okay, so the level cap is 60. that should be 60 skill points and 30 trait points. the skill cap is 7 with a max of 5 points per skill 7x5=35 60-35=25 so there's 25 skill points just floating around? i know they've said you will be able to add more skill points. but 25 worth? anyone else see a problem here?
So if we are getting one skill pt per level thats 60pts. With seven skills maxing at 5 thats 35 pts needed. I think it is clear to say that we will not be getting one point per level. I think it is possible that we will get one in alternating levels with trait points. So that means we have 30pts. with a max of 35 needed. so we are short 5pts. I think this is intentionally in that you should not have all seven of your skills maxed out just like D2 was. You choose the ones that are the most important for your build and max those out. Then you get some extra skills to help round out your character.

that's kind of what i was thinking/hoping otherwise that would not make any sense at all.
I'm pretty sure I read that the cap of 5 is only for Normal. Once you get to Nightmare it goes to 10 and in hell it goes to 15. So that means 7x15 for 105 points to max out all 7 skills, so you'll have to pick and choose.
Well as I understand it, you unlock skill slots until you have 7 (which Bashiok said should be around the end of Normal), and then as you play again on the higher difficulties, you are able to put more points in those skills (up to 5 during normal, 10 during nightmare, and 15 during hell)
now it makes more sense .. so into hell we now have 7 X 15 = 105 .... 105 - 60 = 45* ... so now we know we really have to be picky and choosy. At best we have something like this?
Also, While I know for a fact that there is a increase in level in the skills from five. I have never heard anything about the 5-normal, 10-nightmare, and 15-hell. with that =105 pts and us only getting 60, that just seems too high.

Bashiok: Did we not already talk about that? Think we did. Like the cap raises another five every difficulty level? So when you reach hell difficulty the caps would be at 15? No? Did we not say that at the last BlizzCon? Think we did.
And how the skill system works is that at certain levels you unlock the ability to use certain skills, and right then you can put points into it. You get a point a level, and a trait point every other level. At around the end of normal you have the ability to have 7 skills, but you continue unlocking skills.
Actually I think that you can have more than 7 skills. It's just that you will only be able to put 7 in your bar.
7 skills = 35 points, so it's pretty obvious that with 60 levels you'll be able to spend your points in more than 7 skills.
The limit of points in one skill will probably increase with difficulty, of by other means, so it may be 10 or 15 in hell, giving you enough place to invest your skill points

No.
There's nothing obvious in your post.
You can spend points on 7 skills. Each character choose 7 skills. Thats it.

If it was a restriction on the number of skills you could have on your bar and not how many skills you could have period, it would kind of defeat the purpose, since you could easily swap skills out. I'm having trouble finding it right now, but I've seen an image of the skill UI someplace, and there are basically 7 skill slots off to the left of the "tree" that you can fill with skills. Once you've put a skill in, you can only remove it by respeccing. So you're really only allowed 7 skills. Not just 7 on your bar at once.

That's only part of the picture. Not all skills are maxed at rank 5 (lower tiered skills have more ranks to be viable on the end-game i think - but i can't find a link right now to confirm) and only every other level we'll be getting skill points - meaning we only get 29-30 skill points without knowing if we get more from quests.
That said we'll have to choose what we decide to use to make the perfect build.
No, they've said that trait points are gained every other level, skill points every level. This makes for 59 points + quest skill rewards (which I don't think are confirmed, but seem likely). This is what led Bluestorm to assume that we could have more than 7 skills. I think the more likely scenario is that we'll be looking at a skill cap of 15-20 points, which would allow for more build variance and require meaningful decisions for point placement, since you won't be able to max all 7 of your skills.

(skill 1) (skill 2) (skill 3) (skill 4) (skill 5) (skill 6) (skill 7)
15/15 15/15 10/15 5/15 5/15 5/15 5/15
I'm sure we can spread that out more .. but there would most likely be maxed out areas that we use most.
is this right?

Bashiok did say this at one point, but then later went back and said he was mistaken.

no we wont! we'll get 1 skill point and one trait level in turns. at least that's the impression i got from what they said in Blizzcon.
