You can have a 1000ms ping, but if you're playing with other people with a 1000ms ping is doesn't mean anything. I'm not sure why they don't put a server other there, maybe there's not enough sales.. Doubt it though.. Skill, as I said, the MM system will surely match you with people of similar ping, since that's one of the main reasons for a MM system..
Monsters don't have any ping. And 350 ping is a lot if you want to use that health potion at the last second.
Exactly right and this is what gives me the shits no mention in podcast. All about the smoke screen of Auction and pvp.... Meanwhile the rest of us will be dieing a lot because of pings...
Of course it wont get a mention. I also plan to twitter a lot and facebook. Its all i can do really...
Don't Aussies connect to SEA servers for SC2? I thought I read somewhere that they planned to do the same thing for D3 so that you don't have excessive ping.
They are really forcing out hand here. I am still going to buy the game but it looks like i will have to get it cracked to fucking play it with no lag. This is something i do not want to do...
I still feel they won't just let this issue exist freely... but since I don't have any evidence of this I won't argue it. I hope you guys are wrong though, I'd love for everyone to have great gameplay experiences 100% of the time. If you guys are right though... kinda rough to say.. but it's for a greater good.. X(

Whether or not you'd heard of D2 mods is irrelevant. That's a result of your personal habits and is anecdotal evidence at best.
At the same time, the fact that you played them is anecdotal and irrelevant as well.
Show me some numbers on the number of unique users that used any mod at all, and I'd be interested to see it.
I don't think either of us has those numbers. I don't even know if anyone's bothered to compile that kind of information.
I know that mods weren't supported through bnet. That's kind of my point. mods for d2 were never supported, and they don't plan to support them for d3. Any modders who want to do something in the d3 engine will have to allow players to connect with one another like they always have (or to play offline in the case of single player mods).
edit: by any mod at all, i don't mean things like maphack, I mean things like different abilities or game systems or whatnot.
Good thing I wasn't basing my comment as to their popularity on my own opinion then, otherwise you might have had a point there. You could probably find some of the old mod contests via Google, but I don't horde old game magazines so I can't tell you exactly what issues to look for.
In the end, Blizzard will do what they want. We'll just see more people who would have purchased it for single player/LAN pirating it instead.

I mean, I'm used to playing online games with a lot of ping. It's simple logistics, they can't put servers everywhere. It's just the single player that bothers me.
I can't say I know all to much about if a single player char can somehow be manipulated to break the game. If I were to bet on it, I'd bet there are plenty of people who would figure out how to do it. Hell my step dad figured out how to bring my first single player barb in D2 online.. He was a programmer for Dun and Bradstreet, nothing special.

Notroll drax, but I seriously cannot keep a strait face after reading those last posts. I promise you that singleplayer is not the victim of a Blizzard conspiracy.
I don't really care. I'm online constantly anyway.
I just wish blizzard would stop with the bullshit and just admit it's an anti-piracy measure instead of trying to come up with random excuses that are easy to see through.

What is this attitude? I really don't understand it. Is blizzard on trial? Are they being audited?
They've explained themselves on more than one occasion with this issue and what's more, we've continued to speculate good reasons they'd also want to follow their current path. So what's the point of being angry about it, especially if you "don't really care," eh?
What made you think that? It's just my opinion that Blizzard is making stuff up to hide the real reason for this, but since I'm not affected by it I do not really care. Honest words go a long way in my book, but I guess in the current time those are hard to come by, at least from the corporate world.

Not everyone can afford good internet. Single Player is still fun for those who have no other choice. This is going to hurt sales and long-term play - it will be much easier to give up on a game that doesn't have off-line play. Some of us go places where we aren't connected to the internet and want to play.
This is going to hurt game-play. There are internet outages, game maintenance and other snags that are going to force people off the game and well have no alternative but to go outside or get something done. I dont play games to be forced to stop and do the s#!t i'm trying to avoid in the first place! Give me an off-line option you a-holes!

I agree. But some most people aren't able to read through corporate BS, and assume they "do no wrong".
This poll is ultimately flawed as people that want to play offline, aren't going to be part of the community; and vice versa.People online will not effect people offline. People offline will not effect people online.
The choice was for DRM/hacking/botting reasons. If they release an offline client, it will be broken down and used piece by piece to "break the code" of the multiplayer client. They could make unique offline client that behaves significantly differently than the multiplayer client, but that would be a huge waste of money and guess what, this is a business we're talking. $$$ effects all decisions.
God why do people miss the fact it doesn't matter if you have broadband or not which i do but yeah it all matters on the location of servers..... Ping is going to be killers for some...

I think the operative assumption is you won't need much conversation between your pc and the servers to play alone.

well considering monsters and items and your character and npcs will be located on server i would assume there would be a lot of conversations between server. Like a mmo without the advantages ohhh a auction house....

Sounds like random bullshit to me.
(Doesn't that sound angry?)
