Diii.net: Are we going to see returning set or unique items from Diablo 1 or Diablo 2?
Jay Wilson: *pause* Uh? probably. The game?s itemization is done fairly late in development. The itemization in general is done fairly late in development. So at that point we?ll be building unique items and looking all over the world for ideas and I?m sure we?ll look at the previous games.
The twitter message is about them making 3d models for the weapons. It is not itemization per se; just making the models. Assigning the stats for those items is done late in development, which sounds logical. What they're doing now is making item models, which would sound logical to be made along with other 3d graphics.
Nice find, but I wouldn't say that they're ahead of their schedule of probably releasing in 2011.
True. Items are supposedly on the last pages of the list that needs to have models (right?). Which falls in my opinion on the same page as itemization. But then in the early stages of itemization, stats and so on can be done later in this stage. (hopefully this makes any sence... )

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t...
I guess it depends on how big the team is and what everybody is assigned to. I am sure that the artists took care of much more important things like the classes and monsters and environments before moving onto the items. So perhaps (fingers crossed) they are closer to finishing. I am still planning on a 2011 release date but who is to say it can't be January, 2011.

I dont mind them spending lots of extra time working on those items. It's a huge part of what makes the game so much fun. I agree with Don_guillotine on what he had to say about it.

Unfortunately, you are probably right when you say this. I was a bit hopeful there when first reading this post.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
The Twitter message doesn't even say if they are doing the 3D models yet. It just says "artists" which could mean the items are still in concept stage in terms of design. They may be pushing out a lot of designs, but it's no way an indication of how far their development process is.

Does this mean that they're already 'fairly late in development'? Maybe we will see this game sooner then we've all anticipated....
And equally good job putting it together like that, I probably wouldn't have figured that out lol.

I'm pretty sure its just "concept art" for now, just cool looking items with no set attributes yet.
Nowhere close to it.
