There's been threads on PvP specifics, but none on how you'll play it regardless. I'm a perfectionist, when I get a new game I aim for a perfect score, each death, or defeat is a smudge on my record as I see it. Diablo 3 will be no different. Surely you'll have a PvP record of wins, loses, kills, deaths, and so on. How will you take to it? After all, it is just a game, will you play for kicks, regardless of win or lose? Or are you casual, everyone will lose eventually, trying is all one can do. Or is each lose another broken keyboard?

I think I might actually murder anyone near me if I see them acting like that...
Oh man, I realize that I am worse than these guys.
Back on topic, D3 pvp seems interesting. Wasn't that much of a pvper in D2 though I have tried it.
Competition brings excitement but not as much enjoyment to me.
So until the game is in my hands and I know what's going on, I won't be able to decide.
I loose all the time in everything, Im not made for contests. The PVP is something I wont play much. Never bin much of a battler against friends. But I always have a great sense of humour while playing games with friends. I dont mind to loose, its just boring to loose all the time.
After I'm satisfied playing through the story enough I'll hop onto some serious pvp. Competing is fun. However, after a while I'll probably just go back to playing the story.

It's a lot of fun, so I'm definitely going to play it a lot. In D2... Wow, I don't think I've had a real duel beyond just zapping my friends since late 1.11 or early 1.12. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I want to be really good at it, have a niche. But beyond that... Dunno.
Nothing worse than competition in my eyes. I don't expect to play it at all if its anything like WoW was. Even tried going in the Arena? Its so serious in there its not funny. Sucks the fun out of everything.
After years of online play in various competitive game I've grown utterly sick of competition. And people look at it like the whole thing is good. Well, lets just say I don't agree with that. Competition is bad, and ruined my fun in too many games. I'd play PvP casually, but I won't have fun, I just know it. I have not had fun online VS players in a long time, nevermind extremely rare exceptions.
Very much looking forward to PvP - didn't think I would like it at first, but after trying it was a lot of fun. I think the competition within that section will be a great motivator as well. Finding or making new equipment for my PvP character will be exciting, knowing that it's going to help me in my next match.

The matches are much shorter than WoW and tend to take on a more casual feel. Since there are successive rounds, you're not sitting in queue between single matches stressing out about what went wrong the last match. Not every move is so calculated or requires a significant investment of time like in Sc2 or DotA... that's where emotions can really come out. Because the matches are faster paced, you're not going to feel like you're making huge critical decisions at every step, which also takes a lot of the stress out of it too. It's really got this low pressure, but fast paced and fun feel to it. I think it will appeal to a much broader audience of players.
I won't PvP as much until I have a decent gear. Probably the first few months will go into farming, and trying to get lvl 15 gems as quick as possible. And at that point I'll shift towards more PvP.
If your not in it to win it then dont PVP. who likes letting their character die?

A Post Concerning The Real-Money Auction House:
"Except real money trading has always been present in Diablo 2. Except now it's going to be officially supported which will reduce scams, prevent the funding of the black market so your kids will no longer be exposed to dangerous life ruining drugs like the cancer causing marijuana."
Im in the boat of just casual pvp, mostly with friends. However we're going to have to see how the dueling scene develops before i decide if im gonna make a it a goal to become awesome at it.

Pretty much exactly how I plan on playing PvP. I could defnitely end up doing more of it than I expect though. I can get pretty competitive in games like this, and it will be something to really tune/gear your character for once you've done bosses multiple times. I'll probably have two of every class I enjoy, one for PvP and one for PvE, but the PvP ones would be made considerably later. It also is very dependent on what the other end game options are, but based on what we know now, thats my plan.
I am really looking forward to D3's pvp, basically for all the reasons Apoc listed. Plus you won't have people running around holy spec healing people for ages, hell yes.
I also can't wait to see all the different skill combos used with different runes and what not, I'm hoping that there will be a lot of useful variety in pvp.
Will I take it seriously? Nah, more like between casual and borderline serious. I'll be focusing more on the pve when it first comes out. But afterwards once I have some decent gear I will definitely be pvping hardcore mainez!
I'm in for full dedication to pvp after some months of storyplay/farming/getting rich
Though trading for the best items gonna be a big part to reach the aim of getting an ultimate pvp machine ^^
I want to play the story first not really having to focus on crafting a "PvP build" and just worrying about what I need to survive the next area. As soon as I get familar, then I'll bust some ass in PvP
I'll play through the story in detail 3 times. Normal, nightmare, and hell. After that, all PvP and anything I can do to improve my PvP. I will cry tears of joy when I see an organized competitive PvP scene in D3.
I don't think I'll play it much. I've never been really into multiplayer, but co-op play with Diablo is something I didn't knock before I tried it and I liked it thoroughly, so I'll check it out.
It all depends on my first impression with it. If it's something I think I'll like, then I'll keep playing. I hope that's how it'll play out, but if it wears on me like CoD online play does, then I'll probably abandon it.

Same.
Every competitive game I've played I've played it casually. I win and lose, I have fun doing it, life moves on.
