So if the Barbarian of D3 is the same guy who beat the Prime Evils in D2, how can Blizzard or anyone explain that the D3 barb is lvl 1 and struggling to kill fallens?
Gandalf wasn't slain by the balrog, read the books again and/or watch the movie as both will explain what happened after he fell into the chasm with the balrog.
I couldn't stop laughing when I read that.
Uhh, did YOU read the books? Gandalf didn't die when he fell into Khaza-Dum. He fought and followed the Balrog up a winding staircase to the top of the mountain and they pretty much killed each other there. He died and the "god" of the LOTR fiction sent him back because his task wasn't complete, hence why he becomes Gandalf the White and no longer the Grey. He was reborn as The White Wizard.
Gandalf is a member of the Istari, which are angelic representations in the LOTR fiction. They are Immortal (cannot die of old age or natural causes) but they can be killed. This is directly from Tolkien himself in an essay he wrote about his character Gandalf: "Yet it is said that in the ending of the task for which he came he suffered greatly, and was slain, and being sent back from death and was clothed then in white, and became a radiant flame (yet veiled still save in great need)"
Also "While in this form, although immortal, their physical bodies could be destroyed by violence—thus Gandalf truly died in the fight with the Balrog, and it was beyond the power of the Valar to resurrect him; Eru Il?vatar himself intervened to send Gandalf back."
Attempt at Logical Reasoning:
He hasn't been fighting for what 20yrs or something. Probably forgot all that crap he learned in D2. Gotta remaster those skills...and new ones...It makes sense. If i stopped doing something for 20yrs I'd suck at it if i started doing it again.
Other legitimate answer:

what if you play the female barb, does that mean in the 20 years between games he turned into a woman?
Haha! This made me laugh.

The worldstone got destroyed remember? Maybe it made all human beings lose their power?
Or...
the barbarian used an editor to cheat and the world of sanctuary punished him by resetting him to level 1.
Actually the Worldstone, when it existed, made humans lose their Nethelem (forget spelling) powers. Read the Sin War trilogy books and it explains all that good stuff.
Answer: Because Blizzard somehow figured out that if everyone was able to finish the game in 10 mins because the Barbarian was still lvl 99 and had his enigma, the game would blow. Who cares if it doesn't make sense?
I laughed when I saw how many pages this thread has. Of all the questions to ask, lore or mechanic related, this is probably one of the silliest I've seen.

Lol - sometimes even the silliest of threads will spawn good conversations.

Give, expecting nothing thereof. ------------ BoD - Come have some fun! Folks will always come and go, so enjoy them while they're meant to be in your life.
I'm just boggled that people could continue to debate this. I mean, you might as well start asking how a single person is able to carry 10 suits of armor and 12 swords in a backpack.

No doubt - that is by use of Magic!

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
Supposedly Brawndo has what Hamsters crave... o.0
Where's Seth? jk lol
I'm going to assume he went into isolation after witnessing the destruction of the Worldstone and essentially locked away all the memories until the day it all came back to him. Now he's making up for lost time. Re-honing his skills and getting back up to par to kick some demon @$$!

Care to argue with the author himself?

Congrats!
[spoil]Enigma sucks sweaty, hairy balls![/spoil]
All his gear probably poofed from ruststorm
Unless he has been honing his skills for 20 years(which he hasn't) he's clearly not going to be the best of fighters.
Not to mention he's 20 years older, and the demons have changed.
Demons came back BIGGER and BADDER.
I still stand my original post although everyone is right about it just being a game.
