To Dota 2......I'm actually stunned, I know Dota would be big but not that big. Personally I feel that a game without story is not a game and that the whole Dota 2 thing is absolutely absurd....especially when it was a map on a Blizzard game. How does that work? It also looks horrible, league of legends looks better. Im probably ranting because my baby DIablo 3 didnt win
I had never even heard of Dota 2 before this post. I just watched some youtube video's and the game looks pretty dumb to me. The gameplay video was riddled with health bars.
I feel like there is a trend of making fantasy characters have a cartoonish look. I hate it.

lmao I just did the same thing, that thing better not have won > D3. Yet again it is a HUGE game from what i hear over thur in asia land
DoTA became popular because it's a great game overall, and it was completely revolutionary for it's time. It's a very competitive game with a lot of strategy involved. I think Valve did a fantastic job on the sequel, and any awards handed out to the game are probably well deserved. Blizzard lost this one because Valve did a much better job at presenting their product to the mass at Gamescom.
Vexione, you realize that DoTA2 is also in it's alpha stage of testing right? Someone could make the same counter-arguement.
Proletaria I also fail to understand why it seems like you're always biased against competitive gaming.
Hmmm, diablo fans not knowing DotA, never knew people who liked a PvE game wouldn't like a heavy PvP game.
Anyways, @OP I get your hating that Diablo3 lost but you can't say dota2 sucks just because you didn't knew it, it's the exact opposite, don't opine on something you don't know.
And to clear other doubts, Dota2 can be considered the legitimate sequel to DotA, because they have most hero names and titles and items name plus it's being made by the most recent and current DotA developer (IceFrog for the uninformed).
Also @LoL likers, I respect your taste but I think LoL sucks, too much shiny and infant for me (shut up! I play pokemon, but come on, a fire girl?, and I cannot understand how you like Diablo and LoL at the same time.
I'm not surprised, I just started playing LoL(need friends to play with!! Hint hint lol) I think its a great game but I do also think dota 2 will be better for no other reason than my opinion. However I think Diablo 3 will hail over everything in the long run. Id expect game of the year.

No no i played Dota alot in wc3 and also alot of LoL and it was fun for a while but really it was just a map, thats pretty much all it is. LoL was also fun for a a little bit and it was free which was another upside.....I would never pay full amount for a a game like Dota. In LoL it was hard to keep interested unless you didnt buy more heroes or accumulate a fuckload of points to buy it which = more play time.
Often think of dota as an overseas thing. I live in the states(WV/UT) and have met under 10 people who, when I got to know them, pay money for lol, hon, or dota of any kind. That compared to blizzard games, everyone knows what wow is, and most have at least heard of sc2/diablo. Not surprisingly most are stuck in the mainstream of console fps and wow though.
It wasn't surprising, after hearing about a $1,000,000 tournament. Obviously the player base is there, it's just nowhere near me. I guess there's always the possibility that the type of person who plays said games doesn't get out that much in order to be met.

Lost what? instead of writing "......" you could have actually written what they lost in.
People who haven't played DotA on th WC3 won't understand why DotA 2 looks that simple. It is to preserve a simple gameplay basics with advanced stuff like trilanes, jungling, proper positioning in teamfights, good team composition, lane presence and dominance, all of which are hidden under the first layers of gameplay.
That said, having clean fluid gameplay and solid controls is the most important thing in DotA, to me. Graphics weren't a huge deal, balance for a long time was iffy, the sound was all taken from a "dated" quality RTS, it had no story, so what made it to me was the uber WC3 engine's control and solid gameplay fundamentals (which is kind of what theyre aiming for with D3).
For th record I have 25 years and I would still play DotA (for over 7 years now) if its competitors hadn't become so full fledged, with reconnect, antileaver and ranking systems. All I learned from DotA helped me a TON in many games I play today, so to me it was a really important game to take me out of the "casual" gaming I was getting used to and spice things up with competitiveness.
I am sure a lot of DotA players feel it's as important as CounterStrike was back in the day and share similar feelings about the "franchise". That's the reason it hasn't changed a lot, if at all, from its WC3 counterpart.
I can only agree with Zero, the only flaws dota had was that its engine was old, and couldnt support tings like reconnection, or customisable keys, etc., but its gameplay is way better than LoL's or HoN's (played with both). Dota is just more fun and BALANCED IMO. Just look at the competetive heros, hon has like 25 (most of them dota hero) while in dota, most heros are competitive-able, but at least 40 is used reegularly.

Did you know that DOTA is based on the Starcraft 1 map Aeon Strife? In fact, the entire genre is based on Aeon Strife.
Anyway, yea, I am not impressed with DOTA 2. I liked the old school Starcraft 1 game and the League of Legends myself.
I'm trying to find out where he got that pic, I've seen it along time ago it was some sort of D2 characature (?)
