Although I haven't seen anything officially announced by Blizzard, rumors have it that they have come up with a new monster that will appear in Act 2 of Diablo III. The Sand Golem:
When I joined the site, i wrote a blog on how if the Necro was to return in D3 and was revamped, he should have a lot more of golems. Oh ya...fantasizing about water, lightning and poison golems. We are in a fantasy world here, so the prospect of seeing that may be not be just me dreaming.
But I think every summoner player likes to have a variety of minions. The WD can summon stuff but he does not look like a real summoner.
Back in D2- I wished they gave more thought to the summoning tree of the druid. I have beaten hell with one(summoner-druid build) on SP but oh the pain! It was enjoyable but sometimes enemy situations would get overwhelming.
Now I am not sure as to whether that was your real question. I just got reminded of something and went on ranting...
I guess a sand golem could be summoned by a demon or...a corrupted necro. A bit like that Nithalak bitch.
Kind of yes, and kind of no. Nithalak was more of a CE Necro type. Not really a summoner. But, it's interesting that they would incorporate this on the other side and having it summoned by a Demon. To me it kind of shows that the Necro touches and dabbles a lot in the Darker side of his "magic".
Seeing a corrupted Necro fighting against you would actually be kind of cool, come to think of it.

Read "Moon of the Spider" by Richard A. Knaak if you haven't already...
Their culture has subsisted in the shadow of the great mage clans from the earliest days, and in most ways their practice reaches back to a time before magic was formalized into strict disciplines. Although their art is considered "dark", and the people of the outside world shun the priests who practice these arts, these mysterious cultists never suffered the epidemic of corruption that plagued the ancient mage clans. Pragmatists in the truest sense, they are above temptation.
And as far as I know in "Moon of the Spider" the only necromancer featured there is Zayl, who is not corruputed...
actually two KArybdus and zayl Zayl tries to save the world from what Karybdus and Aldric Jitan are doing. I'm in the mdidle of reading it but it seems as if Karybdus is in it to destroy Aldric and keep everything for himself.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Maybe I'm just a skeptic but...That looks nothing like any of the concept work done by the artists working on D3. The line work is a bit heavy, the shading and color is unlike that of really any of the concept stuff for D3. The background the artist used again is unlike any of the concept stuff. If this is in fact for D3 it is probably from a much earlier period in development. But to me, nothing about it really says D3. The quality just isn't as good. But who knows, I could certainly be wrong.

Corrupted Necromancers should not exist lorewise. And Nihlathak is not a necromancer (I thought you've stated in your post that he's a necro...)
On the topic: It is 100 % 'real' - it will be in the game. I notice one major difference from the Diablo 2 golems - it lacks a head... doubt that this is of any significance but at least it makes it look kind of deranged. A possibility I thought of is that it can be a unique or at least not so commonly encountered foe as the fallen.
Ya...None of that really screams official to me either. When I see it on the D3 site I'll believe it.

Will you make a concept art of something that won't make it in-game?
Who says that this was concept art from Blizzard and not just a fan created pic of a monster they would like to see? Until Blizzard announces something about it, I won't believe that it came from them.

For Moon of the Spider, the main villain is Astrogha. Karybdus isn't necessarily evil, for those of you who haven't finished reading it yet. Corrupted? Maybe, that's a border-line term for his position on things. Mistaken and making a huge, obvious mistake? Defintely. The fact that it is such a blunt mistake on his part is what leads us to believe that he is, in fact, corrupted.
edit: read the spoiler if you want to understand where I'm coming from. It may give away the book, but I kind of dance around what happens in the book, since even at the end of it you're guessing about what is going on with Karybdus.
However he is not corrupted directly by the influence of another demon - but rather by draining the life of all the demons he has thwarted beforehand. The "Life Tap" curse, lore-wise, allows a necromancer to drain the 'life' out of a demon and kill it, but the necromancer may take after some of the traits of the demon. Karybdus had become one of the 'best' necromancers out there for taking out so many demons and keeping the Balance in... well, balance. However he had overused life tap, and taken in too many demonic entities that it is lead to believe that he has been influenced or corrupted by all of them, indirectly.

It's an interesting piece of concept art, if I do say so myself. It reminds me of the Clay Golem, the Iron Golem and the Fire Golem that are summoned by the Necromancer.
So, Seeing as how a Golem is summoned, if this new monster is real, can we expect to see the one that summons it and when?
