And I guess your right. It was simply an introduction trailer not necessarily a part of a story. They tell us whats kinda going on, they give us a bunch of beautiful scenery, and they give us demons flowing out of Hell, Tyrael throwing the sword (though I would have liked it to be white and of light as in the ending D2 Cinematic) and Diablo roaring. I still love it.
lol i think you meant *Drool*
I believe that Blizzard will out-do themselves in making D3.
In every way I am confident that they will make a fantastic game, and cinematic.
Agreed? otherwise why would Blizzard allow such hype for D3 and make it suck?
They wouldn't....When have they ever?

the cinematics are always awesome from blizzard.....heard once in an interview that it takes them 1 year to complete 5 minutes of cinematics.......they are just top notch.....wish they would make a full featured animation movie....
all i can say is that i hope blizzard is giving us their scraps so that we are starving for the full ride. and truthfully, blizzard doesnt miss in that regard. it's the anticipation that makes it so worth it
ooh. blizzard! you make me make sexual inuendos...
I dont understand how anyone can think that the few trailers we have seen are cinematics at all...
They are simply displays of ingame graphics rendered at a different view to show some basic gameplay.
The only cinematic we have seen thus far is the initial trailer from WWI, and to say that that is a bad cinematic is amaaaaazing to me. That is such a cool cinematic and all it is is a compilation of really short pieces of already completed cinematics.
So in short, the trailers that everyone keeps complaining about are up to par with D2 cinematics, as far as graphics go and not as far as polish. If that is the case, we can expect D3 to have some of the best cinematics seen so far in most any franchise.
D3 is going to outshine D2 is every aspect, the only thing that wont be outshined is the amount of modification and bugging problems in D2, there wont be nearly as many in D3, sorry hackboys.
They're both "cliche-rich", they're frickin' video games. The trailer for Diablo II didn't even make sense. The soulstone was the size of two grapefruits, was left behind by the Wanderer (even though it shows up in his forehead in Diablo II), the voice doesn't match his in Diablo II, nor does the face at all, and the location he's in in the trailer is never explained.
I have to agree with you now. The D2 one had a more evil and mysterious feel. The D3 is more like "WAR WAR WAAAAAAR!!!!! (and a chick)".
I don't count the second because it is just clips from the ingame cinematics.
The Diablo III cinematic was a compilation of cinematics, showing that hell was gonna invade Sanctuary.
Naturally if an unwelcomed force is invading your land, there's gonna be a war.
The Diablo II pre-release cinematic was about...
Well nothing relevant to Diablo IIs current story, except the traveling east part.
Personally I liked both release videos. The D2 one doesn't make a lot of sense when compared to D2 but as mentioned, those kinds of changes are to be somewhat expected. The D3 one has some really great aspects to it as well. The only thing I didn't like about the D3 cinematic trailer was the monologue. It just seemed a little too slow and vague to me.
As for the character intro videos done with the regular game graphics, I actually enjoyed them. They seemed to introduce the characters well enough and give a nice look at their personalities. I never really considered them as being part of the actual game, just little promotional videos. I assumed that the ciematics between acts will be the same quality visually as the cinematic trailer.
Of course, who knows what we can expect, D2's cinematics always struck me as being amazing, especially for its times.
edit- I think the D3 trailer had plenty of an evil/creepy feel to it, particularly when looking at the bare landscapes.
Haha, how dare I avoid being repetitive in my description! Bad stoaster, bad!
To clarify, I am curious about the mysterious new character and the mystery of what specific things may have happened since D2 since the monologue didn't really cut it for me in terms of explaining the past 20 years of lore.
I envy you. And this is not sarcasm here. Where you found it mysterious, I found it boring. I really, really want to like what I've seen so far - I really want it to be on par with Diablo II.
That said, I don't hate the Diablo III preview, in fact, I wouldn't even say that I dislike it. It's just that it's all too cookie-cutter for me - floating around somewhere amidst the sea of mediocrity. I think Blizzard can do a lot better, and I'm hoping that come release day, they will have.
I can understand your complaint. If it were another game I wouldn't have found it interesting(although the same could be said of the D2 trailer). Both trailers were only interesting to because they were part of the Diablo series. If it weren't for the lore and setting I know they're a part of, they would both be very mediocre trailers for me.
We all must realize one thing: Diablo III is NOT Diablo II! The trailers are different because those are not the same games, and they have different stories!
As simple as it is, that's actually a very good point. The time from Diablo 1 to Diablo 2 was following an isolated catastrophe, prior to effecting the world. It only makes sense that the trailer for D2 would be more focused and personal. At the end of D2 everything kinda hit the fan so it makes sense the trailer would be more impersonal as it looks at how the whole world has headed/is heading for decline.
Well they haven't shown any cinematics yet except the reveal video. Everythign else is made using in game assets for teh videos. These are fillers until they show real cinematics or the game is released.
yea im thinking they havent shown the real cinematics yet even the game trailer doesnt seem like it would be one used in game im sure they'll be better

Every aspect, in my opinion.

A little. D2's trailer was mysterious since it made me wonder where the wanderer is going/what will happen to him.
The D3 trailer makes me rather curious who this chick is and what has happened in Sanctuary since D2.

Close your case on the grounds that I find them both somewhat mysterious?
I'm glad I could help.
