"Soon" might be sooner, rather than later. If i interpreted Bashiok's post on the official forums well that is.

Well, what can I say. World of Warcraft is huge. You can't really compare anything to it, the vast majority of people that go to BlizzCon are hardcore WoW players. We'd be silly to not cater the events and time spent on them to the people paying to attend and their primary interests.
StarCraft II, yeah, they have a lot of panels this year. Last year they had three. They just shipped a game and I think have the time to devote to creating more of them.
Again, the number of panels has nothing to do with the amount or quality of info released.
The part I highlighted i find the most interesting. So, the Blizzcon just before its release (always according to Bashiok) the Starcraft II team had the exact same amount of panels Diablo III will have this year. Can't get it out of my head that this could actually mean something. It "could" be a hint that it's going to be the last Blizzcon for Diablo III before shipping the game.
I know it's a long shot but considering how they had the Cataclysm release date in our face for quite some time before they actually announced it (for confirmation about this check here) it might aswell be the case.
Interesting? Yes. Coincidence? Hopefully not - I want to play that game soon! Also, I don't think they expected Starcraft II to be as big as it's already become so far... I mean you got HD and husky and the game station and all sorts of promotion going on - it was probably just a good idea for the company to have tons of panels for SCII. Either way, this is speculation at its best! sidenote - I guarantee that if any Diablofans user entered a speculation contest they'd win hands down.
You're not ruining it and i wouldn't have bothered if he hadn't mentioned the number of panels Starcraft II had prior to its release. It's just speculation, i don't expect it to be this way, but i can't totally dismiss it either. That's why i thought it might be a nice thing to talk about
Would be cool, but I don't think we should read into this. While I still hope and think this is the last blizzcon for D3, I don't think it has anything to do with the number of panels. D3 is an individual game from the other blizzard releases, and it's probably safe to assume the number of panels they've decided to put up, is all that's needed for a proper presentation at this time.
Furthermore, the D3 team is individual to the teams behind the other releases as well, so there's no sense in assuming they would require the same amount of time to do a presentation as the other teams did.
Crossing my fingers though.
i def agree with u and what your saying is right *fingers crossed*
Exactly, reading into the sheer number of panels is kind of silly, albeit I think he's pointing to something. After having read the description of all the panels I would assume they are ready to fire up a beta in a not so distant future, seeing how they are showing off armors etc.
i would have considered it completely unimportant myself if he hadnt mentioned Starcraft II the way he did. He could have simply said "We'll have more important important information this year for Diablo III. And as for the other franchises, they have more quantity to show right now". He chose to say what he did.
And Bashiok really may be hinting at something here
My girlfriend already gives me enough subtle hints that I often either miss completely or misinterpret, so why does Bashiok have to treat me like his bitch as well!? I just want straight answers like every other guy in the world dammit!
Either way, my heart is set on a release really really soon *crosses fingers and toes*
It's pretty far-fetched to think that 3 panels = release date or something. Not that I'm not hoping for it, but it's just a bit silly.
Bashiok's explanation is reasonable. They only have a limited number of panels and the Starcraft 2 team finally has the ability to say all they want. I hope that not all new information comes from the panels, but also from the copious amount of interviews they'll be giving.
well think of it this way he even said the amount of panels has nothing to do with the ammount of info relaesed like i said they can tell you everything or nothing in 3 hours...
Three hours is a massive amount of time. Did you ever sit through a three hour lecture? The amount of course pages that can be covered in that time is mind boggling. But as said, much will depend on their willingness to actually respond to questions. I'm confident that they didn't call it Diablo's biggest Blizzcon without any good reason though.
3 hour lecture and 3 hours for your favorite game are two entirely different things. A boring 3 hour lecture may seem like forever while 3 hours of your fave game could pass so fast that you will go all "it's over already?!" on yourself.
True, but I just mean that in three hours a massive amount of material can be covered. In fact I'm sure that if they added an other couple of hours, it would get boring. You can only say so much about an unreleased, unfinished game.
Is it a given that they'll release a game each year?
There are two indications for that:
1) It's been hinted at in interviews.
2) I don't think they'll want to release two games very close to each other.. they would steal each other's possible customers (I bought Starcraft2 just because I knew Diablo3 wouldn't be released in 2010).
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
my hopes are slightly higher, i want it to come around March 2011 with the beta starting mid-January/February. (beta keys given in this years Blizzcon too of course )

1) Not a reliable source, but good enough for me.
2) Starcraft 2 does have a release date pretty close to Cataclysm. In Blizzard terms 3 months is pretty close :). Of course, SC2 had a lot of delay.
I have a 3rd point to add:
3) We've been waiting long enough! June 08 it's been announced. SC2 was announced 2007, and released 2010. Draw your conclusions.

I'm getting cross-eyed just thinking about it.

You heard it first from ErU.
