I always try to pay attention to what games people are interested in, and what startles me more than anything is how many more hits Diablo 3 is getting than Cataclysm.
My first hint came during Blizzcon. At the keynote speech Diablo 3's Monk class and World of Warcraft's Cataclysm expansion were both announced within minutes of each other. A couple hours later I looked up the most popular videos on youtube and the Monk trailer and gameplay videos were at the top of the list. The Cataclysm trailer was at the bottom of the page, about 20th in popularity. Not that 20th is a bad place to be on the mother-of-all-video-streaming-sites, but for Diablo 3 to beat it out by that much astonishes me.
Today I happened to be browsing the popular games list on Gamespot.com and I noticed something interesting. Diablo 3 has snatched the #1 spot today, Starcraft 2 is in 6th, and Cataclysm isn't even on the top 10 list?! Have there been any big Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2 announcements lately? No... So why isn't everyone as interested in Cataclysm?
Personally I'm excited for all 3 games, I just think this is an odd discovery.
People over there tend to show their excitements on official board or World of Warcraft board, not on the sub forums.
Of course, I think this expansion is just going to suck. So maybe thats some other people's opinion. WotLK gave me some interest in coming back and heck, I did. But Cataclysm just sounds like they are trying to fix things they should've fixed 2 years ago.

The gamespot list is arranged by how many people visit the game's page on their site, not how many people post on the forums. In other words, more people are typing "Diablo 3" into gamespot's search bar than "Cataclysm"

I see. Well, I always type World of Warcraft there for any WoW related forum, not the name of the expansion. Maybe most people do that?
It's probably because the new WoW game is just an expansion. Diablo III is pretty shocking considering a Diablo game hasn't been released since the 90's. If Blizzard were introducing Diablo III and World Of Warcraft (not an expansion of WoW, but the real thing), then I gaurantee you more clicks would be on the new exciting MMO.
I honestly think that diablo got a big boost in publicity from blizzcon. im sure quite a few WOW fans were impressed with the artwork and videos for diablo 3 and wanna know what its all about.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]I find your lack of faithdisturbing.
Well I noticed that during BlizzCon our D3 forums jumped up to like 70-80 viewers, if not more, versus our normal rate. I noticed something like that last year too.

I wish WoW would just die already.
have you read what some people say about diablo?
you don't want all those wowkids coming here...
then the rainbows would be permanent!
oh and gamespot/ign/gaming websites that rate things (other than metacritic) shouldn't be your meter of popularity
those sites are filled with consolekiddies, I mean look, sims 3 and mafia 2 are on the most popular list...

And like Absolut said, he nailed the argument. Expansion (3rd one, already?) versus Game (3rd one, alright!).

more scrubs talking about things they "think" they did
if you were any decent at wow you would have seen that exps were needed more often than they were released
also wowexps are full games in comparison to other exps
hell, wowexps are more than full games in comparison to other full games
they need to implement a test that measures whether or not you know what you are talking about on forums before you can post
Got pretty defensive there, haha.
Communism much?

So there needs to be some sort of assessment to test one's knowledge of World of Warcraft on a Diablo 3 forum. Interesting.
Its good to see Diablo 3 is getting a lot of attention.

I think you should be the first person to take that test.
