I don't have a widescreen monitor, but just wondering how diablo 3 will look on widescreen, since I've seen images of games like Warcraft 3 being stretched on widescreens. Tnx.
I actually just bought a widescreen monitor a month or so ago, and yes, it does seem a little stretched :/.
Not TOO stretched, but it's still noticeable.
Surely to god there are mods out there that can tweak the screen resolution beyond the defaults, however. I remember Jamoose posting one up a while back that actually doubled the screen resolution, it was pretty fucking cool.

You might want to select a WIDSCREEN resolution if you're going to game on a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio screen. That way, it doesn't look stretched.
These days I actually ask myself "will the game support REGULAR SCREEN"?
Yes, some pathetic games like Mirror's Edge or Assassin's Creed ported to PC think they can just get away with giving us big black bars, and have no options for a normal resolution.
They should just be nice nd throw in every standar resolution. 480p to 1600p because 480p is losing touch with people as it is literally th ebase for everything and 1600p is the max. It would as they want cater to a wide very wide range of consumers, those who are high end hardcore gamers and those who are low end who really can afford the 30" monitor or the 22" so i think that would be their best option.
Bottom line: Diablo 3 already supports widescreen resolutions. The 20 minute gameplay video was widescreen. As SFJake pointed out, most games that are released now are formatted for widescreen displays, since 4x3 consumer monitors are virtually no longer in production.
Let's get some things straight though: If you've got a widescreen monitor, and the picture looks stretched, that's because it IS stretched - you're displaying a 4x3 signal on a 16x9 or other aspect ratio display. Diablo 2 was meant for only one aspect ratio, and is inevitably stretched on a widescreen monitor, regardless of your display's native resolution. And if a game you play does support a higher resolution and widescreen format, and it looks stretched, you need to check your system display settings. My roommates have widescreen displays but use a 4x3 aspect - it drives me nuts!!!
(Also just of note to previous posters, be careful when using 'p' as a suffix on a resolution - that stands for 'progressive' as opposed to 'interlaced' and applies in the world of the video, not in computer displays.)
Ent1ty, to clear things up (I know this has nothing to do with Diablo 3, but while we're on the subject), the HD standard is a TV standard. Computer displays and graphics cards are largely independent of those standards, although they are capable of displaying the same resolutions. The use of 'p' only denotes the type of frame interpolation, which does not apply to computer graphics. Just a note.
The good thing is that the way games are made now, the textures and models are designed in higher resolution than needed and can be scaled accordingly. In the case of Diablo 2, the textures were designed for those resolutions, so to display them otherwise would not look good.
But for Diablo 3, I think we can expect flexibility. Of course I don't have a quote to confirm that, but that's pretty much the case with any game you buy now.
I know it means progressive i just thoguht that all computer monitors were progressive therefore i could use 1080p and such. Thank you though for clearing that up. I wonder if they will support all resolutions. Like the 2048 by 1152. Obviously 1080 720 and 1200 will be there just because those are such common resolutions it would be stupidity to not put them in. Most Tv's are 1080p and most 24" monitors are 1920x1080. the lower end models liek 23-15 usually have the 720 resolution. And the higher 30" monitors have those crazy 2500x1600 resolution, so with that i don't see how they couldn't offer those . I really hope they support the 2048x1152 so i can play on my native resolution. Should look very nice on a Dell 23" its either that or a 500 dollar 24" with 1200. I mean that's even the screen they use in their setups at the blizzard office now. If you look through tour photos you can clearly see the Dell 2408WFP sitting at every desk. it can be found here they also have a more expensive 600 dollar one that 1 ups this with 1.07 billion colors instead of the standard 16.7 million and can be found here here

Anyway, in the case the game can't be played widescreen I shall run it in window (on my widescreen pc).
If it fails at windowed I just ignore the game cause I hate blurryness caused by running something not in my native resolution.
you can often add it to the shortcut target to launch in a specific resolution. Can't say I play too many retro games anymore though. Too many good games coming out all the time to go backa nd replay all the stuff I've already exhausted.
Nvidia cards (in the control panel) allows you to play in a proper resolution in full screen without playing in a window... At least, thats what I heard. I do have the card but I'm using a normal screen, so I never tried.

Wait, what? Where? I could count in one hand how many good games have been released since 2005.
I noticed that the demo area in Blizzcon 2009 used widescreen monitors. Looks like the game will play in widescreen. I'm finding that more and more LCD monitors are being sold by default in widescreen. Makes sence to me that a default resolution for the game would be in widescreen.

I've actually been looking for that thread as well, been wanting to try that out since now I actually have a decent computer.

I wouldn't worry about widescreen support in D3.
I was just on dell looking at some smalle 20-23" monitors and i saw in the sidebar for liek options and stuf this section of 2 monitors that had a resolution of 2048x1152 http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=us&category_id=4009&cs=19&l=en&nf=177~0~174492,4723~0~2108566&s=dhs&~ck=anav&navla=4723~0~2108566 thts the page and you can bet im getting one of these cause thats pretty good higher than Hd and yet not too much money either like Dell's amazing 24 inch thats 550 bucks.

Diablo 3 will definitely support wide screen.
