I feel we have probably gotten just about as much information as they are going to release before actually telling us their new system for skills.
As of now we have: Official Blizzard Quote:
Diablo: The skill system revision is in full force. Trees begone! I think it might be a winner. Jay says hi.

We're implementing and will be testing a new system that changes how skills are acquired. That's all I'll say.

Diablo: #DailyDiablo With our tweet Friday about the skill trees being removed/changed, what approach do you think we might be taking?

@Diablo my guess is a Dungeon Siege take on things, the more you use a certain weapon/skill, the better you get at.

Diablo: @topheroly That seems to be a popular guess. Official Blizzard Quote:
we've decided to remove the tree-type architecture and we are moving into a purely skill-based system. This new system is still in the development stages and if it does not work, we still have plenty of options to fall back on. Right now, we're just trying different things and getting a feel for the few ideas in regards to the skill system that we have going on right now. It differs from the World of Warcraft/Diablo II type hierarchical styles and is more of a skill pool/path than a tree per se.
I know there are two other threads on this topic but I thought we could officiate this thread for people's guesses rather than for debate (like the other two threads) on the system. Please feel free to post your guess on what the new skill system entails. If someone else has already posted your idea, post it again. The point of this contest is to see which users correctly guessed the new skill system. Please refrain from REASONING, EXPLAINING or DEBATING your or other people's guesses.
This thread is merely to post your official guess on what the skill system will be.
I will update this front page with other people's guesses.
My Guess:
I think that they will still be sticking to something very similar to the tree idea. I think that they got rid of the three different types and lumped them into one giant page. Then they got rid of any pre-requisites for any higher level skill, thus eliminating the roots/tree style. I think that the skills will still be obtained through level and that their will be different tiers for the higher level skills.
example -
there will be five tier 1 skills that you can choose to put a point into, at level 6 you unlock tier 2 which has 5 skills into it. level 11 unlocks tier 3 and so on. Each level you gain gives you one point to put into any skill of your choice as long as that tier has been unlocked.

Don_guillotine - Skill Pool System
Toot - Maplestory
Murderface - Tier Combination

I was thinking about a skill combination system where you could have the chance to combine two skills every five levels or so. You could combine two tier one skills to make a tier 2 skill and you could combine two tier two skills to make a tier 3 skill. For example: you combine mighty hammer and whirlwind so the barbarian would whirlwind with the mighty hammer. Then you combine furious charge with ground stomp to give you a stomping charge attack that knocks enemies out of your path. then you combine those two skills to create a skill where you do a stomping whirling giant hammer charge. I understand this system might a take a long time to create and balance but it would probably be worth the wait.

I think it will be too complex, very too much possibilities, it won't happen, sorry.
Please do not use this thread to discuss other people's choices. This thread is only for people's ideas on what the new skill system is. "Contest entries only"
