I see. Well, after seeing my friends 24" HD monitor (and how beautiful it looked) I'm sure that a 23" LED HD would look nice when paired up with 2 nvidia 570's. Can't really afford more anyways, so I better be happy with it =P

Indeed. I am using a 23" myself and might just save up for a 27", but am absolutely satisfied (apart from the fact it has no speakers, forcing me to reroute my PS3 cables through an awkward and unsatisfying method). Things to look at when buying a monitor - 1. Framerate (minimum 60) 2. Max resolution (minimum 1080p) 3. LED backlight. In no particular order.

Hmm I was looking at some monitors with 120Hz refresh (I assume that's what you mean by framerate) but I always thought they really only impacted motion blur, which was really only noticeable on larger displays like 32"+. I would love to have a monitor with 120 refresh rate but it's a lot of money for something that I imagine won't make that much of a difference in the end.
I'm thinking...diminishing returns~

@Nastai. Yeah, I meant refresh rate, not framerate. Anyway, the point of having a bigger refresh rate is... less headaches. And I know this from experience. Like, real actual headaches. The more fluid the picture the better your brain works with it.
@Groanan. Yep, it means they'll cut space in the 16:10. Because otherwise they'd have to "fit" the 16:9 picture on a 16:10 aspect ration. Which would look like this. Original image is here.
We're supporting all the normal and widescreen (16:9/16:10) resolutions. Switching from a normal aspect to widescreen you will see more playable space, but within each aspect ratio you're not going to get more game space info. That's how I understand it works right now anyway.
So, personally, I think a widescreen monitor would be a good investment. For a lot of reasons/ really. But for Diablo III a 30" 16:10 isn't going to let you see more of the environment versus, say, a 19" 16:10. You'd just have the visual quality improvements that generally come with a higher resolution.
Do you think we can interpret "support for 16:10" to mean that they won't just crop the image and stretch the remainder to fit the aspect ratio (like in the Starcraft II gif)? I could live with black bars above and below the image, but if they are going to reduce the field of view I'd rather stick to 16:9.
Well the only way to, "support" an aspect ratio is to stay true to it and form the image to the screen from edge to edge. The thing is you will never get more vertical view out of any aspect ratio, that will remain the same across the board.
What does change is your horizontal view (Note how the GIF I posted before shows this). So by that logic, the more rectangle the screen, the more view you get. Since the "widest" almost any game supports is 16:9, that will give you the most game space. The only way to accomplish this on a 16:10 screen is by turning the image into a 16:9 aspect ratio, which puts the black bars up.
I hope I explained that well enough.. I could fall asleep on my keyboard atm..

Or they could slice some of the screen off at the top (making 16:10 give you the most view).
The 704 by 440 screenshots are 16:10
If 16:9 showed more of the game, maybe they would have chosen that aspect ratio for their screenshots???
Or maybe... just maybe... the guy that did that screenshots has a monitor that only supports 16:10.
In any way, 16:9 will always show more space and the reason was given by Winged a few posts above.

Guess I'll just go with my 23" and see what kinda resolution I can run. I hope it's 2560 so Diablo 3 pretty
