Dicho Card... very interesting. Do you have insight as to various CPUs as well? While I could probably wait to upgrade, my current computer has several issues that just cause headaches, so it's likely that I'll go ahead and get a new system sometime before Feb (depends on the holiday sales, etc... and since I'm now a student again for a semester, I can get a discount on Dell and a few other vendors).
CPU? Sure, what do you want to know that you can't google?
Whenever a friend asks about buying a new computer, I always ask the same questions:
1. How much $$ do you want to spend?
a. Unlimited?
Buy a Mac. Buy an Alienware w/3 year warranty.
b. I'm a cheap bastard.
Build it yourself. Buy a vanilla Dell, add the 3 year warranty,
add the RAM and Video card yourself.
2. What do you want this compy to do?
a. Read email and surf the web?
Buy a cheap dell, get the warranty
b. Video editing, play 3d games, start my career as a 3d animator.
Haha. Go with the Quad Core, 8GB RAM, and the 64bit OS.
3. What kind of video card should I buy?
Blanket answer: Find the latest video card (ATI or Nvidia). Step it down 2 versions and buy it from a REPUTIBLE maker.
For example. I like MSI. I like Nvidia. The best card I can get is the N295GTX for 500 bones. Too much. Next one down is the N285GTX for 350. Too much. Next one down is the N275GTX for 225. Juuuuust right. EZ as pie. Don't worry about specs and stuff. They are thown in to confuse people. Never buy anything off of stats, manufactures know this. And you can run bootcamp for your Windows-only games. Bang for your buck.
Besides, Blizzard also caters to Mac users, and I applaud them for this smart business model.
I have pretty similar! I have 4GB Ram, and my Nvidia (not sure what model) features 1GB! Processor is AMD Athlon 2.7 GHz!
I recently played Prototype on low video settings, and I still had trouble with fps, especially when it comes to a great amount of enemies!
Really? It doesn't look that demanding. I was hoping there would be a demo so I could check it out, but alas, no demo.
Please find out what video card you have, because "Can You run it?" has my computer WAAAAY past the requirements for Prototype. My computer is about 3/4 of the way to the "FAST" line. I mean all my stats are below yours and I play Crysis with most settings on high and a few on medium. What settings do you have to use on Crysis?
The announcement I wanted most out of Blizzcon was a release date... but that was perhaps overly optimistic of me.
The announcement I wanted second most was the system requirements. I've been dying to replace my crappy ASUS computer (never again until you start winning blue ribbon awards for system support) for two years now.
Think how good it would be for the economy if even 20% of the people who are waiting for D3 bought a new computer... doesn't Blizzard want to help out the economy? Surely now that there are four characters, and lots of acts, quests, and a virtual ton of different visual effects, the designers know what will work best (optimal if not minimal).
Sigh.
Thanks for the monk announcement... please don't limit his weapons too much. The club, but not mace business for the druid was, politely, undesireable.
Surely you would understand that drivers are subject to change and the code for Diablo III is still being optimized?

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Sorry to tell you this, but that card is pretty much pointless with 1 GB.
It's speed is not high enough to make full use of that 1 GB.
A 512MB one is somewhat just as good. xD
(I have a nVidea Geforce 9600 GT of 512mb, there also was a 1GB model. I asked the shop owner if I should buy the 1Gb one instead, but it said that the card was to slow to fill it and your card is pretty much the same but slower. :P)
EDIT: By the time D3 gets released I'm hoping I have my hands on a 22inch screen with the latest graphic card. (Need a job, need a job. Need 3600 euro. xD
partially true... 1gb on this card won't see much use unless you are going with very high resolution and heavy textures...
but going that far, the bottleneck will probably be other. like the gpu speed.
but depends on the game, and the price.
For general reasons, i agree with the shop owner.
but if you read some reviews, you might see that some games can take advantage from that (but not much, won't worth it).
but that science is not so simple...
i really think anyone with a dual core, 2gb ram and a gef 6600 or higher, will be able to run d3 ok... that's what i think by looking at the screenshots.
textures are not that intesive, geometry also not. On scII they dropped the need to 3.0 shaders (so even a 5900 maybe can run it), playing safe, the lowest and oldest full fledged nvidia gpu with 3.0 shaders is the 6600 series.
(the others lower than 6600 are just cripled chips)...
and they even had some of those with 256mb (with i think, considering the lcd's today resolution, won't do any good having only 128mb)
i can play left 4 dead on my a x2 3800 , 3gb ram and 6800 GS... and looks way better than d3.
if you can turn off high particles effects, then it will run on very old machines smoothly.
(but you maybe won't see that much gore)
To dicho card. Ok im 14 going on 15 and when im 16 im gettng a tricked out comp. yeah i know it might be upgradable but next christmas i really want a kickass comp. So i was liek alright tigerdirect greatsource for my needs. I got this so far.
My video card is NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT! Hope that clears things a bit!
Ahhh, that makes a lot more sense.
I've got a 9600GSO, which is nearly identical to a 8800GT or 9800GT (same card), but the GSO can actually overclock to faster speeds than those as long as you have proper cooling.

