What if the new class is physically something supernatural, such as half demon or half angel. That would add a lot to lore and I think it would make for a kick butt class type they can expand on.
I thought demon and angel half-breeds were the Nephalem... sorry but if you know what those are you see why that's implausible and would nullify all previous lore, important lore... actually, the lore that the game is based on... so no.
As to other races, kinda skketchy on what they'd use sorry lol.
Angels and demons are not preprogramed irrational idiots. It's not like all demons are bloodthirst bastards and all angels are close minded law freaks. Like humans they have though and make choices.
In other words, a angel that decide to help humans is 100% viable (tyreal exist you kno...) and a demon who decide to fight on human side is also possible...
They will do that? I don't think in the classic D3 because this class would be too over the top compered to the other four. In a expasion something shocking like that would make it more attractive.
Even if they decided to make a half breed, what could they call it class wise?
It would also totally work with lore. But I do agree that this idea would me really cool for an expansion.
Nephilim as described in the bible were human hybrids of fallen angels... Who is to say that the world of sanctuary does or doesn't have this and just name it something like Ephillim or something close but not exact.

The reason for this is the angels and demons won't consort with us dirty apes. Angels believe themselves so high and mighty that they can wipe out humanity without consequence. Demons believe us to be stupid animals that deserve to be cruelly tortured and killed anyway. Both sides aren't doing what they want because they soon realize that we can tip the scale in the Angel vs. Demon War.
Side note: We are allowed to swear on here, just don't do it excessively.

Silently Lurking...
"Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted." ~ Ezio Auditore de Firenze
Demons are more akin to savage animals than anything else. Read the Diablo novels and you'll understand. Those are officially accepted lore by Blizzard. Angels on the other hand are "cowardly backstabbers".
I already read the novels.
And what i'm trying to say is that people think in angels and demons as a bunch people with the exect same personality, wich is not true. Some angels are mercifull, other are authoritarians. Some demons are bloodthristy, others are cowards.
Think that a entire nation or race have a unic phylosophy and personality is wrong. If a writter do something like that in any lore cannon only means his a bad writter.
Another point is that any past lore doenst' mean anything for blizzard. They do what they want to do, even if trample past plot is necessary. See the goatman case. Before D3 they were minions of baal (it is in a official accepted lore cannon, D1 manual!). But know they changed it to fit something they want, and simple saing "D1 manual was wrong".
In other words, the game direction will not follow any rules created by writters or something.
I'm not denying the importance of the Sin War trilogy or anything.
And dude, i'm not unhappy with the development at all. I just disagree that Angels and Demons acts is so simple like a animal's ones. They are rational beigns, even through their nature and culture leads toward some kind of etos and ethics, they still make choices. And those choices is what makes a human allied angel/demon possible.
The angels are not a bunch of imperius clones and demons a bunch of diablo clones after all...
For exemple: A angel could turn into humam side because his a tyreal allied and old friend. A demom could turn in humam side because he was slaved by some demon lord allied of the greater evils and he could scape and don't want to return to Hell, slavery and punishment.
And what if a humam mage summoned a fiend and instead of treat then with cruelty treat then as a child for some twisted reason ? Yeah, the demon could simply kill him when the chance appears, but what if the demon started to like this new enviroment better then hell ? Why is that soo impossible ?
I can't find the quote, but basically they've said that Diablo is about Sanctuary's denizens protecting their world. This would knock out both demons and angels, since their worlds are the Burning Hells and the High Heavens (respectively), in my opinion. This has also been repeated by most of us for years: "Diablo is about humans protecting their world- Sanctuary."
There's always the possibility that the statement wouldn't knock out other races of Sanctuary, like said Goatmen, but I'm banking on it not happening. I can't see a valid argument for it yet. They've done humans in Diablo I, Diablo II, and LoD, and despite a larger team behind the newest game, they have been careful with most of the lore (to my knowledge) and have only appended to most of it instead of changing its roots.
I also believe that a non-human character would hint far too much at the diversity of races in World of Warcraft. I don't mean this to be a stab at the game, because in the context of that game I believe it works (especially because it's an MMORPG), but because the context of Diablo is entirely different it would most likely upset old-time fans and would crack a lot of lore.
Don't think anyone has mentioned that half demon half angel is essentially a human capable of life giving mercy and unspeakable acts of cruelty, could go to heaven or possibly hell. Funny thing is, think about it, have you seen a non-human character on Diablo 1 or 2 ? Other than a monster, its not like we have many options to choose from. Maybe they could do an alien, but uh this isn't Starcraft, they could bring back Blood Raven..... but we've seen her like before in two games already.
Half demon or half angel is trickier, either its a Democrat or a Republican, half angel then Tyrael's going to have some "esplainin to do" or half demon, shouldn't the other heros vanquish it on sight ?
Someone shoot me in the face please. Anytime I hear this idea I want to die.
I cannot possibly refuse such a request when you said please and all.
Just wait right here. I'll get my bazooka.
Anyway back on topic...seeing the 'general' trend...ok ok it's no trend or anything... All characters in diablo series up til now have been human.
So I guess the new class will almost inevitably be human too.
Though I would personally really like to see something of a half-angel/half demon..
Something a bit like that maybe...the angel aspect is somewhat concealed though...
[spoil][/spoil]
Yes most of the characters have been human, but there is one 500 lb gorilla in the room that nobody has mentioned yet, gives us one non-human class then two pretty soon Diablo will be looking for "One ring to rule them all" and that's the last thing we want. You want to see more races in Diablo? go south of the border and get the good stuff, then put on some 3D glasses (the new ones).
You add the non-humans and then you have to start talking about why this guy is half blue, this guy has elf ears, this guy is gray it goes from being Diablo to "Real World": Sanctuary Edition all about who's screwing whom. Ex. Lord of the Rings, they waste good killing time, with Aragon trying to get close to Liv Tyler and those ears of hers. Keep it simple. If they really want to reach all audiences they need to make it so that female character models are loosely/conservatively based on Pamela Anderson but we don't need even more back story on how/who.
There is a subtle familiarity with the all classes being human, its not Lord of The Rings, its not X-men, its not Jersey Shore, its Sanctuary and all non-humans are the enemy and I can live with that.

