This development team was able to create a 3d hack & slash rpg without making it look cartoony and cheesy.. The characters look like genuine badasses who can actually slay monsters, and the monsters actually look intimidating. This is exactly what I imagine when I think of Diablo 3 in my head, moreso than the Diablo 3 I know will be coming out.
This will probably get locked, but as someone who has been playing the diablo series since 1996 (I'm 21 now btw, so I've been playing this franchise for most of my life), I feel very let down in the fact that the new installment of the series seems to have been somewhat "commercialized", by making it look much more juvenile and watered down than the previous two.
I mean just look at this company's 3d models vs. blizzard's for d3. The fallen shaman is a shining example of this, he looks like a little bitch.. Like a damn cartoon, or a joke or something. Why can't the development team just make it dark, badass, gory, scary, dreary, and geared towards a MATURE audience? It can obviously be done, and now that I've seen it..
I feel like...Diablo 3 looks like Diablo 3. Idk, maybe it's me.

that game looks terrible. besides the fact that it's obviously a huge rip from diablo II, the graphics don't appeal to me at all. i'm honestly extremely happy with how diablo III is looking so far.
@Don_G You are absolutely correct. I've loved hack and slashes for a long while now, and this just looks bland. For all of you kiddies who think this is the most amazing stuff... then go play it! Seriously, if the current iteration of Diablo 3 doesn't pique your interests, then off with ye.
I, for one, love the art direction, the skill types, the character archetypes, and (dare I say it) even the integration of Battle.net. If it's "Not enough like Diablo II", people should speak with their wallet, and play Diablo II (or its, in my honest opinion, cheap knockoffs) and not Diablo III.

Oh come on Maka, what else would those people do, go to forums and complain about the game? What good will complaining get you? Blizzard to make another funny shirt that mocks art direction QQers?
Seriously, if someone doesn't like something, play a game like this, don't buy Diablo 3. If you buy the game, Blizzard will have your money, and believe they did a good job because they accomplished their goal, for you to buy it. If you don't buy the game, you're saying, "I don't like this product, or the decisions that the staff made regarding the product, and therefore I will not further the business that I do not agree with." That's how you speak with your wallet.

I don't like how that game looks at all. It looks like Titan Quest with low resolution textures, or DS or something. The animations are patchy, as well. They have very serious graphical problems going on there that they need to resolve first.
and don_G....seriously? you're gonna counter gameplay footage with concept art? a bit dishonest, no?
Well if you take a look at the gameplay footage in that dungeon, Leoric's Hall of Agony or something, which is where parts of the 2010 demo took place, it looks pretty much the exact same.
That video was bland and boring. I'm hoping that it's without full lighting and whatnot. Everything looks dully phonged and boring. Staring at shades of gray and brown is NOT fun, that's why I played Diablo 2 and why I'll play Diablo 3. Grim Dawn looks better than this, and I've only seen one alpha video of that. (Grim Dawn, by the way, is made by the people who made Titan Quest. Good stuff should be had there! )

When I saw that video, nothing spectacular jumped out at me. The colors seemed bland and dull. I saw the same spells and simple attacks being used over and over again.
The only thing I liked (which I think I understand after watching it three times now) was the Final Fantasy X-based skill grid system. It looked interesting... but I really can't say one way or the other when talking about the skill trees versus the skill grid. If that grid is what I think it is, then every character has the potential to be exactly the same as every other character (different "archetypes included"). If I wanted to take my warrior into the archer field, and vice versa, then the only difference between the two characters is the way they look. I don't like that.

Indeed, that was the only interesting bit that popped out at me. Not to say that I don't like the D3 system, but I did like the Sphere Grid system of FFX, and would not mind seeing it in other games. Whether it's a fit for D3 though, I don't know.
Other than that, I agree with most assertions here. Now we are obviously not going to represent a median Diablo fan, since most people who really dislike the art design in D3 have probably lost faith in the game by now. Whether one likes this style or not though, I think Blizzard will come out on top in terms of game design: making things discernable, clearly distinguishing monster from player and background, visible skills that are easily discernable... In terms of gameplay, Blizzard's art style is probably superior regardless of whether you like their art or not.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I saw a comment on the youtube page, some guy saying how he thinks Diablo 3 looks too much like WoW, but he's all for the way Torchlight looks, apparently. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
The game looks like everywhere you go its surrounded in grey. Its like dull and not colorful at all. Also it looks kinda idk like it would be boring and hard to look at. lol

I didn't think the game looked that bad actually. But then I'm pretty satisfied with the color palette of the first Diablo which is quite dreary and gray.
The 'feel' of D3 gets darker and darker as you progress through the game ( go further into the depths of hell). Anyone who thinks that D3 is too colorful and bright needs to look at the blizcon 2010 videos of the demonhunter ripping it up in the dungeons. The vibe in those dungeons was very dark and diablo'ish.
Its the same with Diablo2. Its like if you were to look at a screenshot of blood moore. There is not a single scary or dark looking thing about that place. But then look at the River of Flame or the barracks and suddenly things are very different.
For the record, I wasn't referring to the scenery or gameplay. D3's dungeons and scenery are very impressive, I just strongly dislike the way the characters and enemies are modeled.
Compare ANY monster from d3 to any monster in d2 and tell me you don't see a striking difference.. Even down to the simple zombie. In d2, they looked like rotting flesh. In d3, we have blue humanoid things that, quite frankly, look stupid.
If you need any more examples, fire up d2 and go run through the durance of hate real quick. I need pits of blood with mutilated corpses piled up in them, dismembered bodies all over the place, bodies on fire, etc., and then monsters that actually look capable of doing this. I'm sorry, but I haven't seen anything in d3 that comes close to conveying that sense of evil. They all look like dumb fucking WoW creatures; like, let's go slay some murlocs dudes! It's gonna RULE!
I'm not going to pass judgment until I've actually played the finished game, because stylistically I'm sure things will still change. But it does feel like kind of a "fuck you" to the VERY loyal fanbase that has amassed around this franchise over the last 15 years.. It's like they changed (almost) everything I loved about these games instead of taking what has already proven to work very well and expanding on it. Actually, no, it's even worse.. It feels like they took my favorite game ever and merged it with something so incomprehensibly lame that it literally makes me want to cry.

Oh and Diablo 3 looks 10 times better than this in all aspects. And for the last fucking time, Diablo 3's graphics are not cartoonish jesus christ.

This looks like shit. Period. D3's graphics are not stellar but at least they got style and are actual art.
That video is an example of absolutely soulless graphic direction.