I'm not the most experienced, but I should be able to help you make a more educated decision. Couple questions for you though.
First, what are you planning to use all that crazy stuff for? Are you installing that in a NASA space shuttle?
Second, why Tiger Direct? Newegg has quite a bit better deals, and a better reputation.
Answer those two for me, and then I'll get started on critiquing your choices (which are good, but a bit overpriced for what you're getting).
Honestly, you can pay about $800 and have a SMOKIN' computer that will obliterate all games in existance for the next 5 years. Also, if you're still two years away from purchasing, all of this information will probably be obsolete, with far better and far cheaper parts replacing everything on your list.
Get an intel q6600, any midrange mobo (as long as it's a good brand such as Abit, MSI, Gigabyte, etc), 4 gb of ddr3, a Western Digital Velociraptor 150gb (10,000 rpm), a 4870x2 or whatever your vid. card of choice is, a minimum 600-700 watt psu (wattage doesn't matter much, it's all about how it's distributed among the rails inside the psu) throw it all into an Antec Nine Hundred II case (screw all the other cases, trust me on this) and you have yourself a great yet cheap gaming rig.
Of course, you should wait till 2011.. everything is going to be different then.

that's just overkill right there. Unless you are a overclock fanatic, the price on top of a top black edition phenom isn't worth that much.
you could go with a 955 instead of a 965 amd.
40 bucks less, and you still have all the good stuff from 965 (that isn't on 940)
also, ATi is about to realease series 5k video cards, right after win 7...
so, wait just a bit!
... do not overclock if you don't even know what you are doing, i mean really, if you never heard about CAS Latency, then, just stay away from going "omg overclocking"
also, if you do not intend of going crossfire SOON, don't even bother about buying a crossfire board.
just pick on up with a crossfire enabled chipset and you stick that x2 into it.
i think lot of stuff there is just overkill. unless you have a 30 inch LCD monitor with a very high res.
you could buy a cheaper but still good mobo for 60 bucks less.. a cheaper processor , 40 bucks less...
wait for new video cards... the prices would drop all over.
the only thing that i say: get the good one, really: a PSU.
having a good psu (not talking about power, talking about eff. and how stable it deals with the currents) is really a must.
but if you are going to build that to d3... unless you wanna play crysis tomorrow... stay cool and wait.
nowadays i'm really into "making the best with the lowest power consumption and size possible"
if i can i allways go with mini-ATX boards and cases, smaller videocards, smaller psu...
my only wish right now is to have a netbook that can play scII ok
(which i will buy, both, when avalible)
no more big messy hot power sucker desktop towers with me, don't want to play crysis.
To laio and archie i really do wanna overclock for max speeds and im gunna be hooking this baby up to a 42 inch monitor maybe even 47 and im getting it next year so i can run SC2 and crysis and all those good games maybe wow GW(and expansions) and maybe some CS some FC2. All the goodies so i'm demanding in the Hd space because i also have over 5k songs and if i get a 5k game card im gunna do Xfire so i can OD on this one. I'm looking for something i can take with me for four years while being out of date will run anythign you ask it to. So my demands are high. As to overkill i should say not for a GAMING PC. If i wanted overkill id get 1TB in SSDs 4x250GB SSD's run in Raid 0 and id get 2 4870x2's and id but a core i7 so i could get their best processor and id get ia mobo with tripple channel then id buy the kiningston $Gb Ram sticks and stick 6 in and have it run 24GB of Ram. So i think im not overkilling it on a gaming PC as this will probably only run crysis at 40fps. but other games will run perfect and yes i do really play crysis and my shitty mac on lowsettings barely runs it so im definitley trying to do an all out upgrade,.
EDIT: To my overclocking statement i should be mroe specific. I'm nto trying to get 8GHZ out of it on Liquid nitrogen. I might get a liquid cooler to go to 5 but im fine on air going to 4

