It would be disconcerting if they were topless. If you want that please look for another source.
I think they were fine in D2. The ones in D1 were very annoying with any character without a ranged attack anyways, chase hit or miss, chase hit or miss until dead, I never liked them.

I personally enjoyed the idea of running around killing topless titty monsters. Then again I was about 7 when Diablo 1 came out, and I had never really saw real boobs at that age. I look back at it and laugh, but it was kind of a novelty experience. In retrospect, it really fits the concept of the succubi quite well. The classic succubi lore is that they are out to seduce men. What would be more seductive, yet decently appropriate, than a demon chick showing up topless? Diablo 2 had this content as well, though it wasn't incorporated into a repeated character (mobs). It was specifically Andariel and Lilith who showed a little nipple action, which made sense being the commander of the succubi army and the mother of all succubi. I mean, its not like any of them ever had their down stairs showing (ever). Its a mature rated game with mature rated themes, and if parents don't want their kids seeing boobs then they wont buy their kids the game. That just means less kids to worry about.
I mean think about it. Godfather has some nipples in appropriate places (strip clubs). Age of Conan went far and beyond by allowing you to make your own character completely topless, on top topless NPCs. They all actually fit it pretty well for a mature rated game in my opinion. The Conan universe would have not been a real Conan universe without nipples (ever seen those comics?). Godfather just shot for realism. If your a mobster going to the titty bar, you expect to see titties, not chicks with clothes on or tape across their nipples.
There are a few things that scare me about western ideology. Here in America, its okay to show a child horrific murder, blood and guts splattering, and people getting ripped to bits (which is something a person should never really be forced to see). What just happens to not be okay is showing a child breasts, something they probably already saw as a child (their mom's), and will definitely see in the future. Girls are inevitably going to get them, and guys are inevitably going to look at them. If you child really wanted to use the internet to see boobs, they could always do what I did at that age and find a real porn site instead of whacking off to a video game. I thought it was pretty lame that Blizzard had to change WoW's succubus model to something more clothed (even though you could probably see more than that of a real girl by simply visiting a local beach or water park) just because of too many parental complaints. Just like I don't get why its okay to see a girl in a moderate swimsuit, but when you see a girl in moderate set of bra and panties, its absolutely unnecessary. Leave it to America, thats all I have to say about that one.
In all honesty though, wouldn't you be curious to see how boobs jiggle if Diablo 3 really will be using the Havok engine? Havok physics ftw!

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.
Basically all versions of D2 monsters that existed in D1 are worse. But the succubi are the best exemple i can think of.
Noob about D1 succubi - "wtf is up to that monster ? I can't even get close..."
Good player about D1 succubi - "Sometimes it's complicated but try to use Guardian or Tele+CL"
Noob about D2 succubi - "They allways use a curse that i don't know what it does to me but I don't care because it makes no difference".
Good player about D2 succubi - "I can only see white smoke and some bones droping"
In other words they should really look into D1 sucs not D2 thrash.
In other words they should really look into D1 sucs not D2 thrash.
Seriously. Succubi and knights were my favorite monster classes of D1. There really is NO match in D2 for the tactical challange a room full of succubi gave to a warrior in D1. Even with the relatively simple AI and giant floor tile size, it is still a pain to round them up and beat them down.
The sound and looks don't compete either. The D2 sucs really are shadows next to the D1 versions. I'd be all for bringing back the bare chested models, it just adds another layer to the feeling of being in a world enveloped by evil. Think about it, what half-mad demoness would cover herself for no reason? It also creates a feeling of "Holy shit, there is a naked demon chick with wings coming at me. This could suck!"
I never noticed the succubi in D1 were nude. I never noticed the succubi in D2 wore clothes.
Now I like boobs as much as the next guy, but I have never found myself wondering if that monster over there was topless while I was slashing off heads.
Now I don't care which way they take this, but I thought Morden made a good point, it really doesn't make sense that a child can watch a person being being mutilated, but they aren't allowed to see a naked girl? I have heard that kids imitate what they see on T.V. What would you rather have your child be doing? Murdering people and spending life in prison, or watching porn?
It always goes back to the whole kids can see violence but not nudity, hows that a good thing. For your info I am not a kid, I'm 21. I wasn't referring to any body of power or governments ideal or rating system. I speak from deep personal morals.
Some people out there may disagree, but pornography is destructive and addictive. What is more likely to happen to a person after playing a game with violence/nudity in it, murder and violence or looking at some real porn?
I can only speak for myself, but I am trying to prevent thoughts leading back to past choices and their ramifications.
I have posted my viewpoint on this topic multiple times now and this is always the outcome, most everyone downplaying nudity(or simply disregarding it as an issue) and emphasizing the harmful effects of violence. I agree that violence is no positive force either, but nudity is destructive as well.
I probably should just abstain from commenting on the topic, but my feelings are strong. I know D1 was dark and had "mature" content, but it was also made over ten years ago. D3's graphics will be clearer and more advanced, making whatever is included in the game in the same manner.
It is interesting that people construe "maturity" as being old enough or mature enough to do certain things, while in reality those things are destructive at whatever age they are done at.
I'm fairly certain my feelings will be only scorned, refuted, or ignored, but oh well, that's how it usually is; I'll just hope that I can play D3 with a clear conscience, I'll probably end up playing it and trying to ignore anything I wouldn't choose to see if I had the choice.
I would never commit an act of violence because I play a video game, and I don't believe many people would either. All the of the pointless fights I have seen take place have been because of pride. People getting offended over nothing or thinking they can do whatever they want because they're somehow better.
I do not want to create a philosophical argument, but I know what I know even if others regard it as naught.

