Right, and for the sake of discussion it's entirely possible they had a different name for the project and are now calling it Titan based on that "fake leak" Boy that would really be crafty.
So while that confirms their next-gen MMO is codenamed 'Titan', it does not in the least bit confirm that the slate has any sort of legitimacy.
So you're saying someone made up that slate just to leak a project codename? How else would they get the codename?
It is no proof, but it does increase the implausibility of alternative explanations. There's already some early HotS cinematic leaks floating around, I'd say Blizzard having some holes is more likely than them adopting the codename of a "fake" slate.
Of course they do, but that's why the "leak" is two layers of stupidity. Even if it was an internal schedule (which it never was - it's just a decent job of guesswork, probably involving a second-hand connection), it still would have zero relationship with when things are released, or even whether or not they're canceled.
The beta for Diablo III will probably just be PvP balancing, or giving just the first act of the game, so that it is smoothed out for new players. Which gives them six months in between to finish everything else while the beta is running. So I expect the beta to be announced in February at Blizzard's Q4 2010 Financial Results Conference, and maybe beginning sometime in March. I have a hard time believing that Battle.net for Diablo III is ready. But its been quite some time since BlizzCon, so who knows how much the development team has cranked out since then.
March: Beta start
6 months later...
September: Beta end
Nearly a month off in between, like StarCraft II had.
October: Official release, barely placing it in Quarter 4, which matches the alleged Product Slate.
Well the beta will probably be for things like problems with skill animations and the like, as they can give us full access to those without giving much away. It'll probably also be to look for things like screen tearing and problems the game might have with certain computers. Theres only so much they can have us test without giving away the storyline unfortunately.
And if the Financial Results Conference includes a D3 Beta announcement (which isn't entirely out of the question considering they announced the SC2 Beta in one) that would actually be the best thing ever.
Still better than most car companies haha. Not to mention how much Apple's went down because of Steve Jobs' leave of absence. And its really just because they haven't had a release in a while. Game stocks in general peak whenever theres a release (obviously) and die off after. So it was only that high because of Black Ops, and now thats fading off. Once they have a big name release again, it'll go up.
Alas, we're not gonna get a beta announcement. I doubt it greatly. We will however know much more whether the plan is to release DIII this year or not. If they will mention it as this year's release, then it's obvious; and if they won't, we might not get it in 2011.
Yea yea you pessimist.
And if they don't say anything about what's being released this year for Blizzard, then its still up in the air. I just hope they don't announce something else as this year's release. That would be awful.
Actually it fell over 3x as much (>6% vs >2%). And much of the sagging tech indices were due to the Steve Jobs news. The jewel thing was a joke, obviously, but the news about musical chairs with the CoD franchise is a little more serious.
Well Diablo III's beta has to start sometime this winter if they want to get it out before 2011 is over. Once the beta begins, that's all I need. I consider that release enough.
I searched for Titan and found this thread. I wanted to continue it in an appropriate place. A lot of speculation is all we have. And I would like to give my 2 cents. Not only as a hopeful pipe dream, but as an official declaration. I want credit for my thoughts if I turn out to be right. hahah
Project Titan: Supposed to be SciFi, Historical, Post-Apocalyptical setting.
- "In the past Kaplan, who revealed he is involved in the project, was asked if the game's genre would be science fiction, post-apocalyptic, or historical, and while laughing he responded: "all of those combined!"
- "There are many others ideas that Blizzard has started and have never seen the light of day. 12 years ago, Blizzard was developing a game that called Nomad. Nomad was a group-based Sci-Fi that was worked on for several years by Blizzard. However, near the same time WoW was being conceptualized. After looking at both games, Blizzard decided to abandon Nomad for the, now popular, WoW. However, this means that there was still plenty of work that was done on Nomad before the game was removed. While no information was or has ever really been given about the game, at the 2009 Austin Game Developer Conference, some concept art from the game was shared."
Maybe resurrecting this cancelled game?
Anyway, my idea was, maybe this next gen mmo code named Titan is about the moon, Titan, which orbits Saturn. Titan is said to theoretically plausible conditions for life.
- "Scientists believe that the atmosphere of early Earth was similar in composition to the current atmosphere on Titan, with the important exception of a lack of water vapor on Titan."
- "It has also been suggested that life could exist in the lakes of liquid methane on Titan, just as organisms on Earth live in water. Such creatures would inhale H2 in place of O2, react it with acetylene instead of glucose, and exhale methane instead of carbon dioxide."
Anyway, maybe in the future, we've colonized Titan. And this is based around that moon. What the hell do i know though. I was bored at work today, so I thought of this.

Nice Speculation. I bet they will have a teaser for Titan at the next Blizzcon.

Blizzard next gen MMO

The "leak" is BS on many levels.
It looked awesome though, would've loved to get my hands on it legit or not lol.

February? That's a little, uh, optimistic for said announcement.

Investors were probably hoping for more from the jewel system.