Wow, you clearly haven't done your research on Crysis or other "high system req" games. Crysis isn't really that demanding when I can run my "average" PC with a 9600GSO video card on high settings and still get 40-50 fps. If you do what you first posted, you are seriously overkilling everything. Part of the reason Crysis is also so demanding, is due to some sloppy coding, not because it has the "end-all" of pc graphics.
Trust me. Far Cry 2 is no different in requirements than Crysis either, except for processor reqs, and only because it has sloppier coding than Crysis:D. SCII and DIII should be cake on my pc. If they aren't, all I'll need to do is upgrade to a slightly better video card, because they aren't going to be anywhere as demanding as Crysis, and Blizzard has some of the best coding in existance.
And as for screens; just so you know, resolutions don't keep growing as you keep getting larger sized screens. If you're in the 42" range, the max res you'll get is about 1366x768 and on a 47", the max is about 1920 x 1080 with most still at 1366x768. So you won't have any better viewing, because all your desktop icons will be the size of you hand (exaggeration). Stick with no more than a 30" monitor, not a tv.
I completely agree with Terror and Laio. PSU is the most important part of the pc, because with a cheap one, it'll die and fry everything you just spent your money on.
As for processors, 3.0Ghz is honestly the most anybody needs right now. I mean above that point, its moving faster than you can click, let alone think, and you're just gonna have it to essentially confirm that you have a smaller manhood :P. You obviously don't know enough about overclocking when you're talking about 5Ghz overclock. WHAT NEEDS 5Ghz?!?! Nothing for at least 10 years!!
And yes, the Antec Nine Hundred II is the "end-all" of cases. Sucker runs sooooo frickin cool. And like I said before, cut your budget in half, and you will still have a wicked pc that destroys everything for years. Plus you'll have some money to spend on a car, which is quite convenient at 16.
Your graphics cards are okay, but you still picked an overpriced unit.
Trust me. Far Cry 2 is no different in requirements than Crysis either, except for processor reqs, and only because it has sloppier coding than Crysis.
I'm not sure but FC2 can use 4 cores and Crysis is strictly 1 core. Crysis uses a lot of graphics card though.
But I guess Crysis is better optimized since its not a shitty console port like FC2.
EDIT: I deleted what i originally posted and i hate you archie but you were right. I just made a prpetty top notch comp for 1000 on newegg. Instead of the overkill 4870x2 i got a visiontek 4890. And i got the 955 and a cheaper board that still has crossfire incase i ven need to get another 4890 for some killer preformance on a game in 4 years or something. I also got the antec 900 2 it looks relle nice and reviews are good. 500GB HDD still no damn SSDs i might be able to get them for cheap through my uncle hes a tech guy. So if i get SSD's this will be a extremely good computer. I didnt get a bl ray drive though just because i don't really watch movies but i guess it would always be good to have. so it might add 100 to that price of 1000. Other than that i actually got a kick ass rig right here on neww egg that will most likely get update for next year. And if i save my money from this year or some of it being im getting a new guitar rig for cheap aswell, and i take the rest of my next years money i could dish out and get a nice 30 inch hp or dell or something and put m res at 2500x1600 which would pretty much be insanely killer. but then again a 42 inch with 1080p is not overkill a 30 inch with 1600p is overkill. oh and 8GB of DDR3 Dual Channel Ram at 1333MHz
EDIT #2: to archie you said the res doesnt grow but the native res does most 42's are native 1080p and thats fine cause 1080p is true hd although 30 inch monitors have 1600p thats overkill and i don't need that i just want a nice 600-900 dollar 42 inch or 47 inch to stick on my desktop play Xbox 360 watch TV and play on my computer...thats why i need a tv it's better.

Well I'm glad we were able to help you make some good decisions. We'll be looking forward to you putting up some of your music when the time comes. Oh, and I think you'll be very pleased with the shipping times from Newegg as well.
As for the TV, you're right, that makes sense for you. I thought it was going to be a strictly pc screen. I didn't know it would be for tv, and 360 as well. In that case, yeah a 42" would be ideal. When looking to buy a tv, check out Costco, they have some really incredible deals on the best tv's.
yeah i was in costco and they have a 240hz lcd vizio thats 47 inchs for 900 bucks i was like wtf and it looked great too. Oh and my dad is being an idiot and said a 42 or 47 is too big for my room so im gunna get a sharp aquos led tv for 779 and its 32 inches

