Will items dropped by a monster, be equipped to said monster, prior to his merciless slaying? I can't see it happening with charms and class specific items, but what about armor and weapons.
More than anything I feel it's pointless. I wouldn't mind item drop variation between types of monsters, but otherwise the way Diablo is, logical loot doesn't really make sense in it. I prefer to look at DnD as an example of proper loot dropping and while there's nothing wrong with it it works really badly for a game where loot IS the game.
I think i have to agree with you on not including this feature. I played titan quest too and never liked seeing a lowly satyr decked out in unique gear. But back to D3 what about a random spawn equipped with an entire set.... could be cool. May be a set that we don't even want though, but a tough fun battle none the least
I think it would be cool to have some kind of system where if the guy has a chance to drop a really cool item, he is shown wearing cool armor, but I don't think that monsters should only drop what they are shown wearing. Also, seeing as armor looks different on every class, it would be weird to show a monster wearing armor as it appears on the barb, and then when you pick it up it looks different.
Overall, I think seeing that a mob is a Champion, Unique, or some other type of stronger monster is enough to get you to expect to get some gear from it.
Could make more sense as a means to farm certain crafting materials that for instance have a higher drop rate from these types of monsters. For armor and weapons I think it would ruin the fun unless it was very very subtle.
I'm all for it on bosses, though. Just saying. It would be sweet to wear a miniature version of a bosses armor.
I think it can be done as long as it is not too strong. Maybe they can be used in quests or as reagents in recipes that the Artisan uses to craft better gear. Then those items can be of use for new or untwinked characters that are having bad luck at finding and still can be useful to other players as an item needed for a recipe.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
I remember a similar thread from like a year back. I like the drops to be random but like some said, maybe if the monster is a caster it could have a higher chance of dropping caster items.
Not too fond of that idea. I feel it only works well in certain types of games (Oblivion being a good example of this), but in a game where you are constantly getting better gear, and seeing as that gear may be of a much greater value than the gear of, let's say, a Fallen Beserker, it does seem kind of... pointless.
Plus, it's not like Oblivion where you search a body. All the loot is going to drop. If you wipe out a room, it's just gonna be full of crap, which some may find annoying.
I'd rather have it be "what can this kind of monster not drop" (like Daanland said above). A ghost or spectral monster should not be able to drop chain mail. A decked out Doom Knight should definitely drop this kind of armor 5% of the time, little stuff like that.
Also, just dropping all that crap kind of undermines the in game economy. In a room full of armor you don't want, almost worthless in comparison with the unique armor you're wearing, is it even worth anything beside the price tag associated with it?
All in all, bad idea. I don't like it.

I hate the way you cling to ignorance and pass it off as innocence
yeah, that's the problem with this game......you slip one millimetre in the design of the game, and it's gonna get exploited to death. give one area a slight edge in drops or whatever, and everyone's gonna grind it 'till the wheels fall off. damn power gamers....
Well it's going to take longer due to no waypoints and tps. And also no bots. which will change the whole economy.
I too search for some whiteys and I always pick up ethereals/socketed items or whatever in the hope of them being good.
The other thing about this business of a whole room filled with whites is that if gold is going to be set up to be actually VALUABLE and a viable currency for player to player transactions then that room filled with whites ripe for selling is gonna get valuable really.
EDIT: My opinion is that this mechanic is definitely NOT viable for a Diablo game.

"A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."
In Diablo III however, I think we'll be scavenging all the whites and even cracked stuff for crafting materials, so I don't think such a problem exists.
I hope so. DIII had way too much thrash. Especially in the blue item department. You wanted to pick SOME stuff up but not everything...
The amount of trash never really bothered me. It was only really noticeable when using the /players 8 command when going solo (as it reduced chance of no item dropping).
I would be in favor of it if it is done right. "Skeleton archers have a 10% increased chance of dropping a bow". Maybe even tie it in to the achievements somehow.
This way if you are looking for a bow or another class of item you have some idea of where to look. Elite and rare items should still all be random.
Besides, if we're able to play on /players 4 (if such a command even exists) solo on Hell without really good gear, I think the game is too easy to play. I know Diablo II was too easy, at least.
Yeah, I forget sometimes that players 8 is the normal difficulty for me... sometimes I struggle in Nightmare a bit and I wonder why am I struggling, it's just Nightmare. Then I remember I'm on /p 8.
The game should be waaaaaaaaaaay too hard on /p 4 and overall that option shouldn't be available to discourage the slow-poke-but-really-fast-leveling thing I do to adjust from /p 1 to /p 8... because, theoretically, that'll always be possible.
Gonna be honest, the whole "monster drops weapon it was using" idea is over rated. Unless you happen to be a super killer beast, if you get "lucky" and find a monster with a high level weapon and you're just totally screwed. It happened sometimes in Borderlands sometimes. You'd hit a group of badasses, and one of them has one of the select super weapons, and you die in 3 seconds. It sucked something aweful.
That said, the idea of different monster types dropping different types of weapons (aka spellcasters dropping caster gear, archers dropping bow, etc) is awesome.

Not to make my first post an objection, but I don't feel this is very "Diablo". The predictability of getting a certain weapon from a certain type of monster is much more WoW than Diablo, and not a feature I personally would like I see make it's way into Diablo 3. When a rare item drops from a regular mob, it's like getting a Christmas gift in July

Yes, great first post hum. First post is a comparison with the "dreaded WoW".
Just die already. WoW isn't the exception here, Diablo is, they did it because its lazy and easy, and when all monsters can just drop any items of X levels, it means farming becomes easier and boring, and people can just keep doing the same thing and killing the same stuff.
It can stay that way a bit but people needs more reasons to kill different types of monsters, and seriously is there anything wrong with the possiblity of setting a GOAL for yourself, to get X kind of items yourself instead of relying on trades?
But lets just keep thing as dumbed down as possible just because its more Diablo-like and less WoW-like.

After a point, nobody cares about the whities, and I'm not sure why "cracked" stuff even exists.
Cracked items are there to piss you off by giving you a piece of crap over the same item of a different quality.
Also, has anyone ever gotten a "cracked sash"? What bullshit, cloth can't crack. Tear, yeah, but it's not gonna "crack".
