How come every RPG and its clone, on the face of the planet has spiders somewhere in the game?
ive seen rpgs with 2 monster types, and one was a spider.
This is soooooooooo overdone, and cliche, and, well,,,,,,,,,, I hate spiders
I get enough killing spiders in the real world I dont need it on a game
D2 had spiders in almost every act.
But you know what? I dont think ive EVER seen an rpg with a snake in it, giant snake would be awesome, is it just the animating them that is a problem? to animate their slithering bodies?.
Can we expect better things in D3? they dont have much of a bestiary yet, so im not sure what is in store.
There are only spiders in actI and actIII of diabloII, if I recall correctly. They may spawn inactV.
And I don't understand something - you're complaining about RPGs having no snakes? Last time I checked, there is a major quest in actII revovling around stopping snakes from blocking out the sun - and not to mention they also spawn in actV as well. In fact, snakes are more common in D2 as enemies then spiders are.

if thats the case sorry,
been a long time since I last played D2 I guess, I dont remember any giant snakes...
I do remember fighting endless swarms of spiders though LOL
Spiders, skeletons, undeads, so many enemies are -overdone- and -cliché- if you want to see it that way. D2 had a wide selection of monsters... it won't be different this time.

You mean something like a 30m giant snake? Yeah, can't recall a game that had that. Well, Devil May Cry 4 kind of had it, though it also had aspects of a woman and a flower. So not a straigh up snake
It would be pretty nice to face, though it would only be a new thing in video games.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
The vipers were a video game version of a snake. Snakes alone aren't very menacing, they can slither around and bite people. When the diablo team implemented snakes into the game they had to think of something to make them more powerful and dangerous so they added arms for extra abilities. People could just put normal snakes in games but snakes just aren't that scary in video games compared to big eight-legged vicious venom spitting spiders, or some minotaur guys.

I lost my mind 6 months ago, haven't gone looking for it yet.
Skip to 1.30, you'll see a 'classic' snake.
I remember seeing a gameplay footage of an RPG diablo style game that had big snakes like the one in the vid (relative to the char)...but I can't find it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0w9WX7Qbz8

There are plenty of giant rats and giant spiders in video games, while there's no such thing in real life. There IS actually a giant snake species in real life, the anaconda. Why not have us fight those? They would definately be dangerous.
And snakes are more venomous than spiders.
Also, snakes can be dangerous without being tough enemies. It depends on how dangerous poison is in the game. The snake picture I linked earlier is from Might and Magic 6, where snakes could seriously hurt you with their poison, halving your maximum hit points and spell points (=mana) while under it's effects, as well as lowering your strength, endurance, accuracy and speed statistics. Not to mention poison doesn't cure itself, and even grows steadily worse the longer it takes you to cure it until your character simply dies.
Of course, spiders, snakes, bats and rats are enemies you meet early in a game. They're not as *powerful* as minotaurs. But they can certainly be just as *dangerous*.
Ok well this whole thing.... ok dont you remember trying to kill Nath the necro in Act 5 the anoying snakes hitting you for like half dmg sometimes?...smiting you they messed you up and your merc. The thing is one you dont like spiders they know alot of people out there hate spiders my roommate cant stand them so much that he has made me not a fan of them. Thats the point your not gonna kill things that you like? you want ps3s xbox 360s and high performance comptuers as the enemy? and smash them no. You should be hhappy they give you spiders if you dont like them your gonna smash them via axe, magic, hand ect ect. to me even andy final boss in Act 1 kinda represented a spider a little bit no big worms or snkaes tho just alot of the annoying little ones in act 2 and act 5. Ethier way lots of monsters to smash and slash and watch them die in all sorts of ways and not only that see how many ways I can die from big bosses so exciteing to experiance the game as a whole Ill be spending hours just seeing what enviroment stuff I can smash up EXCITING.
Your right, I rather like snakes... be a shame to kill them, they could make a very deadly vicious enemy though.
How about centipedes ? or millipedes, or whichever the nastier one is,
I forget which is which, but one is rather cute.... in comparison any way
its the cenitpedes that can be really nasty blah ya i hate thoses too SO MANY LEGS WHY why do you NEED that many legs omg i hate to fight like a horde of them withs some scary spiders....wait that chick the anguish biaaaatch i cant remeber but shes a person you have to fight in D3 shes like a spider ant she? shes umm scary ya LOL
Snakes are rarely represented in games because they are a pain in the ass to animate properly. Most games that feature them do it in an unconvincing way, such as the pictured screenshot, and nearly always end up standing them high like a snake-man, instead of letting them crawl across the ground. A real snake can contort it's body in so many different ways depending on it's trajectory (as see in the game centipede), and typical repetitive keyframe animation is not up to handling that.

They already have the Fallen Hounds. Close enough for me.