You know jwest, while I totally disagree with you from my point of view, I respect your opinion highly. Everyone has a choice of what they view or do not view, and having to opt out of Diablo 3 over a topless monster would suck (if you really felt required to do that, and could not overlook this detail as a realistic mature rated rpg element; no offense here).
Personally, I really don't see a problem with it myself, and it probably relates to the fact that I don't find porn offensive at all, and I'm not talking about just any old porn, I am talking about dirty hardcore porn. It takes some raunchy shit to "thats just wrong". Hell, there are couples who watch porn together so they know how things work ahead of time, or because they want to find new things within porn to include in their sex lives. I find nothing wrong with that at all. Boobs on a video game (when used for realism) doesn't bother me in the slightest bit. I never once decided "Man, after a long day of killing titty monsters, I just wanna look at porn." I played these games a LONG time without once thinking about looking at porn over a few exposed nipples on a video game. I always felt that it was a fairly accurate depiction of what I would expect to see in the middle of hell. I too am a somewhat spiritual person, however I never found anything truly offensive about Diablo. The beauty of Diablo as a game is that there are MANY horrible things in hell (including revealing and tempting succubi), and your on a mission to purge that evil from Sanctuary. If I were in your position with your view point, I would personally find it an even bigger driving factor to destroy what I see as evil. It honestly comes down to the fact that we have severely different view points, and I don't think either of us would ever agree to change our viewpoints no matter what point either of us could bring up. Our every difference just proves how diverse the human race really is.
In the end, Blizzard has three options. Titties all over, titties in a few places, or no titties. If they put titties all over every succubus in hell (like Diablo 1), they probably should include some "modesty" settings from people of your belief, be it addition of clothes or a simple censor so you know what is there but are not forced to see it. The same could be said for a gore option (like in Gears of War) as well. If they put nipples in just a few places (like Diablo 2), such as on particular bosses like Andarial or Lilith, I really don't think they will be taking the extra time for such accommodations, since they will be very brief things as the boss will be dead pretty quickly. Finally, they don't even have to put titties in at all. Its really up to Blizzard, I'll play the game either way, but I sure as hell don't expect them to be changing any succubus models because too may parents are complaining about midriff. This is not WoW, its not T for Teen, its M for Mature for a reason.
In the end, I really hope we can both get what we want out of this game. I personally would be all for adjustable modesty settings so we can BOTH have what we want to see out of Diablo 3, but who knows what will happen.

I wasn't even playing Diablo 2 any more (took a 3 year break from it) when I started looking at porn. It just goes to show that you and I have very different opinions on human sexuality. Yours seem very moral and modest. I personally have a very open view of human sexuality, and don't find myself ashamed of it.

I agree video games usually would not lead to porn(there are some bad ones out there though, Mafia, gta, etc.), rated R movies are far more destructive. (I know by personal experience and will never make that mistake again).
In the end it will be the developers who decide, if there is a lot as you said, a filter setting would be cool, but if it is like it is in D2 then that would be fine as is.
I shouldn't be spending too much time worrying, I'll be in Honduras for the next 2 years and won't be playing games. I'm sure D3 will be out by then, then I'll see what they decided upon as I play through the game.

Most children see nudity long before they ever understand it. Being breast fed or seeing your mom naked as a kid happens. There is nothing wrong with nudity itself, just when used in the wrong context.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack

Well I'm going to assume that most kids weren't like me but when I was ten, I have to say, sex was a terrifying idea to me. Nudity in the context of sexuality was included in this fear. So I guess for kids like me, nudity should be avoided.
But come on, this is a mature game and I wouldn't exactly call a naked succubus pornography. Kids probably shouldn't even really be playing a mature-rated game and even if they do, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of them won't be temporarily traumatized after seeing a naked demon lady. Those who are will recover, trust me (I know I did).
I can see jwest88's point, a lot of pronography promotes misogyny and maybe over-glamorizes casual sex removing the emotional element involved in sex. But I don't think naked succubi constitute pornography although I suppose it might sort of demonize women a bit. Perhaps the inclusion of incubi in the game are in order then to help balance the scales?
Anyways, I for one am in favour of naked succubi simply because it fits the image I have of an archetypal succubus.
I played God of War and some parts in that game there was nipples galore. Practically all the women in that game were topless and/or had their nipples showing through a see-through veil. I understand it when there are naked women in Kratos' bed, and the Gorgons were basically half-woman and half-snake, you wouldn't expect one of them to cover themselves up in the heat of battle, but did we really need to see the breasts of the oracle. I also have to say "Thank God, the old oracle in Kratos' memories wasn't topless." *shudders at the thought*

Diablo 1 the succubuss was what you'd expect nekkid, deadly, overwhelming, and an enjoyable enemy.
Diablo 2 the succubuss was clothed, not too menacing, and a prudish design choice imo.
If they return I'd like them to RETURN to their former true state.
No I'm not a perv but Lilith came before Eve into the garden with Adam and we all know what happened next.
Succubi aren't dominated by art designers. Well they were in D2.
