So I was watching the game trailer for the x-millionth time and I noticed at 15:33 the WD and the barb get frozen. Earlier in the vid you see the barb freeze an enemy but freezing players? I assume this is a new mechanic replacing "frozen" in D2 where you were frozen but could still move (still very annoying in my book.) However, in the D3 vid the WD and the Barb are completely frozen and connot do anyhting. Their bar at the bottom even goes read, implying that you can't do anything. They sit there for 12secs not being able to do anything. It also appears that damage does not break this effect because the barb is being attacked and remains frozen. Now in a game where fast pace is the key, being frozen for 12 secs seems to be a long time to not get to do anyhting. Can you imagine playing and your friends are like "hey hurry up there is a ton of skeletons up here" and you have to be like "sorry frozen, 10 more secs." I personally don't like the idea. The frozen from D2 was annyoing enough, I don't need to be actually frozen for 12 secs.
What do you guys think? Should it remain or be fixed?

I don't think it will remain, or at least won't remain in that form. How I interpreted it at first was that it was something to bring in the female barb/wd, because honestly, if those two didn't enter, or if they were closer to the other two people, as they would be in a normal game, they would all be frozen and probably killed within those 12 seconds, or at least one of them would go down. It might remain in a boss fight, where you are frozen and the boss goes off to do something (start a new phase similar to the Thousand Pounder making his tattoos glow, unlock something to bring in more monsters, you get the point), or it might be a similar mechanic except with a much shorter duration for special monsters and players. I would assume powerful effects that freeze or stun monsters for a long period of time would probably be balanced the same as similar effects in WoW, where crowd controls with long durations last for a much shorter time on players so as to not ruin PvP, or are reserved for boss fights.
I think theres a chance to the frozen effect stop if you take damage or else it would be just like a stum. also i believe the duration will not be so highlike 10+ seconds.
Maybe it don't happen in the video because the barbarain are in some kind of godmode.
I think it will remain in the game, but it won't be for a 12 second duration... And if it is, damage will break it or there will be a chance to resist it/lower the duration.
I believe this because looking at the barbarian's skill tree and I think even the Wizard's skill tree you see a lot of thing that counter slowing effects and things of that nature.
I actually think that giving monsters the ability to freeze is a really cool mechanic for the game. I do agree with Jackzor, however, in that it lasted for 12 seconds in the video to exaggerate the effect of the female counterparts charging.
Although, having it last for 12 seconds when there are four versus that particular group of monsters might even be realistic. It took two of them, 12 seconds to kill that group of monsters. If all four had gone at it, then it would have been down in 6 or less. In my opinion, slaughtering 40+ monsters in 6 seconds or less is a little too fast and easy for me.
It might be that certain things like frozen time length in this game are proportional to the number of players fighting together. For instance, if there were only two fighting that particular group, then the frozen time would have been cut to 6 seconds if you were taking the relationship to be linear. This idea seems cool to me.
Scyberdragon, back to your original concern of being left behind b/c you are frozen. I don't think that should happen very often. Your frozen time would not exceed the amount of time needed to eliminate whatever you are fighting, so I don't think there should be much worry there.
That was for the trap that needed triggering to introduce the female WD and Barbarian. You may notice also that they were attacking the goatman shaman that triggered the trap and they couldn't hurt him, this was also to ensure the trap would trigger.
I don't know how the mechanic works in normal gameplay, but I see what happened in the vid as rigged to introduce the female counterparts. They may keep that frozen mechanic or they may change it, it may be the same but for less time or it may be like D2's, I don't know.

Yeah, I didn't get that part at all. No way it's going to show up in any random game. They staged it and I don't know what they were trying to say with that.
If you guys didn't know the entire gameplay demo was staged, that means nothing like that will ever happen, it's just like when the ceiling falls down on the bridge, making a gaping whole.
The duration for the freezing spell is way too long to be implented, maybe 2-3 seconds is bearable but even that is pushing the limits
Despite the fact that the game footage was staged, the mechanics still exist and can and will most likely exist. There is no reason to show something that will not exist in the game. If they have the animation for the charcter to freeze then the characters will freeze. I just hope the duration will be shortened. I liked the idea of it being determined by # of players.
