On the other hand, new mechanics doesn't mean better mechanics.
This was how it was for me:
graphics/art -> *is happy*
removal of skill tree (still points) -> omg nice step forward
news of beginning skills = viable -> !!!
complex rune system -> holy shit even better, time to preorder!
PvP in arena only -> ok cool i can live with that
no stat choice -> ....ok...the graphics and skill/rune potential will make up for that!
"unattuned rune" -> er...
removal of skill point -> wtf?

I like to think you still have some sense of skill points... the level of the rune you would use is essentially the number of points you would have in a given skill.
lol, no thanks. I can prove you wrong all day and you can just pretend that you made a point by getting the last word in all you want. What you have said so far is so untrue I'm surprised you even know what a courtroom is.
No charms despite already having a better system in place (talisman)
Legalised P2W
The game shouldn't be devolving at all.
Devolving? There is more skill choice in Diablo 3 then in Diablo 2, the attribute system wasn't a fun/good mechanic in Diablo 2, Charms... they want to do this right and not delay the game any further, do you really want a not perfected mechanic or wait a bit for it to be added at some point in the future?
People don't like big changes to mechanics they feel safe with, that doesn't mean the new mechanic isn't better.
Yeah the attribute system sucked in D2. Did you even read my follow up post?

You still have skill choice. You can only choose 6/22 skills to use at any given time. I'm sure you'll disagree on this, but I don't plan on switching skills in between fights, and I don't think many others will either. I'll be picking the 6 I want for whatever build I'm deciding to play and I'll make those skills work for all encounters.
Your second and third points are solved by the stat bonuses on runes, and also potentially by the passives that "increase x stat by 20%" (which also combines into build choice).
Your last point fails to hold water. If the matchmaking system is at all successful, you might be able to argue its "pay to play people better than you faster," but from what I know of MMSs, the goal is to get you to fight better rated people (or worse) until your w/l ratio is 50/50. Better gear will just get you fighting either better people with less gear, or similarly skilled people with the same gear.
Now, you might be able to argue that that is unfair to the better-skilled-with-lesser-gear players, but I am of the opinion that after a certain point, skill is harder to come by than gear.

HEy... Panthera.... how DARE you bring logic into a trolling whine-thread? HOW DARE YOU?!?!
You say free respecs like it's a good thing. There's basically no consequences for changing your skills on the fly. Besides from runes (if they get revised) but eventually you'll probably have a rune in each skill anyway. It turns the game into use these skills to kill this boss, then use a different skill combo to deal with mobs. You have a generic character that can be used in any situation. I would prefer the extra challenge of making your build work for mobs that it isn't wholly intended for.
And you talk about paying for respecs like it's a good thing. It makes no difference. When the time comes where people want to play around with their skills, they'll just grind a bit for some extra gold and then spec around to see what combos they can have. Does that sound fun to you, grinding to see what your character can do? Is it really fun to be penalized, to have a minor slap on the wrist just to play the way you want to?
And saying 'you'll probably have a rune in each skill anyway' is true, though I'm thinking you're referring to level 7 runes. Saying you'll have level 7s in each skill is like saying you'll eventually have a full set of legendary gear, and yes, they likened the rarity of level 7 runes to that of legendary items. So, yes eventually, if you play long enough, you will have level 7 runes in each skill.
So far I also haven't seen a 'use this to kill this boss' skill before. They all pretty much function around one another or towards a specific build.
And like PantheraOnca pointed out, most players will choose their 6 skills early on and stick with them, rarely trading them out, probably only to better complement their build. Runes, especially if they are locked, will encourage skill focusing and building. The game is looking up more and more.
