I don't remember having seen any discussion about merging single and battle.net characters. I'll explain.
In D2, you can play your single player character at the comfort of your home or wherever (which I mean not connected to the Internet), BUT, that character could never be played on Batlle.net in the ladder public games.
Soooo, bottom line is, will we have only one "pool" (couldn't find a better word) of characters, which we will be able to play on-line, off-line, or wherever, or is it impossible to acomplish?
I know that in D2 it was impossible, due to heavy cheating, so I wonder, any possibilities?
I think there'll always be offline save game editors, so that means that every character that is on your computer can be hacked. To prevent that you'd have make Blizz check the game each time you play, so you'll need an I-net connection each time you play. And that's something wouldn't want to see.
So I think there'll still be a separation to prevent cheating.
Good idea, especially since they haven't ladder... But like they said, it's better not to prevent cheat ... I don't know if it exist a manner to counter that... I think not because every solution need an internet check... Or maybe an offline character modification checker ? Nah, It's too risky.
Honestly, I never cheated in D2, but I found it okay if it's not online, it's okay to cheat, it's not really a big deal at all
Heres an example, you beat a game, you get bored and say "hey I'm bored I'ma cheat" you look up cheats and w/e and use them to make the game entertaining for a lil while...

Saved char on net is the best !
Any amateur could modify a few bytes in the memory and make him super powerful
Pros will create editors like those we know for D2.
The only possible way to prevent such cheating is to make sure none of it is available client side. There obviously is no other way offline...
