Just to indulge this a little more. I'd say his Way of the Hundred fists is a lot more like 64 strikes of devination.
Sure seven sided strike has the symbol on the ground and stuff but its only 7 strikes. I like to think way of the 100 fists actually hits all the chakra pinpoints.
Anyway as others have said, not a huge deal. I'd start to worry if they gave the monk magic eyes that could see hidden monsters chakra or something.
Yeah, it's not enough to keep me from playing the game(or monk for that matter) yet. However if they start adding weird stuff like the mentioned above I will definately not be playing the monk, despite it being the best sounding class to me so far(although, this will likely change whenever they announce the final class, depending on exactly what it is of course).
Just wanted to post something amusing I noticed lol.
2 of the 5 skills revealed by blizzard for the monk class were undoubtedly 100% ripped off from the anime Naruto. Specifically one of the anime's characters called Neji
Its not THAT big of a deal, since games are notorious for stealing ideas and skills from each other all the time. The new dragon age game has so many skills straight out of World of warcraft and often have the same name
But nevertheless, I just thought it would be an interesting thread for the diablo fan
One of the monks skills is called "Impenetrable defense", and its a taken from Neji's "Absolute defense" the Kaiten. Here is the monk using impenetrable defense. Notice the defensive wall of blue mana around him that blocks attacks from any direction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XwgW1xZXUs
Then Look at Neji using "Absolute defense" Kaiten. Notice the exact same blue sphere which also blocks attacks from any direction. In the anime they call mana "chakra". Of-course the anime came out years before the Monk was released http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rnih1YLeec
And the more obvious example comes in the monks other skill, the "seven sided strike" Notice the rapid attack movement, and the big giveaway being the pattern or design on the floor that occurs when the monk uses the skill. A big round circle pattern on the ground that appears when he uses the seven sided strike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZmMvfELkO0
It's taken from Neji using his "64 strikes of devination" technique where he hits the opponent very rapidly at 64 points on their body. Notice before he uses the skill, a giant circular pattern appears beneath him just like the monks skill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUh75maxRio
You should look into a small game called Dungeons and Dragons and take a peak at a few moves the Monk class has there.
Some people post like this would be a huge problem if true, but it really shouldn't. The devs are humans and are thus influenced by all sorts of sources.
P.S. Naruto didn't invent Chakra either, and ki/chi systems have a similar concept in meridian points. (Which are increasingly confused today.)
I also want to point out that I have seen every single one of the Monks moves before I read my first naruto book. They are not unique to Naruto ^^ They are common fantasy martial arts moves. So they either took inspiration from somewhere, or (what I think) they just came up with them without any particular inspiration.
So what monk move creates a yin-yang on the ground that protects via a sphere which takes 0 concentration/focus to keep up let alone allows the user to move freely and do 'other' moves ?
What monk move teleports like lol'omnislash from Advent Children ?
And I mean by 'monk move' as something seen or read that was not conducted by someone of the 'arts' but a monk by name.
I don't understand what you mean with the "yin-yang on the ground that protects via a sphere". I haven't seen it I think :/ (for the monk)
Watch the monk gameplay, he lays down a protection sphere that reflects projectiles while freely moving in it.
I'd love to know what book you've read that a 'monk' not a 'martial artist' has a body explosion technique.
Again it looks like a lot of people have confused monk with 'martial arts'. A monk is not a well rounded artist like a ninja with various schools of ninjutsu, but rather very dedicated to one particular type of movement(s) or school.
I don't understand how the monk goes from omnikick, to circle of lol, to explosion. More like a tactical assassin IMHO.
It's pretty simple. This isn't an ordinary monk, it is Diablo's Monk. Same reason we are getting a female monk is the same reason our monk can teleport and use all forms of martial arts, ect. They could of called it a martial artist and been more correct but people are gonna cling to the name Monk cause it is a pretty common name and it is associated with good that defeats evil.

Call it a War Priest then. That is pretty vague. Monk however.. not really.
Dude, these threads are really getting..annoying. "OMG, they stole the idea of the Barbarian holding an axe from old movies about Barbarians!". Yeah I know what you're talking about is specific, but with the amount of shit that's out nowadays, it's hardly easy to do something that's completely and utterly unique.

the later editions are all physical based attacks no chi. Circle kick, etc etc etc
A) Some Diablo devs are naruto fans
They took inspiration/ideas from naruto

No. The monk can't move while using Impenetrable Defense. You may have seen him moving in a slow time bubble from a wizard party member?
Call it a War Priest then. That is pretty vague. Monk however.. not really.
I do think he shouldn't be just swinging his stuff around all the time. Maybe hitting every projectile individually would look better.
Rise and rise again, until lambs become lions
If Naruto was the inspiration behind the design of the skills, then so much the better.
