About the auto-stat feature? Was it cofirmed that its definatley going to be in the game? Theres always that chance that they might pull it out of the game so I was wondering if they said anything about it
I saw announcements concerning tetris style inventories and town portals but I think the auto-stats are here to stay. Looks to me like they've put alot of time into the auto stat idea and started getting creative with other avenues of customization
Unless I missed something major... I haven't been keeping up to date with this Blizzcon. Haven't even checked the Diablo 3 site yet

Nice thread name btw
I knew it would hook some in
And I followed all of the live chats and I heard nothing about the auto stats :/
maybe blizz will compramise and give us 1 stat point per lvl?
Naw, auto-stats seems reasonable to me. It's one less way a noob can completely wreck a character, one less thing to think about, and a sure-fire way to make sure that you're balanced while you're leveling up.

true but were not noobs forever, and if you wreck a character it gives you more stuff to do
Meh, you live you learn - I think you'd have to be real stubborn to get too frustrated if you make bad stat decisions with an early character.
In an RPG or game with RPG elements I would never expect to have the perfect stats the first time around. I know they've got to cater to a larger audience now... but, I have enough faith in humanity to believe people wouldn't be flushing this thing down the toilet if they screwed up in allocating their stats.
To me, this is one of the most key points in character customization, and will probably kill some of the replay value for me. Why would I want to play a second witch doctor if his stats are going to go the same way every time? It ruins a lot of strategies and build possibilities.
I am disappoint. Here's hoping they fix this huge problem.

You'll still want to remake your character to try new builds which are focused on skills.
Those are all good points, but personally I don't think the stats are a huge loss, because I always did the standard vitality-max with minimum strength and dex, and not much else if I remember correctly... on every character. I didn't make a new character with identical skills just to try different stats. I know some people were different though, but sorcs wielding axes etc seemed to be a minority in D2, and there seems to be a limit to how creative you could be with stats.
Pretty safe to say we are all going to be making mistakes on our first character ... whichever class type you go with. Simply because we wont know the stats of the top items and what we should be saving up to be able to use.
It'll be a journey and will take time to figure out. Im ok with base stats auto-leveling but also give us at least 1 or 2 points to put where we want. Id like at least some customization, even if it wasnt like D2.
I kinda like the idea, it's one less thing to worry about, and like silent said, most of the builds were just vit max, so there won't be a big loss on customization.

What about the people who didn't play 'most builds'? You know, the ones who were trying to have fun, rather than just be the best?
I don't know, it seems like at every turn Blizzard is catering to the people who play with few characters with specific builds rather than the people who enjoy making as many characters as possible who all differ from each other as much as possible. Meh.

You guys have some good points though. With the old system you would have to know/memorize the req. stats on all the items in the game. I think 1-2 stats along with the auto stat feature would work
Then you get abuse with people respec'ing every 5 min to accommodate for a piece of armor or a duel.
Not abuse, they are including skill respec in diablo 2 1.13. Same exact thing. you can change what kind of character you have for pvp. How would respecing to accommodate for a duel be abuse?
playing the demo at blizzcon 09 the auto stat was still enabled. Sadly. I don't like it and hope it gets pulled. Think it takes away from saving at lower levals and struggling early on to make yourself more of a badass later on

And what's the problem with letting the game assign your points if it's omniscient and knows what you need already?
You also lose a whole bunch of custimization.
And like I said, the "frustration" only happens 1 or 2 times and then you got it down for the next 2-4 years
I put frustration in quotations because its not exactly frustrating
at least it never was for me. I'd be like shit. and then delete/remake
I would never whip my mouse at the wall or anything. I save that for H/c : /
Edit: I understand the items and armor would be built around this auto-stat feature but idk.
1-2 stat points per level along with the autostat feature sounds better then either/or imo
problem solved

Haven't they already confirmed respecing in D3 though?
