I personally love everything Blizzard is doing, they are taking the ball away from the farmers and giving it to the players, granted the farmers will still be around, but this is great to get everything on a legit and equal scale.
I'd really like to play hardcore, but the idea of ladder resets, and dying because of bugs once I get to inferno, puts me off.
Back in D2, back when I still used a CD to play, I could die before even zoning into Duriel because the CD had to spin to play the sounds.
I agree that Hardcore achievements are probably going to be the king of the Diablo hill. This is what will set people apart from the commons.
I don't believe Blizzard has said anything about ladder resets in Diablo III. They were necessary in Diablo II due to the ease at which you could trade for the very best items (because of cheats and dupes). As Bash said just today, it got to the point where a large percentage of players were running around with items that Blizzard intended only a few people to find. Hence the resets.
Since Diablo III won't have these problems (or at least not at a level that is worrisome), I really doubt that Blizzard will be implementing ladder resets in Diablo III.
Of course, if anyone has information contradicting this, please let me know.
Hopefully I can sway those against it with the following arguments.
When I first started playing WOW, I used my brothers account. Then once I finally bought my own account It was easily enough for me to transfer my character from my brothers account to my account.
Furthermore, as a lot of my friends are not gamers, I know they are not going to want play to level 60. Thus, if I have two level 60's I can sell them one of my characters for $1 so that they can play with me. This is assuming that there isn't a flat flee and I could charge something minimal like $1.
Well, I guess what I'm really describing is a character transfer system :\. But hey, where can you draw the line.
