Diablo 2 didn't have any, which was a disappointment in my opinion. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a link to a youtube video of all the audio books in Diablo1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUSaDzuWN14
I loved the tone of his voice, and the types of words chosen are so riveting. It really added to the creep of the game. Opinions, mortals?
I really hope so, it will allow the player to get immersed into the story even more. And its always nice to have a break from combat that will also suit the nature of Diablo 3.
I remember seeing some of these around in the demos showed at Blizzcon, can't recall the year though.
It was a pretty obvious feature to add if you ask me, they can fall back to it specially in those intervals between battles (which can be anywhere between 20-30 seconds) and help you learn both about what happened so far regarding the lore (D1 and D2) and also give away new information about D3's monsters, classes and overall events happening in the world.
Weren't the narrators different for each class for most of the books? I think Sorcerer, Warrior and Rogue had different voices for those.
I'll definitely like them as they are in Diablo III!
Some of the books in D1 were narrated by Archbishop Lazarus (Paul Eiding) and the others were narrated by those that played the characters. So, yes, you are correct!
My inner grammar Nazi cringes at your spelling. But i did enjoy the books in d1. I don't think they will be provided outside of town or as a non acquirable item considering the rapid change of pace that would have to take place for the immersion to be effective.
What I was wondering was if we still get the text to go with it. In all the videos you just hear NPC's or audio books. There's nothing to read on screen. It's probably an option somewhere though, they have to accommodate for the hearing impaired.

I am really excited what they are doing with Diablo 3 in relation to having the story being narrated to you while you continue playing. Even though, I personally would literally stop everything and pay full attention to each one I got. =)
Yes, two in D2. The one about The Countess and the Arcane Sanctuary.
I think D3 developers understand that longtime fans of D3 aren't simply into gameplay but enjoy soaking up all the lore as well. But yeah instead of a wall of monologue text it will be done in a more fluid way.

There was one in the Arcane Sanctuary too...
