You must not remember Diablo II very well. The maximum amount of players in a game was 8. Of course, everyone could have one NPC mercenary, and there are NPCs in towns, so it might look like 25-50 people, but yeah, the number was 8. And so far, the only thing we know for sure is there will be 4 players in Diablo III, though some suspect that will be increased. Gamestop's '1-6' is likely just a wild guess.

As cool as it is having pre-orders up, it doesn't make sense to do it.
Think about it.. you want to be one of the first 100 in line at your local game shop to buy this, run home, install while giggling like a giddy schoolgirl, and be one of the first to register good/cool names to your account.
By the time you get a copy shipped to your door all the good (or even decent) names will be taken.

also, why would people buy from retail stores when they can buy from the blizzard store and have it instantly?

We don't know any specifics of launch day yet.. the advantage of a retail copy is that game stores have midnight launches for games this big (think Burning Crusade launch). You could be home and ready to play with a full copy by 1-2am.
If Blizzard offers a download at the exact same time as the midnight launches in game stores, then it might be a worthy alternative. Even then we don't know if the d/l speeds will be any good considering how many people will be hammering the servers.
Personally.. it's Diablo III. Downloading this game just doesn't feel right - I may even go as far as to get a Collector's Edition just to have all that good stuff in my hands while it installs.

It's clearly not like WoW since WoW is an MMO while Diablo is just an rpg with multiplayer feature, beside most sites that have pre order that early are just guessing, i saw few times, when a site had pre-orders when even release dates weren't specified, but the site had release date, i would wait if i were you

But does anyone know why it said 1-6 player's?
I remember playing Diablo 2 YEARS BACK and seeing like 25-50 people in one city? Am I wrong? Why did they lower the amount of people!!!!!
So it's not like World of WarCraft where you walk around and can see as many people as you want?
Thanks!

you can buy CE editions online
BUT HOWEVER WILL I SURVIVE WITHOUT XXBARBARIANLADYXX or SHADOWASSASSIN or WWBARBARIANSZ???
seriously, be unique, who cares if someone takes some corny name that a 12 year old could come up with>?
I also, will buy a collectors edition if they include a d3 artwork book with it.
