Had one 20 minute session with Diablo III this morning and here are some thoughts:
1. Blizzcon was HUGELY more crowded than last year. So much so that I did not want to wait in the ridiculously huge line to play again which shocked even me
2. The "feel" of the game is perfect. It feels much like a really upgraded Diablo II which is all I think we want
3. Graphics and UI are top notch...they are super polished and clean. Tons of effects. Graphic color bloom seems to have been turned down a notch. I think some will be really excited about this
4. It is very very fun and addictive
5. It seems "done". They are definitely in a beta stage of the game not alpha. The games seems to be itemized, which they always said was one of the last things to be done before it shipped
6. Diablo III seems slightly faster paced from an action standpoint and there are more monsters
7. The monster type limit that Diablo II had is gone. There were at least 8 different monster archetypes in the starting Dungeon you could play
8. In the first dungeon there were champion groups, uncommon "blue" groups of monsters, yellow "rare" named random bosses, purple unique monsters and bosses
9. Loot drops seem to have been tweaked to help with balance. Drop rates from trash mobs seemed lower-they dropped loot but not often. The yellow and purple boss types dropped a lot of loot
Awesome! Thanks for the post! Glad to get coverage from those able to get a chance to play.

This is great news ... i hope we get to see open beta soon.
Beta worries me though. I wanna play and help the game. But i dont wanna know story stuff. Id rather wait till game release to get into that.
Anyway like the reply. Glad to hear that everything is great.
we shouldn't be too hopeful of the development stage (as in beta etc) because of the demo. the demos are always tweaked and installed on extremely strong computers.
we got other reasons:
-the game systems appear to be done.
-we know now that the Demon Hunter was one of the first characters they came up with so that's almost done too.
-itemization is progressing as they said it would if they were finishing things up.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
Notice that they only showed us around six of her skills, the male version isn't finished, and the Monk only added that bell attack. If they had more to show, they'd have showed more.
Maybe they can finish it off in a year tho - would definitely be nice.
Unless they really and I mean REALLY tweaked the difficulty in multiplayer games or the increase of difficulty was absent from last years demo then you can solo just fine. More often then not I found myself leaving my party of random people and going alone because they seemed clueless as to what they were even playing. This is Diablo, youll be able to solo anywhere as long as you got the skill.
I'm not so sure about the health orbs either but it sounds like a lot of thought and intention went into the mechanic and I'm sure we'll all get used to and come to appreciate it.
What about the game difficulty? Is it really ''stay together or die''?
I played single player and it did seem a little harder than Diablo II, mostly because it was a little easier to get surrounded. But it was only level 9/10, and you only get one emergency potion in a bad situation. Balancing will be really hard, I suspect that Diablo III will be a very fluid and changing game from a build standpoint throughout its release life. The interesting thing is that it may be so hard to balance that they use beta mostly for bug squashing and compatibility and then continuousy tweak after release which means we may get it very quickly after content completion. I really think there is a good chance we see it released end of June.

You know after watching like 20 minutes of that Demon Hunter gameplay video, does she ever use just her regular weapon? I didn't see her take any damage at all. And all those effects from all the spells are so busy that it just created a blurring effect. I found myself just rubbing my eyes a lot cause there was so much happening on the screen. There's nothing minimalist about it anymore.

I was also worried about all the stuff going on, but actually... When it's actually you playing the character, it's much easier to read what's going on. Also I guess as you progress, your spells will gradually get bigger and fancier, so you have time to get to know them.
In D2, team up a fire sorc and a summon necro and there's also a lot going on. We just didn't notice it that much, because we're used to it so we can read it better.
Well I know D2 gets pretty busy too. But the lighting in this game can just be so intense. More so though I was seriously if the players would ever get hit. It'd be satisfying to see more demos where shit is just so though that they are getting killed a lot.

sounds like a great game in the making, lets hope they get balance issues and skills figured out on top of that action.

Good to hear that it feels relatively done!
One more year, I hope, before release!!

This is considered soon? Nearly a year and it's "soon"? If only I could fit myself into the freezer...
