given that it is already nearly september, if it was gonna be released this year, the hype machine would be in full flow.
the final class would have been announced and they would have told us about all the new stuff in the game
1) They said long ago that Battle.net 2 will be released with Starcraft 2 and SC2 will be the first game to launch with the new battle.net. Which directly means that SC2 will come out before Diablo 3.
2) They announced that SC2 will delay because of Battle.net 2 delays to 2010. It was originally planned to launch late 2009 probably. So we have our first hint of an actual release year for SC2 and battle.net 2. 2010 first half probably. This means that Diablo 3 cannot come out before 2010 second half most likely.
3) Looking what they announced in Bliizconn 2009 it seems that many things are undone in Diablo 3 which basically means the release date might go as far as mid 2011 or late 2011.
I personally think theres strong enough evidence with this and other things being said for at least a 2010 Q1 release, i've had several friends in the games industry quote a 2009 release also, Blizzard hasnt released a single title this year... work it out
Lol they just can't release it this year. Battle.net 2 won't be ready until 2010.
And when did blizzard release a product every year?
"It's official. You won't be playing Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty this year, as Blizzard has moved the release date of the real-time strategy game to the "first half of 2010." No, they never dated it; but they have now.
Activision Blizzard's reason for the delay of Starcraft II is reportedly tied to the relaunch of its upgraded Battle.net service, which handles multiplayer for all things Blizzard. In a statement to the Blizzard community, the developer writes "Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game."
Blizzard calls the new Battle.net an "integral part of the Starcraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward." Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said during an investor call today that the new iteration of Battle.net will likely be ready "early next year.""
So how you think they will release it this year because SC2 is soon in beta, D3 is no where near beta.. battle.net 2 isn't finished... SC2 will be released in 2010
I don't know, through tricky quoting you could get it to seem like anything you want is going to happen. I just don't see it, though.
Diablo III just doesn't seem at all done.
Things we know they're not done on:
-Still concepting female monk
-In that same article he mentions the fifth class might be a returning thing - but also says that might change. if the fifth class is still this uncertain then surely they have a lot of work to do.
-Death penalty system
-Worked out economy
etc. There's all kinds of things we can assume aren't done yet, too. Probably tons of creatures, acts beyond A2, etc, etc. There's a lot. It can't be done within the next few months. The few months before a game's release is all about last minute testing and packaging, they'd have to be essentially done with it.
But yeah, here's hoping you're right.

My typical train of thought: Everything -> Sex -> Diablo
wtf how can it be released this year? if they scramble their fucking arses off they may have the content ready by the end of the year but that leaves them no time at all to do any beta testing and balancing the game. They wont release the game with a fuckload of testing
Well, I'm not 100% convinced I heard this but I'm pretty sure that the 5 class won't be released until the next Blizzcon so at the very earliest the game won't be released until 2010. However, as many pointed out SC2 and WOW are due out in 2010 and Blizzard is not going release 3 games in one year.
I played in the WoW beta and even then you could barely play any of the content.
I also played WoW beta and can say that almost everything was available.. i think raids wasn't and maybe some 60 lvl instances.
Beta test means.. testing of a complete product to find bugs. What good is to test act1 and 2 only and leave everything else untested.. the developers can't test it all. Having 100 000 volunteers to test and report your game is pretty much time saved from final testing process.
Oh damn, I wish it was even possible to hope for Diablo3 in 2009... Damn, I even wish that SC2 would be released in 2009, but even that isn't possible.
On the part where you 'Assumed' they were talking about Diablo3, I actually saw this part of the interview, and it was obvious that they spoke about StarCraft2(Yes, Jay Wilson, lead designer of Diablo3 CAN speak of another game than his main project). They said in many interviews also, that StarCraft2 would be the first game using Battle.net 2.0(Yes, in this interview, you can 'assume' that they're saying Diablo3 would be the first game with those features, but in many, many, many other interviews, they clearly said that it would be StarCraft2 that will be released first, in 2010.
Hell, they even announced StarCraft2 one whole year before, and when they speak about SC2, everything seems clear in their mind, like the game was complete... And when they speak of Diablo, it's always things like: "We haven't yet decided, still alot of work to do on this" or "We've talked about it, but we aren't sure to implement it that way"... If those aren't signs of an unfinished game, I don't know what it is.
People still think(or hope) they're saying that Diablo3 isn't ready on purpose, only to make us think that it'll be released in many years, when it's actually ready? Seriously, if you followed SC2 and D3 news even a small bit, you can notice that SC2 is FAR more complete than Diablo3, and that the development state of Diablo3 still needs a year or two to at least begin the Beta tests.
Sorry to burst your bubble, being optimistic is great, I usually am... But seriously, 95% of the news/interviews we see, make us believe that Diablo is still at least 1-2years from release state, if it's only a conspiracy to make us think it isn't ready when it is, they planned it really f.ing well.

