Can't say I believe or rather, that I want to believe this. I'm making this topic so that some people actually see it. liquid posted it in the news forum, but part of the old topic a lot of people don't care about anymore.
I never saw this site before, but then again I never followed SC2 or looked for any places like that. I have no idea if its in any way reliable.
If this happens to be true, Blizzard is nothing more but a money sucking joke like EA. And if its not true, I'd apologize and Blizzard is the best. But this got me worried like hell.
Disclaimer: The linked site quotes Jay Wilson on what kind of costs could come with BattleNet 2.0. The quote was made in October 2008.
Anyone who has attended the 2009 BlizzCon BattleNet panel however will have noticed that the only costs so far mentioned are the ones that come with purchasing extra content such as maps for SCII. Furthermore, Blizzard has not planned to implement standard fees for games as of yet, nor have they announced they will offer anything that may give one person an advantage over another in terms of gameplay.
The reasoning for wows monthly subscription was for constant in game support, patches always released including changes in content and items, even new areas to explore or raids.
This makes no sense for it to occur for d3 or starcraft. One of the greatest things about diablo was free battlenet, and now appears to be gone.
It seems all blizzards money has gone to their heads and now they just want every penny they can get any way possible.
A petition needs to be started for d3 and being against monthly subscriptions. Leave that to wow and let others enjoy the games without having to pay monthly.
Edit: God i hope those sources you posted are right emilemil1. I know its blizzard linked, but looking at the date of those posts, and that the one from starcraft2 is today, I hope blizzard didn't change it.
Yeah, I highly doubt this is true. If it isn't in an interview by a source that they'll actually reveal, then I won't believe it.
Seems way too spur-of-the-moment. No official source (such as incgamers or G4tv). Until a highly reputable source conducts an interview with Jay Wilson or Michael Morhaime and the words come out of their mouths, I'm not buying anything "starcraftwire" says.
Blizzard already makes enough money by far from WoW. If Blizzard charges us $5 for Battle.net 2.0, they're going to loose 75% of their fanbase anyway.

It's 3am. rain. thunder, lightning. silence. silence. thunder. wind, howling wind. pricks of sound the rain makes. slowly. as it trickles down your roof. behold the solemn nature. behold the beauty of the storm.
Thats comforting. Good to see its an old quote. If they want to charge for special avatars, or other optional crap on battlenet, have at it. just leave monthly subscriptions out of it and let us play our game in peace.
No way will ythere be a subscription fee if im not mistake WoW makes round 150 million dollars a year thats enough to pay every blizzard employee at least half a mil each. There is no way they will need sc2 and D3 ot be extra cshcows they have it and its wow and blizzzard said no fees that means no fees

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
How much will Battle.net cost?
The new Battle.net will be offered free of charge for players who purchase and register the full version of StarCraft II.

I don't care who you are, Blizzard or otherwise, these kind of things should never be changed like that. Yes, it was confirmed last year, but in a year things can change. However, if they would say that at Blizzcon and so rapidly change their mind... thats just unacceptable.
But with all this, I guess I'm convinced that this is just a hoax. Its still leaving me with an annoying little "doubt" that it could be true, or turn out true. You all know what I mean here.
Trust me, I know how it all works and how you shouldn't believe this words. But there are things that turn out true. I guess the only problem in my head, is that its absolutely the worse thing they could do to SC2/D3. Its my biggest nightmare. No matter what, I have some fear that it could turn out true.
I also didn't say it "was" the truth, but that it got me scarred.
Of course, as long as blues says otherwise, officially bnet 2 is free.

Uhh, blizzard makes 165 million dollars a month, not a year. If you consider that 95% of that is pure profit(which it is), that still leaves 8,250,000 for paying their employees and paying for servers.

considering that they have to have the hardware and software to handle 12 million accounts, 165mill isn't 95% profit
they also spend a lot on marketing/advertising/etc
and then you have SWE and CS people who work in a competitive market and need lots of money for cars and homes (oh and they live in failafornia and prob have to pay 200% more than they have to for those things)
people assume wow sub money goes into a giant treasure chest that can get used for w/e they want...
^ they have a cinematic team, a movie, a mmo team, another mmo team, sc2 team, d3 team, promo teams, etc etc
that is where profit goes to
business make money or they ask for government bailouts
get it?
I use to be like you guys and hope that I didn't have to pay for things, but if it keeps whiners out of the game... I'm inclined to want to pay per month
What annoys me aren't the doomsayers being paranoid about ActiBlizz possibly charging for Battle.net. It's the blue-eyed retardedly naive people that are convinced that Battle.net will always be free and that there'll never be any costs associated with it.
Even if Blizzard doesn't charge for basic Battle.net, which I am personally relatively sure they won't, you can rest assured that there'll ultimately be some kind of "gold account" that gives you additional benefits of one kind or another, basicly forcing you to pay if you want a service equal to everyone else.
It depends what "service" you are talking about.
Its seriously not my concern if they decide to add so much pointless crap I never wanted. The old Bnet was enough for many of us, despite its flaws, it was free.
It -totally- depends on what they want to charge us for. I heard some stuff related to twitter and facebook or something... that kind of "crap" I don't care about. I don't care about all these systems to talk to everyone no matter which Blizzard games they are. Etc, etc. They can charge us for these for all I care.
Games have given the basic hosting and playing service for FREE for over a decade. But if they prevent me to -fully- enjoy the game I bought because they put some stupid limits on it, that would just be unacceptable.
I use to be like you guys and hope that I didn't have to pay for things, but if it keeps whiners out of the game... I'm inclined to want to pay per month
Because WoW certainly has no whiners.

Give me a few to look up the source, but I read somewhere that they only spend sub 5 million on their servers. As for them spending a bunch of money on marketing and advertising, that's a lot less than you think considering mountain dew/ect probably pays THEM to put the wow logo on their drinks.
