Does that mean that you respawn back in town when you die? The checkpoints were introduced to reduce the time you had to go through to get back into the melee. Reverting to waypoints makes that a bit redundant.
If you look at the message they say that they updated the waypoints, not that they removed the checkpoints.

The only problem I see with checkpoints is having to go back through the monsters that killed you to get your body back. Unless, they still let you get your body back when you exit and reenter a game and it's there in town.
Unless you leave the game again and have the option of starting at the last checkpoint instead.

No i think it will work liek this they have reverted waypoints back to D2... not sure what the "D3 version" was liek so it doesn't really matter to me. Yet they are keeping checkpoints so you can die and come back at the checkpoint so u dont have to run all the way across the cold plains to get to your friends by thta time they should have at least cleared most of the monsters by your body allowing you to pick it up like in D2 and continue on fighting. It the same way as it always was for D3 just now the waypoints will be d2 styled.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
So, will the checkpoint system work the same way as save points? Like in a lot of RPG's, you'll be going along and the game would save for you, and if you died anytime between that point and another save point, you'd be resurrected with everything intact? Except, possibly, your dignity.
I'm guessing they're going to have both systems. Checkpoints for inconvenient deaths and waypoints for faster travelling.

Like always, this is just a bunch of added confusion. Twitter is bad.
If they truly removed the checkpoint system, then they are shooting themselves in the foot. Whats the point of -forcing- us to walk more when they implemented this long ago to cut the walking?
But like I said, this is one sentence that could very well just means we have Waypoints like in D2, but there is more too.
In my opinion, this is not even worth speculating, so I'd just take what it says as it is and not guess anything else.
I think that both waypoints and checkpoints are going to work perfectly together. When you start the game or want to sell stuff then you use the waypoint, but most of the time you'll probably be happy with the checkpoint system in place.
Just think about it in D2: How would you like to make that trek through the Durance of Hate each time you get killed by Mephisto?
waypoint is a way to travel everywhere you have already visit.
checkpoint is only when you die.

? ok, I don't see what is checkpoint for you ?
1. You need to visit a checkpoint to respawn there, so normally you have already kill every monsters there.
2. in d3 you don't have to get your body back.
jay wilson said, long ago, that they wanted to create a greater sense of isolation from the "town", which I really liked. As in, once a hero was in the wilderness he would have to be there for sometime. Doesn't the waypoint system make the towns all too accessible?? Where's the "isolation" go?

You don't have town portal, so to travel with waypoint you need to be in a town... it is the "isolation" he talk about.
Yeah you still get the isolation part of the game even with waypoints. Really waypoints are used only for when you start a game becasue i really doubt any player would like to "re-walk" the whole act to get to the boss to kill him again, so waypoints are necessary. BUT during gameplay they become pointless unless you need to get to a completely different part of the act, so thats where the checkpoint system accels, becasue you will die and having this re-spawn like system makes game play contiunous and fun.
I think the Blizzard team are making the right decisions with the checkpoint and way point system.
What is funny though is that these are all speculations, we are still not certain what their checkpoint system really is, and how it plays into the game. Also we are jsut assuming taht the waypoint system is the same as D2 ( a logical assumption IMO, but an assumption non the less) therefore all of this info should be taken with a grain of salt, such as all the other discusions on this forum.

Check point mean check point, I never see a game with a check point system very unique. It's just mean what is say !
For waypoint we're not "assuming"... Blizzard said :
As far as I kno both checkpoint and way point will exist at the same time.
In D3 when you die you do not go back to town, you go back to the checkpoint (wich is located in places like dungeon entrances, rooms before boss fights, etc..). The function of way point is to replace the D2 death system that really would never work in D3 (since theres no TPs).
Waypoints is to allow players to travel through the world without the need of walking huge distances and they work just like D2.
i kinda like the checkpoint system and always making the game like nonstop action because you cant teleport places after you get wp and you have to fight your way thru monsters again
and on the checkpoint system lets say you got a checkpoint and then you killed a few monsters then died and restarted at last checkpoint...those few monsters you killed are still dead and i loved that so much!
and with waypoints im thinking that either they make u die and you have to get ur body but better make where you dont drop anything...or you use WP and still have checkpoint system...either way i loved the checkpoint system and wp system so not a big let down for meh
Yeah but about teleporting, im sure its going to be different than in D2, because in D2 it was super OP. So i hope that they make a huge cooldown or something else so that tele for the wizard doesnt ruin the game...
Becasue yeah you could just get the waypoint then teleport everywhere without killing the monsters, and i dont think thats what blizzard wants...so they have to consider that......hopefully....
Checkpoints seem to be a greeat idea for the action part of the game...it keeps things moving...which is ideal.

I don't see why those 2 things overlap eachother.