Don't mean to be rude....But exactly what the hell are you talking about here??

Huh? I think I need a translator here. Aragorn, Liv Tyler and Pamela anderson have joined the gorilla?

X-men now?
wow.
I think the OP wanted to know why the 5th character couldn't be half angel/half demon. Am sure he doesn't confuse this character with gorillas..aragorn, pamela and the x-men.
Who knows? Maybe Tyrael got it going with a succubus...and here you go...
Short translation: how did this guy get here, why is he that color, back story back story back story. The X-men was a joke, it has many different colors of mutants, an extreme example (which you obviously missed). The 500 lb gorilla in the room entry was referring to a commercial/common saying well known to about 90% of Americans..... and no, I never said anything about Aragon and Liv Tyler somehow joining the gorilla so I don't know where you got that from but now I think you will understand it all.
Also the Lord of the Rings thing, the only thing you didn't ask about... I mention because between the hobbits, elves etc. they go into a long 10-15 minute explanation of each race, showing you pictures of where they come from etc. sometimes its good to just dive in and watch/play some action who cares about an element of a game/movie that exists solely so that you ask why it is there but the character is essentially the same as all the others. I don't care why the paladin is there, I didn't read his life story, or the life story his people and I never will and I don't need to see pictures of his home town/church etc. things you might want to put in if paladin or other character is non-human.

Dude...we are talking of angels...demons...humans.
They are all fighting.
They did a story to make all of that possible, didn't they?
You think they will actually have trouble cooking up a story for a guy who could have some angel/demon blood in him?
Improbable I admit but not impossible.
X-men, gorillas(am 0% American), Pamela and the rest were pretty much unnecessary to make your point.

Aren't you contradicting yourself there? I thought you wanted to have back stories?
I don't know which part of the movie gave a 10-15 min explanation of each race(there are dwarves, men, elves, hobbits). I only saw the intro for the rings of power and the one ring. But even that was essential to the main story.
The story was told in an excellent fashion and without which the action would have been mindless and pointless. Trust me...you took about the worst possible example to make your point here.
And each character in D2 had a different back story. I know this comes as shock.
And you don't care about pal's story? Then you can just skip the back story for any non-human likewise. It shouldn't be a problem. Just click away.
Also, I'd like to add that humans in Diablo are already half-angel and half-demon. Some people need to read up on lore a bit

In any case when i was talking of angel/demon blood, I was thinking of a creature that wouldn't be human.
Maybe 3/4 demon, 1/4 angel or the opposite...
One of the parents had dominant genes lol.
I know...I know...very unlikely. Well so much for the speculation.
Man, news on D3 is really long to come. When was the last significant update already?