If you can't amaze people with your intelligence, confuse them with your bullshit.
unless they (and they have said that they are) are holding back and insane amount of information about d3....it would be like blizzard to not introduce the 5 class and let you find it out in the game....
I dont know which game is bigger....because from a developers standpoint...if i thought sc2 didnt have as much of a fanbase as d3 i would "leak", as it were, more information about sc2 to get more people interested....but again i dont know
Or on the flipside, if sc2 has a bigger fanbase, they dont want to loose it by not giving out enough information....
It's not that they're giving more information about SC2 than D3, it's that when they give information, it goes like that:
SC2 Question: "Yes, it will work like this, and will work like that, I think you'll love it!" D3 Question: "Hmm, we spoke about it, but we aren't sure yet of how we'll implement it. Give suggestions/feedback and we'll see!"
They aren't giving less or more information on a game or another, but when they give the information, you can easily 'feel' that the game is a lot more advanced than the other one.
And you're saying they're giving more info on StarCraft2 to make us think that Diablo3 is farther to the release than it actually is? Go take a look at www.blizzblues.com -> In the last 7days, there has been 9posts concerning Diablo3, and 0 on StarCraft2... If giving more infos or StarCraft2 is a way to make us think like that, they obviously aren't doing it ;).
I'm starting to think that alot of people here only read/watch news or interviews about Diablo3, and not StarCraft2. So a lot don't really have an idea on the progression of StarCraft2, and assume from the Diablo3 news that they read, that Diablo release could be before SC2...
Edit:BTW, don't get me wrong, I'd be so f.ing happy to see Diablo3 released this year, or even in 2010... But sadly, assuming that the info released isn't a huge conspiracy, it wont happen.

Hehe yeah, the 'Battle.net accounts' are implemented to WoW, but it only changes the login you use to connect to WoW, there is no feature of Battle.net 2.0 implemented in WoW yet.
StarCraft2 will be the first game using Battle.net 2.0

Just because Jay says that those features will be introduced into Diablo 3 doesn't mean that Diablo 3 will be the first game to implement them. Now if he said that these features will be seen first in Diablo 3...different story.
actually the word "INTRODUCE" means to show or present at the start or beginning of a welcome..so acutally the 2009 release is still strong in my mind!!! this means that the battlenet 2 features could begin with D3..but then again they only showed star craft 2 with the revamped battlenet in the latest videos on gametrailers and g4tv.com!!

no
sc2 is first
then d3
they did not show the d3 login screen during the bnet discussion, they showed sc2
they did not show the bnet chat screen in a d3 game, they showed it in sc2
people need to watch panels and FAQs and interviews before taking things out of context
@OP : In your first post, you totally assumed that when they said : 'This is the debut of Battle.net' they meant : 'Diablo3 is the debut of Battle.net'. But, what if they only meant: 'We are at the debut of Battle.net[...]' ........? I've read the entire interview, and the ONLY thing that makes you think that Diablo3 could be released in 2009, is that sentence that you replaced a "This" by Diablo3?
Are you simply trying to convince yourself?
They used the word 'this' to point at a period, an event. Like, He could've said : "Diablo3 takes place during the St-Patrick. If you don't know, this is a holiday." And you'd replace it by : "Diablo3 takes place during the St-Patrick. If you don't know, this[Diablo3] is a holiday", Then assume that the game will be a holiday?
Seriously, if we assume that every single word in every interview is about the game they're talking about, this[Diablo3] could be a sad day.(You see what I did there?)
Because this[Diablo3] happens every day... ?
-
Also, Jay Wilson clearly said in one of the interviews with the DirectTV animators after one of the Diablo(or Battle.net) panel : (I'm using my own words, as I can't remember the exact wording)
Interviewer : We've heard a lot of awesome features for StarCraft2 and Battle.net, can you tell us what we can expect for Diablo3 and Battle.net 2.0?
Jay Wilson : Most of the features that have been announced for StarCraft2 and Battle.net should also be present in Diablo3. However, we are actually working on the game itself, making sure that we create Quality(and Fun) content, and then we'll focus on Battle.net and think about all the features that we can bring that'll enhance the gaming experience.
-
Also, look at the attached image, it?s a part of the Blizzcon 2009 schedule.
You can clearly see the name of the Battle.net panel, which is : "StarCraft II Battle.net Discussion"
If Diablo3 was to be released before StarCraft2, wouldn?t they have called the panel "Diablo3 Battle.net Discussion" ?
If Diablo3 was to come in 2009, wouldn't they have announced the Beta incoming before the StarCraft2 one? Wouldn't they have announced any Diablo3 release quarter, like they did with StarCraft2 at the start of the year?
-
If you still think that Diablo3 can possibly be released in 2009, I don't know what else can Blizzard announce to make you think otherwise...
I guess I'll wait 'til december 31, and make a thread : "I told you so!"

Blizzard themselves said sc2-cata 2010, diablo 3 2011-beyond
WWI will probably be new d3 class and blizzcon2010 is probably the pvp and everything else as well as beta keys, then 2011 d3

Mike Morhaime just confirmed that both games are SC2 in the first half and 'Clysm in the second half.
2009 will not happen. Jebus Christ some of these D3 fans can be deluded!
