i mean, for what i have seen it looks great... but i think its going out of topic with the classes.
in diablo 2 classes were typical... the paladin, the sorceress, etc. from my point of view they wanted to innovate and create some "futuristic" races, not the style of diablo. like the demon hunter.
the same with environment, i really like it now but its not what it used to be. the typical scary dungeons and the dark places. also the creatures now look less creepy
i think the game will be great, but if you doesn't speculate to be just like the other games... it's like a "new" title
PS.: sorry for the spelling mistakes, im from Argentina!
Well, have you seen the dungeons in this one? The overworld wasn't that scary in D1 or D2, but what I've seen of the actual dungeons in D3 has been horrifying.
As far as the classes go, I don't think they went anywhere crazy. I think the monk makes a lot of sense, as does the wizard and the barbarian. The witch doctor is more a step backward in time than anything. As for the demon hunter, sure, pistol-style crossbows is a little high-tech, but I think the idea is that they keep the secret of that kind of technology/magic to themselves.
Your 3rd paragraph basically answered your own question This is not D2 and this is D3.
Anyway on environment Diablo doesn't need to be scary for me to like it. As long as the main core game is there it should be fine. D2 didn't scare me at all, but D1 did just because it was my first PC game "literally". They also mentioned that it gets darker as you progress in the story so maybe in Act 3 it starts to get really dark.
On classes, they all make sense to me. I will still miss my paladin but I'm glad for the 4 entirely new classes and an improved old class. And no the demon hunter doesn't feel like a futuristic class just because they can use pistol xbow.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
The demon hunter is nothing more than the assassin and the zon combined. Keep in mind this is 20 years later. Also there were more than likely demon hunters for a very long time, you just never heard from them.
Monks have always been around, Witchdoctors as well, they just weren't a major selling point in the other games.
This becomes a good time when I would say read the book and some of the lore tidbits in game.
For the most part, I like their approach with all the classes. Some changes can be scary at times but I do think that they are in the right track. I am sure we will get to see a lot more about each class and understand their background story better as we play throughout the game ourselves.
I think that portraying the Demon Hunter class as if they were obsessed about hunting down demons is great concept. I am really interested in seeing their side of the story...
However, I do think that they have exaggerated a little bit with the concept of their traps and the grenades but we will see...
On a Demon Hunter note about the fact it uses gun type stuff, I can't remember the name of the NPC in D2 its been so long, but in Act V I remember him mentioning inventing projectiles that shot like "little cannons". That could be a bit of lore behind the high tech stuff?

And what should they had done instead? Just use the old classes in D3? That would be stupid, it would just be a remake of D2 with some new gameplay mechanics, environments and skills of course. The only reason those classes were the "style of Diablo", is because that's what people have been used to for the last 11 years with D2. As others have stated before, this is Diablo 3, not Diablo 2.5.
maybe you're right. maybe i'm afraid it won't be as good as the previous one, but sure it will or even better
Diablo 3 classes... Monk is the holy class that the paladin was (we'll ALL miss the pally), Demon Hunter is zon + sin combined with a little more flare which is great, Witch Doctor is a nice twist on the necromancer which I'm looking forward to seeing more of, and the Wizard and Barbarian are classic and staples in most fantasy games. All of them make perfect sense to me! lol I'm also loving the style of the dungeons and world in D3, it looks much more uncertain and scary in general.
PLUS keep in mind we've only seen early game monsters... YOU JUST WAIT TILL LATE GAME, I think I'll be screaming and spamming teleport away as fast as I can by the time I get to hell's last act or inferno's.
Can't wait to see more of the terrifying monsters I'm going to get to kill.

I think the game will be awesome and it'll be played for many years to come, especially if they release expansions. D2 is a good game, but we need something new instead of the 1-2 skill spam fest, no energy - just enough strength for gear - enough dex for block - rest into vitality kind of gameplay. I was against the new skill system when it was announced, but after thinking a lot about it, I'm inclined to agree that Blizzards decision is the best in the long run. I bet you this game will be played for years. edit: i.e. a decade at least.
yes you're right! what do u think about online playing? people are complaining about that... i think its great. maybe because in my country 95% of games are pirated (dont know if i wrote that ok lol)
I don't really see why they wouldn't have pistol crossbows and big transforming crossbows when the assassin in D2 was throwing out grenades and traps all over the place.
Really what I think they did with the classes was more of a combination of previous ones. The reason for doing so might simply be to pack more flavor into each class. Some examples.
This isn't confirmed of course, this is just how I am looking at things. Remember, they were only introducing five classes at first, just like the previous. It would feel like the game would have less class variety than the LoD expansion for D2 had otherwise. Also, games always need something new so that alone is enough reason to try out new class designs.
As for the environment, I can say it looks a lot better and much more fluid than before. Sure, ground level seems a little bright, but the dungeons are very true to their "Gothic" nature and quite frankly, the monsters seem to be all about team Satan, so I don't know why you think they don't look intimidating at all (Have you seen that fucking Siege Breaker Assault thing?!)

Demon Hunter = Amazon + Assassin Traps
Monk = Paladin + Assassin Martial Arts
Witch Doctor = Necromancer + Druid Summoning
Wizard = Sorceress + Druid Offensive Spells
