So, with some recent conversations going on, I realized that one of the key trees from D2 missing is the shape shifter tree of the Druid. With more classes hopefully coming with the expansion, it is possible that we may still see this skill set. the question is, in what form?
The druid had werebear and werewolf. The demon hunter was originally a demon and I am sure they tossed in the idea of shape shifting and decided against it. So, what forms of shape shifting would you like to see if a class were to get this skill set? Keep in mind, that the class itself may influence this but its up to your imagination.

I guess, for me, it would have to be the origin location of the class that would matter. I really thought a demon shape shifter was on the horizon but I understand why they didn't do it.

I thought about this, and it would only work imo if you could pick from a few transformations that didnt require any points. Thus all transformations would have to be able to use the same skills. Whether you would want all forms available off the bat, or if you'd have to unlock them with trait points instead..... thats the obstacle im seeing with this class. Like the idea of this class though
To be frank, no shape shifting classes please. It just seems to split the character and I've never seen shape shifting made interesting anywhere. I always hate it. Nevermind that your shape-shifted change generally never changes from equipment and such (visually). Why would anyone even want one of these? I really don't see the appeal.
I think it could be cool to have a shape shifter of sorts that shifts for certain skills, but I usually don't like it when it, like SFJake said, splits the class. That can be fine if each shift is its own thing, however, instead of like "Oh when you go into x form you're like a Barb, and this form is like a Monk, etc." I also feel like they would have to shift to pretty interesting forms, and bear and wolf are kind of off the table if the Druid doesn't return. Its definitely an archetype thats missing, and I can see it being introduced in an expansion, but it would have to be pretty well executed to interest me all that much.
A Post Concerning The Real-Money Auction House:
"Except real money trading has always been present in Diablo 2. Except now it's going to be officially supported which will reduce scams, prevent the funding of the black market so your kids will no longer be exposed to dangerous life ruining drugs like the cancer causing marijuana."
I was always a fan of the druid, however I hope Blizz will have something new and fun for us in the expansion. Some sort of shape shifter would be sweet to see in D3.
I think that If shape shifting worked like the zombie dogs in terms of skills available it would be fine (one base and 1-3 more advanced skills that work with it.) As to what kind a Druid is Pretty standard, have maybe one form and make it like a Weretiger or something. But It doesn't necessarily have to be an animal. Perhaps some coastal community draws power for a tidal spirit and the 'priests' or what have you can turn their bodies into liquid. Have some abilities dealing with restraining, hurling water/ice phantom currents. Call it an Aquarian or something. Or a master of plants which can enter an Ent form. It could have a different take on minions to contrast with the Doc. All Skill combination (basically) should be workable (The Doc has 1 skill that requires one of 2 others or so right?) and there should not be more than one form. Gear should also influence it somehow in terms of appearance. Just a few thoughts that came to mind.

