So I have cheated once in a while in my youth, starting with warpzones in Super Mario and even the IDDQD+IDKFA cheat in Doom. However I have never cheated on a game like Diablo and its sequals and never will. It kinda spoils everything!
Now to the discussion.
How do you feel about the trainers and cheats for all the online-games out there?
Do you fear the trainers and cheats will become an issue of Diablo 3?
And uhm..
Is single-player mode offline?
If YES; Would you think its okey to cheat in single-player mode?
I don't think that "cheating" on any game, be it on a platform or an online game, is cool. To me it just says you have no skill to actually play the game as it is meant to be played from beginning to end. Cheats have become an issue for D2 and there is no doubt that within a few years after release, if not sooner, some douche will make some sort of cheat for D3.

True. When I played Diablo II and Torchlight, I did my best to not visit the wikis dedicated to those games. Even that felt like cheating. But I still had to do it. For the recipes...
Utilizing wiki's or threads on builds I don't find as cheating but as wonderful helping guides. Totally different from using a third party software. Now that's cheating.

I can see how you felt like that. I like to try out my own builds first to see how they do. What may work for some won't work for others because we develop our own strategies. I use build guides for help with gear mostly. Helps me to know what to look for and why you should have it equipped. But like I said, everyone has their own strategy.

I think it largely depends on what single player ends up being. If the only "single" player aspect of the game is taking your char into a game by yourself but still through b.net, i'm 100% against it as this will absolutely ruin the economy of the game. If single player is like d2 in that its 100% separate from b.net, then by all means cheat to your hearts content.
I do believe however that single player and multiplayer characters will be one and the same, so cheating will likely be a breach of the ToS. Yes i know nothing has been announced but i'd be suprised if they seperate them like they did in D2.

Biggest problem with that is then people tend to bring those cheats into online play because it becomes the only way they can "play" the game. If they didn't like how it was meant to be played in SP and knowing that's how it'll be online is to much of a temptation not to change the way the game is for their own gratification.

I completely agree with you, however at least with b.net play, Blizzard has warden around to help detect / prevent cheating, as well as the ability to drop the ban hammer and/or delete accounts. That being said, i'm against cheating because i think it ruins the fun of the game. I also know that cheaters will be around as they are in every popular game. And if gold is actually valuable, you can bet your bacon that the wow gold farmers will become wow/d3 gold farmers. If there is money to be made from cheating, the cheaters WILL come. Sad but true.

No.
Theres no way they will let offline characters play online. 0% chance.
And about cheats. I think cheats like godmode or any other drastic change in the game will not be possible. The true problen is botting. It's just so fucking difficult to fight this kind of third party that i dunno... And bots have drastical impacts in other's gameplay.. In diablo at least bots promoted deflation, making items overly easy for most people. In a game with currency, bots may farm gold. If they do they will creat inflation, making everyone poor (except the bot users).
I really hope they can control the bot problem. If not, i will have to leave b.net and try to play in private realms.

I guess i wasn't too clear. What i meant was that singleplayer may end up not being offline at all, but rather an online game that just has no other users playing with you. Do we know for sure about an offline mode yet?
As mentioned before the problem is botting, and unfortunately blizz has proven unable to stop it, even in WoW. Warden is a joke, don't put your hopes in it. Since gold will actually be meaningful in d3, there will be gold farming bots in d3 as long as there are people willing to pay real world money for the gold, same as in WoW.
Also, since items are not bound, I'm expecting account hacking to be rampant. Blizz and players fail so hard at security they should package an authenticator with the game.
There will be some BOE or BOP items in the game. My link
As for bots, they will come. But as mentioned, since gold will be more meaningful there will be gold finding bots as opposed to mf bots for D2. And, if the chat is anything like Sc2, hopefully we won't see a lot of ad bots in game or in chat.

BoE and BoP are (currently) gone. As for bots, at least in WoW they are very easy to ignore/report. Its definitely not nearly as big of a problem as it is in D2, so hopefully a similar system is implemented.
I'm pretty sure this whole offline/online single player has been answered. Ordinary SP is played online and the characters can be used in coop. There is an offline option, but (obviously) you can't use those online. Pretty much the same as D2 except online is the default. Oh and you'd still have to sign in online before you went offline, like Steam.
I don't have a source for that, I'm just going based on memory, but that's what I recall reading way back in like 2009. I could be mistaken.
Even if this isn't accurate, there's still no way potentially cheatable offline characters will be available online. I don't know why that would ever be a worry.
