Forgive me if I have missed a tid bit of info on HC PVP but I was just wondering...Can we loot the corpses of our victims in the land of Hardcore? I mean...It makes sense right? THEY certainly will not be needing the gear since...you know...they're dead n all. So I think it's only fair that in reward for besting someone in a death match in it's truest fashion that we get the spoils of war from their corpses. As opposed to just an ear.

The poll doesn't really have to do with the loot though and it's not in the OP. But since you commented, we don't know whether we can or not huh? Interesting...I think....I think I won't play HC PVP if I'm not able to take their gear.

There's 2 polls. The 2nd one is "Allow looting in Arena?".
=o
But yes, I do hope you can. Otherwise the gear is just gone. Whats the point of that?

How would they implement that? Think about it - if it's a 3v3 and someone dies, do you really want all the gear to pop out in the middle of the battle? That would be really distracting. I can see this working in 1v1, but otherwise I'm not sure how they would address that.
Why would the gear pop out? Who said anything about gear flying everywhere? You LOOT the corpse. AKA, go click on it and get the gear. And if it's a 3v3 it wouldn't be very hard to spread the wealth evenly.

Instead of looting corpse, players should get Hardcore Points which they can use to earn special rewards or temporary modifiers such as +50 magic find for 1 hour, or a random roll in a drop as if you killed a rare monster or something that doesn't increases your base stats.
To me, looting a corpse in battle would be a distraction if you have other players out there and also, will you have the room space to loot it?
Additionally, if you kill a monster does all of it's gear drop? No, and I understand that players and mobs are different but generally when you kill something it doesn't drop everything.

Why is everyone assuming you have to stop what your doing and loot? Think outside of the box people. It would be verryy easy to wait until the end of the round, walk over, and loot. As simple as that.
This isn't killing a random mob. This is a match to the DEATH. From whence you cannot return. The reward should match the thrilling risk. I don't want some silly pvp points. I want to kill them, and then take the shoes off of their feet!

And if it's a 3v3 it wouldn't be very hard to spread the wealth evenly.
So again I ask, how would they implement that? Some type of master loot scenario? What if you're with strangers, then random? The concentration of wealth is pretty huge, I think people would get impatient if they had to sit through a roll for each item slot per dead player, and what about inventory? Besides, the loot distribution mechanism for PvM has already been implemented as exclusive generation of drops for each player. They can't really apply how that works to PvP because the loot would fixed not generated, which requires the game knowing before death what everyone has equipped, etc. It's not impossible to implement (WoW has gone leaps and bounds with loot distribution) but because it's so different than the PvM aspect, that's probably why we haven't really heard much official word about this. And we all know they've already said they were going to focus on PvM design, putting this further down the list unfortunately.
Last time they talked about PvP they said you can't gain game-relevant rewards like XP and gear. They've been very clear that such things can't be earned through PvP. Instead it will be titles, ranks etc. Also we know you can't loot friendly corpses in HC PvE. So even if they were just talking about SC PvP at the time, adding HC loot would be a strange deviation from everything. And as already mentioned, BoE, which you expect competitive pvpers to have anyway.
Source? Apparently you know something some of the news staff does not.

I'll admit this is open to interpretation. So I'll revise to "probably won't have looting." Trusting other players with your gear is just plain problematic in the sense that Blizzard doesn't trust them to divide up drops fairly anymore either, and Blizzard is so focused on the "public" experience over private. Plus there's no other reason for a player corpse object to have server presence anymore since corpse runs and corpse skills are gone. Plus again, BoE.
To me that has nothing to do with looting a corpse in HC PVP but has everything to do with clarifying that once you die in HC YOU(the person who just died) can never recover any of that gear. It says nothing about whether or not an enemy pvper can yank the gear.

I never claimed there was any official statement that PvP HC did not let you loot your enemy. I am arguing that it would be very out of step with no PvE HC looting, and no xp/item rewards in SC PvP (although really he just said "PvP" when talking about no gear/xp rewards, with no differentiation between the modes.)
If it needs to be made clear why it's out of step:
"THEY certainly will not be needing the gear since...you know...they're dead n all."
This line of reasoning ought to apply equally to friendly looting. So if this logic couldn't convince blizz to keep friendly looting, why would they follow it for enemy looting? On the converse, perhaps losing your items to the void is the point, much like losing your levels and experience is a harsh punishment to add that edge of excitement.
Also as for the "could it unbind BoE items?" thought, if you can control your opponents somehow then this method could be abused to move or sell BoE items off of unwanted characters.
You'll learn many of the fundamentals of PvP (like how to avoid attacks or target specific foes) by playing the single-player game, but PvP differs in that it isn't an ideal venue for gathering new weapons and armor. Your rewards for shedding blood in the arena are purer than that: bragging rights, the joy of sending friends old and new to their swift and inglorious deaths, and points that represent how far you've progressed on the path to fame and glory.
From D3 website. Or you can look at the news post here, "The battle arena will not be a place to collect armor and weapons."
There is no way to argue that looting HC enemies is anything less than an significant venue for gathering the very best weapons and armor, which people will naturally bring to pvp competition in a way that a bosses drop RNG will not. I think there is a way to interpet the quote as not ruling out this idea, by assuming it refers to SC PvP, since HC PvP is going to be a very small niche. But if you take it at face value, there it is.
That page (and news post) is most likely about SC PvP, not necessarily HC.
You could say that, which is what I just did. How easily it applies to Blizzard's words and not my own....
for the record
- No friendly looting in HC (basis: "you don't get your items back")
- No gear rewards in SC PvP (basis: Blizzcon and D3 site)
- decent high level items being Bind on Equip anyway, and potential abuses being introduced if they unbound
=
PROBABLY no HC looting of enemies in PvP. Blizzard never came out and said it, but it just sits poorly with what we DO know.
AUnbinding and dropping BoE equipment when you die in HC can't be abused. Unless you tell me a way, then I will of course change my mind.
You have the Uber Hat of Leet which is bind on equip, but you're getting bored with your monk. The hat would be as good for your barbarian. You arrange your friend to kill your monk so that he gives you the hat for your barbarian.
Or then you could trade bind on equip items by dying in a duel and thus moving the items onwards and getting gold in return.
Just to name two possibilities.
Or a third possibility could be that since its bind on equip that when that character dies the item just gets destroyed.
I could see that one too.
Ha, They will never get my Uber Hat of Leet! *insert evil laugh*

I'm strongly against this idea. The reason is, if you allow PvP "points" then you're off down the slippery slope that ends up with arena gear sets, PvP specific rewards, etc. Which is one of the many reasons WoW is so annoying.
If that doesn't convince you, well, Blizzard has stated very definitively that there will be no specific reward system for PvP when it comes to gear/items.