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...
I'd bet my soul there will be some form of shape shifting in the expansion. Fact is that while the team was developing the current 5 classes, they also had to be discussing the future classes to be added to the game so they had enough original ideas to work with, shape shifting I bet was on of them. The Druid, while part Zeal Pally as mentioned, was fun to play with the extra health and speed added while in forms. I'd like to see more creative forms than just a bear and wolf. Maybe something like a Centaur, or some form of Demon or Dragon.
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” - Albert Einstein
Ok I have a few thoughts on the shape shifter idea so bear with me. (no pun intended) One point i would bring up is The druid could see a return for same/similar reason the Barb did it was good but not great and there is sooooo much more they could do with him or her o.0? Plus the argument of gear not showing is something that can come down to the development they just correspond form look to gear and boom you have gear effect your form problem solved. Mind you this would probably take some time but it would be a new D3 class so why not put the little extra in to make it great. As for actual form ideas you could go with: an Asian tiger type idea, or a lion, an alligator/caiman (could be tanky or dps falls to reasoning), an idea based on a bird type form might make things interesting, a Spirit form opens doors I think, Boar for tanky, some arachnids could be fun like spider or scorpion, another tanky idea would be a rhino, and why straight animals a chimera might be fun, or manticore, mind you the last 2 fall into the "monster" category that I don't think they want to do. Lastly a couple my on rejected ideas: snake form (how do I hold my weapon now  ), of course for diablo I have to say it a cow form, elephant form (just terrible form idea all around there :pinch: ). Well thats all I can think of at the moment.
A depends-on-which-skill-do-you-use type of shapeshifting. You don't need to spend any point in a "Shapeshift" skill, but each skill (or set of skill) has it's own shape that matches it. Are you out of combat, running? You're a cheetah. Did you just use a harden-skin-like skill? You're a bear. Did you use the mobility skill? You're an eagle. Are you stealthed, creeping towards the biggest enemy without being seen to kill it first? You're a snake. Are you in town? You're human. I think you get the idea. They must make the shape-to-shape transitions look cool, though.
They can make items affect the look of the animal forms too. I mean, items look different for each class, maybe for this druidesque class, armor looks like fur. I know it must be hard to implement, but if they do it right, this could be a great class in my opinion. They can make it really varied, with several very different paths of specialization.
I have said this in older threads, and I guess I will say it again. Half of the Druid Shapeshifting tree is pretty much a Zeal Paladin copy-paste, with more focus on health rather than defense/block. I didn't really like that part to be honest. So if shapeshifting is introduced again I would like it to be more unique.
Forms... Bear form xD That is the only good tanky form that I can come up with. My imagination kinda sucks. And umm... cat form? I like cats, and they are agile and stuff. Ya.. And Gargoyle Form because that is totally out of place with a Bear and a Cat, but still totally awesome.
They kinda adjusted that with Werebear in 1.13. Werebear got a major defense boost, I think. Still, I agree.
I love my werewolf <3
I always wanted a skill (probably top-tear) that lets you copy other monsters (not bosses). So, you'd get all their skills/bonuses/weaknesses.
Additionally, shapeshifting could be simply a 0 tier skill- whatever class can use it just has it from the get-go. That way you don't have to spend a point so that you can actually use the skills in one of your trees.
Well hmmm, I loved loved my druid, but given how few are probably left me thinks it may not happen. Hell we only know of really two Barbarians left and as much as I like the equality I would have been willing with there only being the main Barbarian from II being the last one left. One can dream.
Back on topic! Yes, that would be a good thing. Ummm, dang really I think the idea of some priest sect maybe allowing with some demonic transformation would be interesting, god only knows what kind of powers are rising up since the world stone got hammered. Still as that would be something I would be into, it would feel a bit like doubling up with the Demon Hunter.
Still rogue Priest no longer wishing to sacrifice his/her world for Diablo joining the fight to bring the Prime Evils down. The gift of being human is free will, so I guess it could work.
Yo, Raptor, you stole my idea, make a botanist class! Let em transform into a plant, each type depending on the situation. Want to trap your enemies? Turn into a snare of a thorn bush, heal your party with some magical fruit off of your magical fruit tree (beans are not fruits, nor do they grow on trees!), some actual damage? How about a venus fly/demonspawn of diablo trap. Trying to romance your girlfriend? Turn into a rose bush! Any situation the Prime evils can throw at you YOU. WILL. BE. PREPARED!
On a more serious note why not some shamanistic/druidic character but one who 'channels' the power of the animals through him as an attack. Say he would have an ability 'charge of the ox/rhino' and it would be a standard charge attack but the animation would be him engulfed in the ox/rhino essence, sorta a ephemeral ox/rhino ghost overlapping the character to show the animal essence. Have all of his attacks embrace some sort of animal. Eagle talon strike, Snake bite, Alligator bite, etc. And you can even give the class actual stat boosts or 'auras', might of the gorilla would boost his strength, dex of the monkey, or have auras or modes, berserk of the bear - go in a berserking rage for a few seconds, or a more permanent aura like skin of the tortoise - defense increase by x%.
The only problem in this is the fact that it would not have one specific niche, it would be the jack of all trades class and not unique in its own right, except less so than the D2 or WoW druid as it does not have a specific form that it takes to take on a role but only attacks.
On a more personal opinion, I love the druid class. Both in D2 and in Wow, I love the ability to have a 'swiss army knife' class that does everything in one (to a degree) and the limitedness of it was fine as I had more of what the others didn't except as in both cases I actually wanted MORE forms to take on and to be even if they had slight cross overs and less variation (though it should be different to some degree). So I would love a shape shifting druid class just give me MAOR!

I agree with feminism. I don't think that it's right that for every dollar a man makes, a women gets 70 cents. Why do I only get 30 cents and some chick gets the rest?

I would like to see multiple shape-shifting capabilities. For example, temporary bird form that allows for flight over enemies for a few seconds. (Maybe equivalent to teleport?)
Others:
Chimera would be pretty cool. It could add temporary elemental abilities to the caster.
Pegasus: Perhaps triggering an aura effect for the party while not being able to do anything else.
A sewer rat - for kicks and giggles
A Griffon - an instant cast skill that takes an enemy into the air and drops it. (Effective only on ground enemies)
A mini-dragon with fire abilities different from what a chimera would have.
A vulture - The skill would eat a corpse and regain a small amount of hitpoints. Instant cast?
A bear - Slow clawing attack with brutal damage.
A serpent - with poison-like abilities
A bull - charging attack
A cheetah - temporary speed boost
A turtle - Small size, can be kicked around (increased defence)
The shapeshifter would have to learn to switch between animal forms at appropriate moments in the game to be effective.
I am obviously being very broad here. I leave the rest to your imaginations. But my idea is to add some skillful play to shape-shfiter by requiring different forms for different types of combat. I think that would be a lot of fun and variety.
If there is one thing i need it would be a chimera, medium based class with lots of power and speed, multiple types of attack, stealth power, weak but numbered. Catch my drift? Werebear and wolf have to be there of course, but i like a bird as well as aerial strikes of stealth can come in handy put in a % chance to miss to make it harder being that you're unseen and cant be attacked by ground monsters and you have some decent balance. I would also love a copycat ability as well it seems that this would please most fans, as i'm sure playing as a fallen overseer would be kick-ass.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
In warhammer there is a class called marauder. His arm would shape-shift into a sword, mace, and a axe. These were almost like stances of the warrior in WoW. Basically the sword was quick single target dmg, the mace was slow strong single target, and the axe was aoe around you.
Maybe just part of the character shape-shifts and this actually changes how the spells work.