Just something...
TVs res. is quite different from Pc Monitor res.
dedicated Pc Monitors have way higher resolution. think about DPI.
nowadays, FULL HD 1080p tvs, do 1920x1080 lines.
a nice 26 inch lcd screen goes with 16:10 aspec ratio goes 1920x1200...
a very cool 30 inch lcd screen goes up to 2560?1600 that's way higher than any full hd tv. Doesn't matter if the tv goes to 60 inches, it won't go further than 1920x1080 anytime soon. So stay with that in mind.
Also, as the DPI decreases if the screen size goes up, it may not look very cool.
also, with up to 32 inches LCD TV, you hardly get anything more than 720p , which is 1280x 720.
so unless you buy a big apple cinema display, or those wonderfull dell 30 inches monitors, you don't need anything too overkill to run it max.
so expect a price drop on 4890, or you could go with a 5850 if you want.
it is probably cooler and sucks less energy.
i keep my thinking that, if you don't intend to buy a cross fire rig NOW, do not bother with that.
maybe, in one year, it will be better to just buy a new gen that does more than double what you already do, than look for an old card that maybe, doesn't even sells anymore, and it's not half the price of the new one.
also. keep in mind that putting 2 cards in cross fire, doesn't allways yields double the performance, usually it's just a 60% increase.
Actually the 32 inch aquos im lookign at is a non true LED but LED nonethe less for 779 and its 1080p 32 inches. And i realize pc monitors have higher res but i dont wanna spend 1k for a 30 inch. I just dont have it. I might and if i do you can definitley see me playing on the Dell 30 inch at res of 2500x1600p but i dont know if ill be able to reach that goal of 1k.
EDIT:As to crossfire still its a full 60% thats mor than half of what the first can do. Thats still perfectly good for me.and i will be buying a 5870 x2 for next year =]

so what i said, with a tv on a 1080p, an ati 4890 will do JUST FINE, you will have some spare room right there.
and what i said about crossfire i keep. you don't need a crossfire motherboard to put a x2.
but you need a crossfire motherboard to put two x2, (or two 4890)
i think x2 cards have a greater value, than buying two cards.
and that extra pcie x16 slot cost at least 40 bucks more on your motherboard. i don't think it is worth it.
that is just what i'm trying to say. you will be perfectly fine with only one pcie x16 slot. don't need a crossfire motherboard with 2, 3 or 4 pcie slots.
think about that. you shave off 40 bucks here, then 40 there, then 20 bucks more...
that won't have a huge impact on the performance of the pc, but will get an overall greater bang for buck. that's the whole science of making a gaming pc. Just spending 5k on an alienware is not why we do so many researches and reading about hardware and software benchmarking. we are all trying to get the best out of our money.
I get that but i eventually will plan on going crossfire because if i get a 5870x2 lets say that thins not goin anywhere for 4 years. and if i got a 965 black edition and 8gigs of ram this whole comp isnt going anywhere for four years. then think by that time games will be more demanding on a cpu so i could just get another 5870x2 and run that baby in crossfireX quad GPU and ill be able to play those games at max settings. It would be optimal to get a crossfire mobo just for that reason. I plan on going into the computer buisness software programming to be exact and id liek to keep my computer running long and strong without having to toally revamp it. an extra 200 or even 100 versus buying a new mobo cpu ram SSD and then another 500 dollar card?
And anyway i still have to wait a year =[ but at least ill be getting it. And y that time price drops...

Of course, you should wait till 2011.. everything is going to be different then.

Stay awhile, and listen.
that's just overkill right there.
GO TO NEWEGG, PERIOD.
I'm not sure but FC2 can use 4 cores and Crysis is strictly 1 core. Crysis uses a lot of graphics card though.
But I guess Crysis is better optimized since its not a shitty console port like FC2.

Also, as the DPI decreases if the screen size goes up, it may not look very cool.
also, with up to 32 inches LCD TV, you hardly get anything more than 720p , which is 1280x 720.
so unless you buy a big apple cinema display, or those wonderfull dell 30 inches monitors, you don't need anything too overkill to run it max.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution <- some reading.
i would say a nice 4890 will run fine any FULL HD TV or any monitor up to 26-28 inches.
but like i said:
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1532355/radeon-58xx-pricing-leaked
so expect a price drop on 4890, or you could go with a 5850 if you want.
it is probably cooler and sucks less energy.
i keep my thinking that, if you don't intend to buy a cross fire rig NOW, do not bother with that.
maybe, in one year, it will be better to just buy a new gen that does more than double what you already do, than look for an old card that maybe, doesn't even sells anymore, and it's not half the price of the new one.
also. keep in mind that putting 2 cards in cross fire, doesn't allways yields double the performance, usually it's just a 60% increase.
And anyway i still have to wait a year =[ but at least ill be getting it. And y that time price drops...
