I love the simplicity that D2 has with moving the character around. Just align your courser and click. So easy my 5 year old could do it.
After playing Hit man 2 on the PC and Guild wars, I realized how much more I like the fact that the movement is more keyboard controlled. To me, it almost seems more "realistic" in a sense? Or maybe that is me. After seeing some footage of the Barb move around in some trailers for the upcoming highly anticipated release of D3, it almost looked as if this is the direction that Blizzard is going regarding movement.
Sorry if this has been covered already. What are all your thoughts and what not about this?

I don't get what you are saying. Do you want the movement to be controlled by mouse or keyboard.
Either way, the character control is lead by point-and-click of the mouse. They have said that the game will be completely playable with just the mouse. This is not to say, however, that they wont add an option of using the "A,W,S,D" control movement for player who wan it. That might cause some problems with the new "1-4" skill hot keys.
Edit: ^ Beat me to it.

How would that cause problems with the hot keys? Right now 1-4 is for your belt, right? I think that being able to play the game with just the mouse can be nice, I think that having keyboard movement would put a little bit more of a challenge to the game. IDK. I like being able to change the camera angle and view with the mouse. I personally like the movement to be keyboard controlled. But I guess that's just me.
I missed that article where they said that about the mouse. Sorry.

You can't move the camera around either, a slight zoom but that is it. They restricted this to help improve the graphics without strain on your comp. If you cant move the camera then the world around you doesn't have to exist. Just what you can see on your screen.

I think it would be too hard to use WASD with a static camera. Trying to move diagonally down a hallway using WASD seems annoying. Like Don said, point and click is part of what Diablo is anyway and it shouldn't be changed.
Wow. I must be the only one who finds ease in the WASD keys for movement.
I use them with other games that I play, so its not that I don't like using them, actually I prefer it over click to move, but with Diablo it should be click to move.

People are complaining about enough changes as it is. "This is so far from the essence of what Diablo is.... Blah blah blah." In my opinion this would only cause more people to gripe because it's a shift away from the way the previous games were played. Also, it's something they don't need to change since we've been moving around with the mouse for so many years w/out any problems. I don't think it adds anything to the play experience. I know they won't change the movement and I'm glad.
Junction3 hit the nail on the head with diagonal movement.

moving camera with mouse bring many bugssssss, like camera behind a wall... etc.
The walls disappear or fade when your character is behind them. I thought this was evident in the reveal gameplay trailer.

so yes, diablo=hack n slash/click like a madman
other games=wasd
an interesting mix would be dragon age origins (just started playing last night at 2 in the morn :P). it uses wasd AND/OR mouse. its terrible imo. instead of being an "OR" it needs to be an "AND". in dragon age, if u use wasd, it is like HON or any other wasd game and when u use the mouse, its like any other diablo game. when you use them together, it equals all badness and sucks.
what i think would be nice would be something like savage 2 with a tweek. in savage 2, you use both wasd and mouse. both are necissary. the mouse only is used to orient yourself. move body x degrees right/left/up/down. you dont actually move, just rotate. wasd are used to move. w and s are foward/back. a/d strafe right left. if diablo went with something like this for diablo 3, it could be fun. inorder to keep the birds eye angle, a tweek needs to be made. instead of being in the third person and the mouse rotating your camera/character, the mouse would only rotate your char. you move it one way and press w and your char moves in a straight line to mouse. if u press s, you go opposite of mouse. and, to keep it from only going in lines, like in diablo series, you can use a/d to put angles into routes or just strafe.
and like always, u click to hit an ennemy
there are advantages to wasd and also to that of clicking. wasd allows better reaction and movability ie dodging (play savage 2 and ull know what i mean. sorry for it being only example, only game ive really used wasd). by incoperating dodging and stuffs, more dynamics can be added or at least refined. kiting would work better thus allowing better ai for minions. i dont wanna talk to much about this, add if you want, im tired
mouse= diablo and fun. (dont forget carpal tunnel lol) so ya, im tired and drawing blanks, dont flame me, just wanted to give my 2 cents. add to this plz or something. interesting post op
1. no pots
2. u will be surprised how quickly you learn to use skills 1-5. i keep going back to savage 2, but it is my only real example. I am able to use all the necissary "in battle" skills easily while the buffs or wards i need to remove my hand from wasd. Also, i know this wont apply to many, especially on a laptop, but i have a mouse with 2 buttons on the side which can be programed to w/e. in my case, i only use one for a heal.
on the contrary, i can see how it can become cumbersome at times. while it wont be as quick as just leaving your fingers on the keys them selves, it may affect your performance. so, the more i think about it, the less i think it will work in diablo. i wish it was in there, becuase wasd lets me get into the battle mentally easier, but w/e.
skill 1-q one of the easiest to hit thus more comon skill
2-e same as q
3-f same as q
4-r still very easy to hit
5-1 oddly a little akward so maybe a heal or a buf?
6-2 pretty ez
7-3 again pretty ez
8-4 slowing down a big
9-5 farthest and probably the harderst.
10 to w/e- mouse hotkeys thus dependent on hardware. would be very easy to use.
9+ skills with 7-8 easily accesible. hot bad
i keep going back n forth cuz it IS possible, it just might not be pretty.
If we were using the WASD keys, then the mouse targetting would take up the other hand, leaving no hand free to quickly key up hotkeys, or potions.
Not really. Mouse wheel for your skills, I keep my main ones close nit to just quickly go up 1 or down 1 to get the skill I need at the time. The belt would stay the same, 1-4, and being right there by the WASD it's still just as easy to hit. Right click to still use the skill. So how could you not find that easy?

You use the mouse in Guild wars for the same things, click on who to attack, pick up items, where to cast spells, but you still use the WASD for movement.
The F-keys are great for skills, but if you use mainly 2 primary, mouse wheel works just as well.

woah, i never ever said to NOT use mouse. what i said was use MOUSE AND KEYBOARD. combination. i can see how pple want diablo to stay to the ol click it all and i understand. im jsut throwing out ideas.
I'm not saying to not use the mouse either. But to limit the use of the mouse. A different aspect on the game that would make the game play a little bit more challenging and intense.

couldnt have said it any better. thanks.
there are ways of getting around things, dont need to put up roadblocks based on emotional bias. diablo wouldnt be diablo without the mouse. no debating that. also, i just like the f- keys is putting up roadblocks. im sure your preference can change if d3 makes it dif.
im not attacking pple, i just want other views to be seen.

You need mouse anyway to choose who attack, which item, where cast skills, SO why not keeping mouse for movement too ?
I really hate that, I prefer F1 to f8
