this may just be me but I like crazy/weird achievements. Like squish 1,000 critters. Not that anybody would purposely go around to accomplish this but they would eventually just by playing the game. Then it pops up, "You've destroyed the lives of 1,000 innocent critters"

yeah, I don't mind grindy achievements as long as they are accomplished through normal gameplay. But I prefer weird/obscure ones that you never would have thought of completing or that would even be an accomplishment.

Yes, I am a nerd. Imagine an accomplishment that would take years to earn. I mean, I think all of us here plan on playing D3 for years so it wouldn't be a problem but it would be cool if three years after you started playing, you were still earning achievements.

Definitely. I wouldn't mind it either, but if they want to avoid "grindiness" completely I'm not complaining. I just don't see how they could while still having a lot of achievements.
Exactly. It is nothing you will try to accomplish, you will simply get it. It is a proof of how nerdy you are
I don't know if the majority of players see achievements as a "passive goal". If you put stuff like kill 1.000 critter theres will be people steping on critters all day long and qqing "this achievy is so unfun.. i hate it".
I don't like hidden achievements. From what I know, the grindy achievements in WoW didn't really hurt anyone. There will always be people OCD over them but I am one of those people and I don't mind. I'll just be *squish* *squish* *squish* "This is boring" *goes back to playing the game normally*.
I also hate collectors edition achievements and any achievements that a normal player who got the normal version of the game (blizzcon pets, etc.) wouldn't be able to get.
"Yell 'Help me!' 1337 times in a single Baal run" - 10 achievement points (Disclaimer: this is NOT an example of a fun achievement that I am discribing below)
On topic, I really like pointless achievements that get the players to do something they wouldn't normally do. Like in WoW there is an achievement where you have to land on 10 consecutive mines or something. I agree that most, if not all, achievements should be account based rather than seperate for each character. To be honest, having to redo achievements in WoW really discouraged me from making new characters(especially because some of the achievements can't be achieved anymore)
I'm really surprised how much feed back I've gotten from you guys! Keep up the good work!
PS. "???" achievements wouldn't be to bad...it gives the player something to find on their own without being told what to do for a specific achievement. The one in Call of Duty Black Ops was a challenge =p
What do you guys think about achievement rewards? Should we get titles? Gear? Or how about crazy talismans/runes, like "You cannot die from falling" or "on hit, 1/1000 chance of casting 1000 cute bunnies." Then you can get an achievement for killing 100 bunnies in 10 seconds or something.
Just ideas. Too much coffee ideas.

Well it would be cool if certain achievements alter the way you look...like your hair, are armour. Another thing i was thinking about was character particle effects? like in team fortress 2? different hats give unique particle effect such as skulls are green mist.
Who knows all the achievements could be hidden before you unlock them and All i was saying is getting a new dye from an achievement would be a reasonable reward. "Maybe a rainbow dye :)"
Bash actually commented about some achievements having actual rewards. No gear or anything like that though. His example was something like "if you beat the game with wd then all other wd you create would get an extra +1 trait point" or something like that. But that was his own personal idea and not what was in the game.

i thought achievements didnt give rewards, thought they were just a list of improbable tasks that u can complete when you get bored.
