As soon as diablo is installed (dreading the day...) what will you do first?
Would you go to single or multiplayer?
Will you place emphasis on grabbing a heap of characters to have the names you want before they're stolen?
Normal or hardcore?
Ladder or non-ladder?
Will your join or create your first game?
Of course we might have different varieties for the character options in D3, but lets just go with what D2 had. I know I for one will start with hardcore even though I'm not a hardcore lover. I just want the feel of being in fear of the unknown, and what's more unknown than not even knowing how the mechanics of the game work? Definitely multiplayer for me, and non-ladder as I'm expecting more players in there. And I'll be joining a game to quickly take a peek at the mad freaks and wonder how the fuck they can reach level 20+ when I waited outside the store the night of release and got home asap to start playing...
Well I'll play offline, probably start a barb first but end up playing with each class through the first few quests before I finish the game with any of them. I probably wont be playing multiplayer anytime soon and I'm not really a fan of hardcore play.

Whats the difference between online or offline? You can always password your games and play by yourself. And after a while continue with the character online with other people.
SP always feels like it has a "limited" gameplay. When you kill the last boss it is always like.. Soo.. What now? There isnt a whole lot of things you can do in SP.
Therefor, i'm planning to start right away in MP. Which is in my opinion the true purpose of an RPG(most of them), and especially in the Diablo series.
-Next, ill reserve some names.
-Enter a game, play solo for a bit.
-Quickly get my friends to join the same game and hack demons together

i'll go SP with the wiz or the fifth class (maybe it's better) then... don't know... maybe just smash my laptop in the wall after the siegebraker kills me... lol

Well this is something that's been discussed many times, especailly when the lan stuff was a hot topic, but I'll summarize my reasons for my preference. Online requires being connected to the internet and means if battlenet goes down you can't play(hopefully not a problem with 2.0 but when D2 launched downtime on battlenet wasn't uncommon). My internet connection is fast but a bit sporadic, so lag may be an occasional problem online. Also, the computer I use for games/movies/etc. is one I keep offline. That may change eventually when I retire my older computer.
Multiplayer somewhat ruins Diablo for me unless it's consistently playing with the same small group. I guess it just kills the value of items and the sense of a single hero against the hordes of hell.
I guess from my experience, playing online always took more away from D2 then it added. As a result, I enjoy Diablo most as a single player(occasionally multiplayer lan) PvE game.

But defeating the boss feels more meaningful in single player, at least for me. Also, doing boss runs and getting better equipment is still a lot of fun in single player assuming you can stash items you've chose to collect on a mule or shared stash. I used ATMA in D2 for that purpose and expect something similar to be made for D3 if it isn't included in the game already.
I never really got that into pvp with Diablo, so multiplayer didn't really add anything for me aside from LAN or otherwise playing with someone you know.
Ill start with a barb (or the 5th class) and play on B.net alone and finish the first difficulty. Then ill start playing with people and friends, and make my barb a high lvl... pwn noobs and start / join a good clan.
My brother and I will create two characters. Mine will be a Barb. We will play on Battle.net, hardcore, and ladder assuming there is a ladder and non-ladder at that point.

I will grab the game, unwrap it, and put it in my computer. Then I will watch as it gets to 95% and then freeze because my cd rom drive sux. Then I will restart my computer and try again. After the third time trying it will finally install correctly. I will definitely start on SP. I agree with stoaster, multi player always kind of took away some aspect of the game for me. I will only play MP if my two brothers get the game and we can all play together. I will probably start off with the WD. I will play that character til level 10 or so and then try another. I will keep doing this until I find the class I like the best. Then I will start a new character of that class and finally begin actually playing.

Playing all characters single player first. Then begin MP with my 2 bros.
Since it will be a party of 4, maybe i'll teach my pet snake to learn play.
*googling 'guide teach snake diablo'*
I will wait outside for the midnight release.
Go home, make multiple characters for names.
Join a game with a couple of my friends who will also be at the release with me.
Play with them for 24 hours. rinse and repeat
I'll probably start on SP, but only until my mates confirm they have it, then we're taking it down together.

Also read Wintendo, as DINGBANG is attempting to play through 764 SNES games in a back catalog.
I haven't decided whether or not I want to play through it by myself for a bit, but either way I'll make it on multiplayer, and if I wanna play solo, I'll password it. But I likely will play with others so we can discuss the amazement we feel with each other while playing.
For class, it will probably be battlemaster barb first, but depends on last class.
OK, thinking about experiencing it for the first time has gotten me all depressed, I'm gonna think about something else for a while...

D3 will use a system where only you can pick up your own loot. So no more whoever clicks fastest gets it all. No word on whether or not you will still be able to see other people's loot but not grab it, like make it see-through or something.
I personally hope they do that. I still want to see what others get, especially if I'm looking for something particular and see someone else get it. That way I can be like "I see you found (insert badass item name here) and I have been after it for some time. What's it worth to you?" Especially if gold is actually used as currency. That way it's not like in D2 where if you didn't have the exact item they where looking for, or had just traded away your last hr for something, there was no chance of you getting said item*.
*I know about fg and sites like d2jsp, I just never used it that much. I would rather actual gold be used instead of forum gold, and hope there is an in-game way to accomplish what d2jsp did.
Kinda got a little off-topic there lol. But yeah. No shared loot

Who would start right away with a hardocre char doesn't even knowing the game yet?
Me, for one.
I want that feeling of not knowing. I've never been, but think about a soldier in war. They'd be shitting themselves since they're on hardcore and don't know the place either. I want that same shitting feeling
I'll be starting in SP, maybe even Hardcore. Doubt I'll move out of SP, maybe if there are some dfans people I could consistently play with and battle.net is not stupid.
First I will book 2 weeks off work when I know the release date. Next I will stock up on stacks and meals that can be made quickly. Then I will get a wizard, cry when I realise someone already took my name, and go multiplayer online ladder with a party that wants to go through doing as many quests as possible.
Can't do single player, I like the social aspect much better. Always nice to see other people shouting 'omgwtfbbqsauce' along with you at the huge monster that just appeared and pwned poor timmy.
Ohhh yeah !!! same as me, I will take 2 weeks off and don't sleep until I reach the end !!! lol I'm kidding, but me too I want do the most I can, and I better like the coop (multiplayer)
