I am a little concerned regarding Inferno and forced grouping. I’ve been reading posts and many of the posters are excited that Inferno will be so difficult that grouping is going to be forced to complete it. Some are downright gleeful that solo players, like me, will not be able to complete it or farm it for the drops. I quit playing MMOs because of this “Make friends or you can’t have the best gear!” mentality.
I understand they have made the loot drops individual so pugging is finally bearable. But I am concerned that the best loot in the game will be once again limited to social players like in MMOs. Those people communicating over vent, preforming their groups and choosing specs based on their party members. So even if you can farm for 20-30 hours per week solo, like me, you will not get anything of value unless you “make friends”.
If it’s going to be totally puggable, forget I even mentioned it. The loot drops are individual now and so I can handle the casual nature of just pugging 3 people and going for it. But if I’m stuck leveling alts or farming lower difficulties until my “guild” shows up, I’m going to be pretty pissed off.
My understanding is that you'll be able to solo any difficulty, albeit with more challenge as you go up. I haven't seen any indicators that inferno will require a highly coordinated effort by four players.
I don't think they've ever said it was not soloable.
There have been several posters giggling with glee that they believe Inferno is going to be so difficult unless you're willing to commit to what I can only describe as a "guild" you will be left in the dust.
I am not a social person. I quit playing MMOs because I am antisocial. But if Diablo's endgame is only completed by MMO like guilds I will be a pretty angry antisocialite.
Hence the social wall. Unless you can maintain a collection of game friends you're going to crack your head on it.
Well people say and expect a lot of things. Right now though we have absolutely no proof that it's group only. In fact we should be logical and assume the opposite, it's soloable like the rest of the game.
I would also be really annoyed if it was group only but I highly doubt this is the case. It'll end up being like other difficulties, it's more fun and potentially a little easier with more people.
They've said time and time again this is a casual game that you can come in, put 30 minutes and get somewhere. If Inferno requires a group this really wouldn't be the case. You'd see something like raids in WoW where it takes 3-4 hours 3 days a week.
While I'm certain that being in a group would make things easier, everything will most likely be soloable. One will just have to change their strategies to overcome difficult situations. I wouldn't let a bunch of random posters get you all worked up over what may or may not be.
Even if the make it something that 'needs 4 people', I know without a doubt that 2 competent people could do it, because their standard of skill for players is probably really, really low. And then once you get good gear I can easily see 1 competent player doing something 'intended' for 4 people.

THIS!!!
If it turns into groups to do inferno thats a huge turn off, I played WoW long enough I don't want this needing to get peeps to end game crap all over again, if that happened you know they will have to nerf it at some point because many players are not skilled compared to the hardcore.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.

Off Topic: Sir I believe your sig .gif is quite possibly the most amazing .gif I have seen in my 25 years.
Hmmm... now I'm pretty dang casual but I'm going to go ahead and say that there is nothing saying this will be impossible to do solo, it will just be really really hard. That said I don't expect it to get nerfed or be easy. I'm hoping this will be a fairly hard mode, not a cake walk or any such thing.
To those saying it will get nerfed later on, I think your missing the point. Any patch that adds new content may raise the level cap or keep it the same but this is endgame mode. Not Hell, but pure everything will kill you mode. Diablo will be just as hard of a boss as the Act 1 boss. It shouldn't be going gentle and should be something you walk into knowing death will be around the corner.
It won't be nerfed, because it will always be the max level mode, if they raise the level cap I'm sure they will raise it to that cap. Also nerfing it would devalue the gear people have bought from Inferno since it was too hard for them.
I don't know about people saying that it would be bad if it required a party because you can play everything in the game well before Inferno. You have to beat the game 3 times just to have a chance at it. Sure it will be harder with maybe a few unique bosses but for the most part it is the same thing, you've seen it all already.
Interesting post. I'm sure that when people first hit level 60 and arrive in Inferno it will be pretty damn hard. But if you have gear good enough you should be able to at least solo most of Inferno. At the same time, you don't need to be social to find a party for Inferno farming. There are going to be SO many people doing this, it won't be a problem finding players. You farm faster with a party because drops are constant and kill rate increases.
I don't really think it would be game-breaking to find that it required some previous difficulty "farming," in order to effectively solo the next difficulty at some level of efficiency. Similarly, I don't think it will be impossible to just step into the next difficulty level and put a bit more time and effort into killing things.
I certainly don't have a problem farming the previous difficulty to survive Inferno. I'm all for that. And I don't have a problem with it being challenging. It would be boring and pointless otherwise. I just have a problem with it being the social wall I described. Where skill and effort count for nothing, all that matters if you found enough people. If I wanted to play an MMO I'd play an MMO.
I don't think they've ever said it was not soloable.

I completely agree, I quit wow for that very same reason, as far as the need for other people to get anywhere. I love the fact my buddy can pop in at any time and we can play together, but literally 90% of this games selling point to me is the ability to never see a person if I don't feel like it. And while they are boasting at how hard inferno is, i really doubt it will NEED to be grouped, the rest of the entire game is solo-able, so I'm not too concerned that inferno won't be.
In his many interviews, Jay has never been one to make sunny comparisons between WoW and D3. I think he's been quite adamant that they are dramatically diffirent games and that D3 is specifically a much more casual title. I would assume from this that inferno will not be raid-content (so to speak) and will fit in with the rest of the game as such.
Don't see Inferno being raid-like content, at all. Isn't the game harder when 4 people are in it anyway? So I think that if you have the items and experience, you can solo inferno. Perhaps just because of 4 bodies, team-play might be somewhat easier but I think it'll still be soloable. They said ENTIRE GAME is soloable, and inferno necessarily is part of the game. An important part since many of the top items dont drop anywhere else
Don't get me wrong, I am not one to bash people for comparing things to WoW. WoW is not a dirty word as far as I am concerned. But in this case, the WoW mentality has got to be let go. This is NOT a game where terms like: "pug" and "looking for more" and "not soloable" and "need to be in a group" should ever be used. Forget this kind of logic.
This is a game where you will and can ply everything solo. If you make an inferno game, and you leave it open to the public, some people may join up. If they are bad and die, they will leave and you can continue on your way. If your friends log on (skilled) and see you playing, they may join up and the two of you can be on your way together (and likely at a slightly quicker clip).
If you join a random game, you may very well be joining with some one who is horrible. But do not expect "the group to fall apart" or other such WoWesc things to happen.
In this one case, please, this is not WoW. This is Diablo.
