Oh hey, for all you guys that want to change your color schemes, I have an idea that will work perfectly! Why don't you buy a set of transparent film of different colors! One day can you place a black, transparent film over your entire screen to make diablo 3 look darker. Another day, you can place hot pink film over your screen and get a happy, gum-drop and lollipop experience! Let me know what you guys think!
I don't really mind the color, but I think it's safe to say that within weeks after D3's release there will be a color mod. In face...I bet a color mod is the very first mod that's made for the game

D3 won't support mods, therefore I wouldn't expect them to just pop out of nowhere at every turn right away.
I thought games could be modded when they didn't support it.
I didn't say it couldn't, but when one doesn't support modding its probably much, much harder to do anything to the game, and you might be much more limited in the process. Actually, since I'm not a modder, I have no idea how people can even mod a game that doesn't support it. But I'm hoping it -is- possible in D3, I just don't expect the mods to appear quickly.
I hate to be a negative voice to all of this, but Diablo 3's artwork and color has been debated heavily within the company. Anything we say or do on this thread is most likely moot, because it has been said previously. I think all of us agree that it would be cool to have a color option.
But you can't always get what you want. That's life. You'll still buy Diablo 3, and you will still enjoy it. As you progress through the game it gets darker. Hopefully that will satisfy your black and gray needs.
... Probably already been said, but doesn't anybody remember gamma/contrast in D2 ?
With contrast, you could basically create a grey-scale for your game if you set it low enough.
So if anyone is pissed about colour, turn down the contrast and you're good.
Contrast options are standard on most games these days, dunno why they'd exclude it in D3.
edit: Heh... just above this post. Shoulda checked everything other than the first post. Oh well.
In response though, turning down Gamma usually does turn out quite shitty. Contrast however, can be tweaked ever so slightly to change the look of the game.

Seriously, that works for you? I mean... really? I never had anything but horrible results with this.
When playing full screen and I think with Glide (not sure if it works with others) I liked to put gamma quite high so the day/night and really dark places like durance of hate didn't really bother
But what I meant is that D2 had only a few options but if you try to tweak from graphics card you might get better results.

Even in D2 if you don't mind about the light radius just pop up the gamma and puff its gone.. everything is bright.
